[ Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen of Vatheon— whatever your newfound stature may be, Prince, Princess, Knight, or Peasant, you will all receive a message on your SFC on the eve of Saturday regardless:

You are cordially invited to the castle for this evening's ball. In addition, you are all welcome to try and solve the riddle if it fancies you. It just may break the curse!

The invitation is unsigned, but its intentions are clear. Maybe you hadn't quite noticed the sizeable castle in the distance of the city that had sprung up, but this message would surely garner your attention toward it now.

Should you arrive at the castle, plenty of attractions await you:

Ballroom ❧ A very large and beautiful ballroom is lighted up, complete with a playing violin orchestra. While the curtains will be drawn during this event, there is a windowed view and exit on one side of the ballroom that leads to:

Smee's Rose Garden ❧ A broad and colorful spanse of a garden, complete with many paths and turns. Plenty of roses are arranged in great arches, which provide perfect little places should you need some privacy with your sweetheart. Anyone familiar will even tell you that the garden was purposefully designed for just that sort of thing.

The Riddle ❧ There is an inscription located on a noticeable plaque set in one of the garden's benches. It reads:

Two are necessary to break this curse
Riled up, upset, what kind of love?
Only this kiss will stop it from getting worse.
Look for a winged one is push comes to shove,
Look for a glance slightly dark,
Search for a pair in reluctant love.
One answers a call; that's your mark;
One longs for patria though adverse.

Dining Hall ❧ Connected to the ballroom is an extremely long hall that stretches as far as the eye can see, elegantly arranged as the dining area. Expensive and exquisite cuisine seem to be on the menu— try something new? Chances are you won't be eating from a selection such as this again anytime soon!

Dais ❧ There is a noticeable raised dais that is easily visible via any area within the ballroom. It's locked off from guests, though— what is it for...?

[And very decorative they are! Cielo's simply entranced by the colors for a moment before he leans over and takes a bite out of one.]

[Shizuo's genuinely glad that Cielo seems to like the salad, seeing as how he interrupted his dinner of roses.]

I'm sure there are other foods you'll like too.

[Like it or not, Cielo wants to try as many things he can!]

Hey, Shizuo, what's this?

[He points with his beak at a basket full of dinner rolls]

That's bread.

[Shizuo reaches over and picks up one of the rolls, holding it out to Cielo. He figures that if he guy likes to eat flowers that have been outside, other people touching his food won't make a difference.]

A roll. Try it.

[NOPE. DOESN'T CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE TOUCHING HIS FOOD.

AT ALL.

IT KIND OF HAPPENED ALL THE TIME BACK WHERE HE COMES FROM.

Carefully, he takes the roll in his beak before putting it down and tearing off small pieces to eat.]

Oh, this is weird. Tasty, but weird.

[It's got such a strange texture!]

[Shizuo nods, though of course he doesn't think bread tastes weird. But he figures if you're used to eating flowers and greens, bread can be a little strange.]

How about meat, next?

[His role is that of a huntsman, albeit a somewhat failed one, so he knows a thing or two about meat.]

[Oh meat...that's something Cielo knows about. Yep.]

What kind is there?

[He's got this weird craving for Mizuchi. Or Yurlungur. But they...probably don't serve demons here.]

[Sorry, Shizuo doesn't see any demons...not that he would recognize them.]

There's veal, quail...some chicken dish. That's...foie gras. That's supposed to be pretty good. Expensive. But I guess we don't have to worry about that.

[And Shizuo just realizes he's giving out a lot of bird options. Ah. That's kind of awkward. Let him just...]

And this looks like steak. Beef. Different cuts. There's some fish over there.

[Cielo recognizes some of the words. Quail and chicken are birds, that he knows. But he doesn't make the connection that him, currently as a bird, eating other birds is awkward. He looks first at the beef, and then at the fish, and he leans in to try one of the of the fish dishes when he pauses.]

Aren't you going to eat anything?

[He should be eating. He hasn't managed to kill anything all week, and food wasn't exactly easy to come by otherwise given Vatheon's state. But Shizuo has a lot on his mind, and eventually wants to head back to the gardens to...wait. So he shakes his head.]

I'm not very hungry.

You said you were going to eat earlier.

[Cielo comes from a place where not eating has terrible consequences, and not all of it has to do with starvation. But Vatheon is not the Junkyard. People here do not bear the same curse he does. If Shizuo doesn't want to eat, then so be it.

Still, Cielo nudges a few plates of food towards him.]

Take some of these with you then. It's fancy, so that means that you don't get to have some every day, ja?

[And well, he should.]

That's true. Okay. I will.

[Shizuo takes up a plate, and gives Cielo a small smile. Really, he wasn't so bad, considering Shizuo found him eating flowers.]
