If anyone actually wanders up there, they will find the whole village decorated with strings of light, fish shaped lanterns, streamers, and kelp. Just past the North edge of the Village was a fair.

There was a large stage in the center of the fair, rides, a fortune teller, contests, games, a petting zoo, a fish exhibit, stalls, booths and everything else you can find at a fair.

Originally, I'm from Houston, Texas. The last place I lived before coming here was Camp Half-Blood in Long Island, New York.

[He doesn't want to go into where he was between those places and thankfully this week there's no truth curse to force him.]

Really? My best friend lived in Houston! Though, granted, his version of the place was about four centuries into the future and wasn't quite...well, dry. A shame, really, I've always wanted to visit and have a gander around.

Yeah. Who was your best friend? And 4 centuries into the future? That makes no sense at all.

Dirk Strider. It normally wouldn't, but they had alien tech that could hook up to the past, and that's how I met him and Roxy Lalonde, who lives in New York. Rainbow Falls, I think?

Dirk is from Houston? Wow. Never knew that. Guess that's one more thing he and I got in common.

Anyway, that sounds pretty crazy. Kinda cool, but mostly crazy. Very Back to the Future.

[Oh oh Leo knows Back to the Future, yes!!!]

You know, I didn't think of that, but it fits very well! You're one of Dirk's friends, Leo?

[Of course he does. He hasn't been living under a rock.]

Yeah, we're bros. Don't know if he feels the same, but he's definitely my best friend here.

I'm sure he does! I don't see why he wouldn't, really.

[Jake's both happy and relieved to hear that Dirk's been expanding his pool of friends. The guy needs more of them, honestly.]

If Dirk doesn't like someone, he makes it pretty clear. He likes his subtlety, but there are just some things he's really upfront and blunt about!

I never thought he didn't like me. [Leo laughs.] I'm just not sure if he sees me as best friend material. [Or you know, other things.]

I think that if you're chums now, then I don't see why you wouldn't be best friends with him in the future. Talking about math or building machines might be a good way of going about it, I think.

[Jake then rolls his eyes playfully, very amused all of a sudden.]

Though, if you've got a project to build something mechanical, then you might want to watch out. Dirk has a habit of wanting to lend his assistance and ask multiple times about it. I can't count how many times he'd offered it to me even when I made it plain that I wanted it to be a collaboration with Jade and myself.

Yeah, we've already covered those topics of conversation. I helped him come up with some improvements for Sawtooth the other week. And he wants to come check out my Archimedes spheres when I start working on them.

[encore_dueling]

Archimedes spheres? You have some?

[Attention instantly grabbed.]

I thought they were fiction!

Just one of them. The master sphere or something. But I've got the scrolls to go along with it for making the others.

[He grins because hell yes. Leo has a total geek!boner for Archimedes. Gets his gears spinning. Completely non-sexually.]

Nah. Not fiction dude. Got them in Rome just before I arrived here. Got to mess around with a whole bunch of them fighting some Eidolons before they got ruined. Only had the time to grab the master sphere and the scrolls.

That's aces! I'd offer to help out, too, but I'm already occupied with a project with Jade. Still, I'd love to see the finished product! What can the spheres do?

Feel free to drop by any time. I'm guessing you know where Dirk lives, I'm a couple doors down at #8.

They can do all sorts of things. The master works as a sort of universal remote. But some of them have tasers and weapons.

Really? So you're neighbors, too! That makes things easier for me. I have a knack for getting lost, I'm afraid.

That's sooooo cool! I take it you only have the scrolls on the spheres? [...wait] Er, this might be a silly question, but do you read Ancient Greek? I mean, I'd assume that's the language they'd be written in?

[He laughs.] Well, hope you find it okay.

I have the master sphere, but it's broken and needs fixing. And yeah, the scrolls are in Ancient Greek. Never studied the language, but I'm fluent in it.

[Jake blinks at that.]

...Really? Did your family speak it around you a lot or something?

[fundemetal]

[Leo shakes his head.] No, but that's how I learned Spanish, English and morse code. It was just my mom and I. The rest of her family lived in the area. I get the Ancient Greek thing from my dad. He's a Greek god - Hephaestus. Making me a demigod.

That's really cool! And your friends are also demigods?

[Leo is very quickly turning into a cool friend in Jake's books.]

I guess. It's pretty dangerous. Not something I would have chosen to be. And yeah, my friends are demigods, too.

Life's always full of danger, though. Maybe some more than others, I grant you. Still, at least you have friends who can understand it and have experienced something like it before.

[fundemetal]

Yeah, but my life before here was a lot more dangerous than it was before I found out I was a demigod.

[He nods.] That helps.

[encore_dueling]

In some ways, it makes you stronger.

[This calls for a subject change.]

So, what are Annabeth and Percy like? I don't think I've met them.

[fundemetal]

They're cool. Annabeth's a daughter of Athena, so she's really smart and a good strategist. She's also really into architecture. Percy's a son of Poseidon so he's god some pretty neat powers with controlling water and stuff. [Insert tl;dr descriptions of what they look like here.] They're also dating each other.

Annabeth is here at the festival. I haven't seen Percy around, but I'm sure he's here, too. If you don't run into them here, they should be around whenever you decide to stop by.
