A Brand New Year
The island was certainly all abuzz now. The natives mingle around, decorations abounding and food laid out on tables and still being made. They certainly went all out this time, but if asked they just respond “We’ve been granted another year by the great Lamufao.”
Don’t think about it too hard.
Either way, they’re showing all of their gratitude for the foreigners now. Food is being offered shamelessly, good cheer and compliments and thank you’s passing through each native’s lips.
Near the elevator, in an open field, the party is taking place. They nagged and nagged for the foreigners to dress up; if you didn’t, you might feel a little out of place here. But the food and the music are both excellent and dancing is optional, at least.
The beach is a bit more chill. Enjoy the warmth and the water, maybe kick back and have a drink. It’s night time, certainly, but the weather is still pleasant and the sand is warm.
More attracted by the food on those tables? That’s quite alright; there’s food of all sorts from all sorts of places, not just seafood (be grateful to the natives for trying). There are a few Vatheon only dishes, however, for the daring! (Is that more kraken on that plate…?)
And then, near midnight, comes the fireworks. How romantic would it be to exchange kisses at the stroke of midnight under the light of the fireworks? Or just enjoy them with a friend; they light up the sky, pretty and nothing too fancy…though the natives seem to think that they are incredible.
Most of all, have fun, mingle and enjoy the new year!

[Yomiel, that's who. The programmer stands on the beach, watching the show with a rather unreadable expression. So many things had happened since that fateful night. And with a new year, was it possible that he was new as well?]
[He dodn't know. Maybe things would never change. Dead was dead -or, in his case, cycling through his last minutes over and over again was cycling through his last minutes over and over again. He would never age while that thing was still inside him. That's the way it would always be.]
So much for a happy new year...

He's walking along, arms swinging out widely when he notices-- Yomiel. Ah! It's been far too long and the last time he'd seen the programmer had been around Christmas.
He's near enough to hear that little pessimistic bit and he pouts. ]
What's this? [He sidles right up next to Yomiel, instantly sliding an arm through Yomiel's]
You seem sad. Something the matter, Yomiel~?
no subject
Just thinking that nothing really changes, that's all.
no subject
Eh? Is that right?
[Izaya looks down at his cracked, dirty feet and smiles inwardly.]
Ah I guess I get that. Things don't change. Not that easily anyway. What do you want to be changed?
no subject
[A pause.]
No one can change their past. No one.
no subject
Of course not. It's the curse of humanity, isn't it? And by the time people realize how valuable their choices are, it's too late to change anything. Especially with time. Time expands things and stretches them far apart and it only ever complicates anything.
And I frankly don't believe that time heals. Sometimes, time is the world's cruelest form of torture. But honestly, I've learned by now that there's no point in sulking. It's just another bad choice, hn?
no subject
[Ten whole years of being like this...it felt like a hundred.]
True, sulking does nothing. That is why I prefer action, in the end.
no subject
Ah? Action? Like what?
[He let's go of Yomiel's arm in favor of sitting down on the grass beside him. He's tired, after all, and why not? The show has only just begun.]
no subject
You don't know? How surprising, Izaya, I thought you knew me well.
[And he turns to stare upwards at the streaks of light painting the nighttime sky.]
I've mentioned it many times before.
Revenge.

[He watches Yomiel instead of the show, his legs collected to his chest.]
I mean, Vatheon isn't exactly ideal for people like us, hn? Our ambitions get interrupted.
no subject
[A pause as the fireworks reflect on the dark glass of his sunglasses with bright patterns and lines.]
That's true. It's a real barrier, isn't it?
