There was a large stage in the center of the fair, rides, a fortune teller, contests, games, a petting zoo, a fish exhibit, stalls, booths and everything else you can find at a fair.

keepsthefire: ([✠] hey our expressions match)

[It's possible he is, but he is stubborn, and he has made up his mind. For whatever reason he's formed a bond with Maka and Kid that's stronger than the ones he formed with his friends from the cram school. It doesn't mean he loves them any less, he just loves Maka and Kid more. That's how he sees it, anyway.

He has his own thing to say about not worrying about what Yukio has to say, but Shiro cuts him off with the warning about being careful.]

... why?
paladaddy: (contemplative smoking)

[personal profile] paladaddy 2013-06-06 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
[He's hesitant to tell anyone about his thoughts on this matter, since he hasn't confirmed if what he thinks is true or not. But at the same time, he doesn't want Rin to be caught off-guard if his suspicions turn out to be true.]

Have Maka and Kid told you anything about Kid's father?
keepsthefire: ([✠] oh go play hide and go fuck yourself)

[personal profile] keepsthefire 2013-06-06 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[You're worrying him, Shiro]

Lord Death? ... a little.

[He doesn't say it, but 'why?' is unspoken, hovering silently in the air like a bomb waiting to drop.]
paladaddy: (This changes things.)

[personal profile] paladaddy 2013-06-06 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Did they ever have anything bad to say about him? Not things like 'he goofs around too much,' but honest criticism of his actions.
keepsthefire: ([✠] do I look happy?)

[personal profile] keepsthefire 2013-06-06 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh hell. He knew that tone. "You're getting in over your head, Rin", "Don't get involved in things that are dangerous, Rin".

It earned an instant scowl from the teen, and he was back on the defensive.]

They don't talk about him much, actually.
paladaddy: (thinking)

[personal profile] paladaddy 2013-06-06 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Don't be defensive Rin, he's not criticizing you, he's trying to warn you.]

And the few times they did say something, it was never negative, am I right?

Because I had the same thing happen to me: I talked to both Marie and Kid about Kid's father, and the way they talked about him was...weird. Especially when Marie said that everyone in Death City supported him.
keepsthefire: ([✠] tch!)

[personal profile] keepsthefire 2013-06-06 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Since when does Rin take being warned well at all? It's ten times worse now that people he actually cares about are the subject.]

What's wrong with that? If you're a leader worth supporting then why would it be a bad thing? Obviously he's better'n some of the shit leaders in our world, if that's the case.
paladaddy: (tense situations require nicotine)

[personal profile] paladaddy 2013-06-06 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Let me tell you something, Rin: I was one of the most respected and well-liked Paladins in over a century, and even then I didn't have a 100% approval rating. No matter what you do, there's always going to be people who disagree with you, because everyone has their own thoughts and motivations.

I don't know if Marie was voicing her own opinions there- [And Kid has some very obvious reasons why he would be biased, so Shiro won't even address that right now.] -or if she was speaking honestly, but if Kid's father really does have all of the people supporting him with no opposition, that really worries me.
keepsthefire: ([✠] woobieface)

[personal profile] keepsthefire 2013-06-06 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
... maybe she was just speakin' in general terms? Like a lotta people like him so complainers aren't as noisy?

[Fuck, this is making him uncomfortable...]

'sides there's only a few of 'em here, it's not like you can ask some one who doesn't actually work for him.
paladaddy: (damnit my cigarette's broke)

[personal profile] paladaddy 2013-06-06 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Even those that work for him, just the way they think about him is strange. It's like they can't even fathom going against something he says, and they just take his word as the golden truth without any thought put towards it. I know they can think critically, they're not stupid, so for all of them to make such a large oversight is troubling.

[He sighs and pinches at the bridge of his nose.]

It might just be me overthinking things, but I wanted you to be aware of it if you hadn't noticed it already. My gut is telling me that there's more going on here than either of us know about, and I don't want any of us to get caught off-guard if it turns out that Gods of Death in their world have brainwashing powers or something.

[He tries to make that last part sound ridiculous, so it comes off as a 'worst case, not possibly the truth' kind of idea, but it's what Shiro is suspecting is going on. It's either that or Death City is a dystopian society where everyone is afraid to disagree with its ruler.]
keepsthefire: ([✠] omg just stop talking would you)

[personal profile] keepsthefire 2013-06-06 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
[For all of his stubbornness, his headstrong will to go against authority, he always trusted Shiro even when he was being stupid. But this... a part of him was tugging at the part of him that wanted to trust his father like he always did. Something had happened to the two of them back home, something regarding Asura... something neither of them were talking about.

But another part was arguing against it.

And that was the part that won out.

He shook his head slowly, looking almost vaguely horrified that Shir could even be suggesting this.]

You're wrong... you're wrong! There's no way-- I've seen Kid, when he was older, when he thought he'd been here for centuries... it was a curse, yeah, but he wasn't like that! He doesn't need to control anyone!
paladaddy: (frown)

[personal profile] paladaddy 2013-06-06 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Shiro isn't surprised by the reaction. Rin loves his friends, and he expected Rin to get defensive. It's what Rin is saying specifically that is surprising to him.]

I just gave that as a hypothetical situation.

[But he's frowning now. If Rin knows something, especially if that something would confirm Shiro's worries, then he would really like to know.]

Does Kid actually have powers like that? Or does he gain them in the future, even?
keepsthefire: ([✠] don't be stupid!)

[personal profile] keepsthefire 2013-06-06 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Shit. Figures. He opened his big mouth to defend them, and just wound up spilling more than he meant to.

Rin shook his head frantically, officially reaching panic mode.]

No! I don't know! I-I was a kid at the time! I don't remember!
paladaddy: (worried face)

[personal profile] paladaddy 2013-06-06 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Shiro really hates to pull the 'I have more life experience than you' card on Rin, because it's not Rin's fault that he's still a kid. But Rin is digging his heels in the ground about this, and Shiro definitely can't let it go at this point, not when his fears could possibly be confirmed.

Except that they're in the middle of a festival, and Rin's shouting is already drawing attention. Suddenly Shiro is aware of where they are, and he decides that now isn't the time for this. So he shakes his head before speaking.
]

Calm down, making a scene here won't do any good. We'll talk about it later, alright?

[He also wants to do some more research before he confronts Rin about this. There's other people from Kid's world here, they could possibly know more about it. Stein especially might be a good person to talk to.

Waiting until the festival is over is going to be difficult for him.
]
keepsthefire: ([✠] and the cake is a lie?!)

[personal profile] keepsthefire 2013-06-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
... I... I have to...

[Rin let his words trail off weakly, taking a step back from Shiro. He knew they were getting stares, and it was only serving to make him more uncomfortable. Nothing sat right with him - not his argument with Yukio, not this talk now, not the thought of talking about it later. His stomach with twisting with nerves, and he just wanted to get out of there, away from people, away from Shiro.

He didn't say anything else, and before Shiro could have a chance to stop him, he turned and bolted down the lane of festival games, shoving people out of the way as he went.]
