If anyone actually wanders up there, they will find the whole village decorated with strings of light, fish shaped lanterns, streamers, and kelp. Just past the North edge of the Village was a fair.

There was a large stage in the center of the fair, rides, a fortune teller, contests, games, a petting zoo, a fish exhibit, stalls, booths and everything else you can find at a fair.

Archery

[While wandering through the games section, you might venture near the archery set. Wow, there sure does seem to be a giant pile of shark plushes, turtle plushes, and light up starfish pillows! Resting upon them is a miniature white pony, guarded by a fierce looking bird. Upon seeing someone start to get close, she'll flare up her feathers and give a loud squawk before taking off to flap at them until they back up.]

[The reason why becomes apparent when an arrow goes whistling by, straight into the target's bullseye.]

[...What? Darkleer had gotten bored with such easy targets, so he's been steadily moving further and further away. Dural the lusus bird and robots are what he's relying on to keep people out of his line of fire. Find some other way to get around, gosh.]

"Daddy!" is called out in a high-pitched, excited voice the moment Darkleer is about to let loose another arrow. "Daddyyyy, tell Dural I can come next to you!"

It looks like a certain little kitty troll is about to get into an altercation with the lusus, seeing as one is trying to go and take her turn at the game and the other keeps shooing her back.

"Nepeta?" Darkleer lowers his bow, perking up a little. "Ah, yes- Dural! Dural, come."

The lusus obviously gives a huffy little chirp at this, but she flaps on over until her talons can grip at his arm, and she flutters her wings to help her get to his shoulder. Darkleer just waves a bit at Nepeta. "Hello dear."

Once her path is clear Nepeta comes over at a run, throwing herself at Darkleer's side and hanging on with a great big smile. The casual term of endearment has lifted her spirits like nothing else could, especially after months of trying to get him to stop calling her Miss. "Dad! Are you having fun? It looks like you should have won everything by now!"

Darkleer's always known Nepeta is an excitable girl, but he's still surprised when Nepeta comes flying at him like she does. He raises an arm so he can look down at her better, blinking in faint bemusement. "I suppose so. I haven't really been paying attention, I just thought I should keep my skills sharp."

She beams up at him, face bright and openly happy - right before she rubs her head into his side just like a kitten would. It's a good thing her horns are so short and relatively blunt.

"But look! This is the biggest pile of plushies ever, it's pawesome! ...I bet Mama would be really impressed if you showed her, you know."

"Ah..." He seems to get a bit blue in the face, looking away as he shrugs. "I suppose the thought had crossed my mind at some point. They won't stop giving me the prizes."

"That's purrobably beclaws you won't stop winning," she teases him, before finally letting go and wandering over to inspect the pile. "Oh, yes, yes, she'll like these fur sure!" she adds with a sly side-glance at Darkleer.

"I'm practicing." What? It's true. What do you mean festivals are for pure unadulterated fun? That's what he went to the hoofbeasts for. At Nepeta's not very subtle glance to him, Darkleer just hunches up his shoulders further.

"...I suppose so."

"But you practice all the time! This place is for playing!" she insists, staring at him. Unfortunately it looks like the more subtle suggestion that what her ancestor would like she'd like too has gone unnoticed. Sadness. She'd really like one of those plushies.

She can take one! Darkleer would honestly not notice. Right now he's a bit sidetracked anyway. "But... It's an archery booth." What do you expect to happen, Nepeta?

That's not the same as being given one by him as a present! She still lingers by the pile, making herself look cute and wistful.

"An archery booth at a fair! It's meant as a game, not for target practice!"

"But..." Oh, fine. He puts Archermedes away and wanders back to the pile where Svaeth and Dural are nestled quite happily. At least he finally notices something, however. "...Nepeta, did you want one?"

[Leo sees the big pile of plushies and then a troll who is clearly taking this game way too seriously.]

Dude, how many toys do you need? [He laughs and points at the comically large pile.]

[What, oh, someone is talking to him. Darkleer slowly lowers his bow.]

Ah, they keep giving them to me, I don't actually need them... I suppose I could use them for a pile..

They're already a pile, but you know, whatever floats your boat. [Leo's not entirely sure what he means by using them for a pile, but he's not going to directly ask. He figures it must be some troll thing.]

No, I mean... [Goshdarned aliens and not understanding proper moirail behavior.] I would use them for a pile for me and my moirail to use when we are getting emotionally intimate.

Moirail? I get that it's one of the four kinds of relationships, but I've only had matesprits explained to me.

[He's a little relieved that intimate was preceded by emotionally and not physically. That would be very weird. And also something he didn't want to picture.] So like a cuddle pile?

Yes, they have also been referred to that. Every troll has their preference for how it's made.

[Darkleer prefers a hunk of metal and robots himself to cuddle on, but to please Disciple, he compromises by layering it with a thick piling of stuffed things too. No one else needs to know this however.]

Moiraillegiance is the diamond and pale quadrant, the red romance which focuses on conciliatory emotions. The stereotypical image of a pair of moirails is one who protects and one who calms, but I've been told it's really more often an equally balanced sort of relationship.

[Leo nods as he listens. It makes sense and he's glad that he isn't getting a long lecture on it like his friends had from Karkat. It's much easier for him to get a grip on things when he's not struggling to pay attention to long winded speeches.]

Thanks for explaining that... uh, what's your name? I'm Leo.

[He holds his hand out for a fist bump, hoping that he gets one in return.]

[What's a fist bump? They are a mystery to Darkleer. He stares at it for a second before reaching over to enclose Leo's entire fist in his hand. A shake.]

Darkleer? Do you leer darkly? [So maybe making fun of the dude's name wasn't the best way to start things out, but it was slightly less awkward than teasing him about the fistbump turned handshake.]
