so about that flyer...

[ there's a bit of a commotion tonight, and many locals are talking about something happening up on the island. anyone curious enough to check it out would first notice a glowing shore to match a starry sky; it seems to be a type of jellyfish causing this.

immediately afterward they would undoubtedly see a very large boat having apparently docked itself on the shore. there's no captain in sight and it appears to be completely inoperable, so it's a full-blown mystery on how it arrived on the shore. it certainly doesn't look like a normal boat though— probably due to the fact that it is utterly decked out for a party.

there are streamers, balloons, and a whole lot of glitter on deck. there's even a large banner that reads:

☆ HAVE FUN!!! ☆

on deck there are speakers blasting a nautical-style party music should dancing be your thing. nearby there's plenty of good food for the eating, along with a gratuitous amount of chapagne (with a non-alcoholic brand for the underage); a champagne tower can also be seen. party games are encouraged, and a few are even already set up (such as the large whale-themed piñata).

have fun, mingle, and enjoy the party! ]

. . . ah. That's right. You seem to come from a monarchy.

[At least, it doesn't sound like he has to deal with bickering politicians to reach a general consensus.]

Turemilia is run by the Senate where a select few are in charge. That means the majority must agree on matters before a decision is reached.

As the director, my words carry the most weight, and I ultimately have the final say.

Of course I come from a-- [But he cuts himself off to let her finish, because hey, he is trying to be courteous. He just usually fails.

He listens, still frowning as he tries to process that.]
So it's like a council. Does that really work? [Zuko looks doubtful.] I've been thinking that I wanted to take some of the power away from the Fire Lord's position, but... now's not really a good time for me to do that. [Look, he does have some trace of political acumen in there.]

Of course it works. I've been Director for years.

[Never mind that she's but in her early twenties. She raises an upturned hand as an accompanying gesture to her response. Impressive, boy.]

If you're sure about distributing that power, I would recommend doing it once you've sufficiently rebuilt the nation, as you're already aware.
flammatory: ((regret) the wrong choice)

[He's too preoccupied going over his own situation to think about her opinion. Zuko takes the state of his country very personally, and his gaze is vacant, inward-looking.]

It's not even that. Just because I don't want the war doesn't mean that the rest of the country doesn't. There's been a lot of propaganda; the irony is that if the Fire Lord didn't have absolute power, I wouldn't be able to hold the peace. So I can't even give citizens more rights, or we'd go right back to fighting.

That's part of the reason a governing body exists to begin with. Without the direction of the authorities and the law, people are bound to go wild . . . But I don't doubt that they'll come around sooner or later. Some citizens just stubbornly refuse to drop a war for one reason or another.

Is that something you've had to deal with? --Sorry, I don't mean to... pry, I just, I'm not sure I feel ready for what I'll have to deal with at home. I thought I'd have my uncle around to help, but he decided to settle in the Earth Kingdom.

[personal profile] ex_diplomacy861 2012-05-08 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a tug at the corner of her lips.]

Not exactly, but Turemilia was invaded recently. We decided on a peace treaty. [That mostly fell through, but details. It all worked out in the end. She exhales deeply and eyes the untouched food beside them.]

Taking up leadership at your age is tough. But you'll make it with the right mindset, even if it means doing it the hard way and upsetting those around you. And I doubt your uncle would cut contact with you just because he decided to settle elsewhere -- or would he?
flammatory: ((neutral) just conversation)

No-- never, he wouldn't do that, [he refutes quickly, feeling strongly about defending Iroh even though he knows she didn't mean anything by it.] Uncle's always been there for me. But it takes a long time to get letters from Ba Sing Se! It won't be the same.

He deserves his retirement more than anyone, I just... I'll miss him. It's not that I can't do things on my own.
