[ Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen of Vatheon— whatever your newfound stature may be, Prince, Princess, Knight, or Peasant, you will all receive a message on your SFC on the eve of Saturday regardless:

You are cordially invited to the castle for this evening's ball. In addition, you are all welcome to try and solve the riddle if it fancies you. It just may break the curse!

The invitation is unsigned, but its intentions are clear. Maybe you hadn't quite noticed the sizeable castle in the distance of the city that had sprung up, but this message would surely garner your attention toward it now.

Should you arrive at the castle, plenty of attractions await you:

Ballroom ❧ A very large and beautiful ballroom is lighted up, complete with a playing violin orchestra. While the curtains will be drawn during this event, there is a windowed view and exit on one side of the ballroom that leads to:

Smee's Rose Garden ❧ A broad and colorful spanse of a garden, complete with many paths and turns. Plenty of roses are arranged in great arches, which provide perfect little places should you need some privacy with your sweetheart. Anyone familiar will even tell you that the garden was purposefully designed for just that sort of thing.

The Riddle ❧ There is an inscription located on a noticeable plaque set in one of the garden's benches. It reads:

Two are necessary to break this curse
Riled up, upset, what kind of love?
Only this kiss will stop it from getting worse.
Look for a winged one is push comes to shove,
Look for a glance slightly dark,
Search for a pair in reluctant love.
One answers a call; that's your mark;
One longs for patria though adverse.

Dining Hall ❧ Connected to the ballroom is an extremely long hall that stretches as far as the eye can see, elegantly arranged as the dining area. Expensive and exquisite cuisine seem to be on the menu— try something new? Chances are you won't be eating from a selection such as this again anytime soon!

Dais ❧ There is a noticeable raised dais that is easily visible via any area within the ballroom. It's locked off from guests, though— what is it for...?

[Apparently she hadn't expected anyone to hear her, because at the question she jumped and stared as if she was a deer caught in headlights.]

He's--um... [fidgets.] Wait, how long have you been standing there!?

[The very pale face and blue lips weren't there out of surprise, though.]

Oh. I'm sorry.

[He had only been concerned and wanting to help. He fumbles a bit.]

Not long...I just heard you and thought...ah, you don't have to tell me. Sorry.

[He wants to make sure she's okay, but he feels like he's already overstepped a boundary.]

... [Seeing him get all flustered seemed to make her calm down, actually. The surprised look had already changed to a curious one.]

You thought...what?

[That question wasn't particularly barbed or sarcastic; it was a genuine one.]

I thought I could help you find who you are looking for.

[He smiles a small, slightly uncomfortable smile.]

You want to help me with something like that? But you don't even know me. And I don't even have any leads to work with!

[Same old Jane.]

I said I was sorry! And I didn't know, I just thought I would ask.

[He feels stupid now.]

...You're a really emotional guy, aren't you.

[She doesn't seem to realize that a remark like that wouldn't help at all.]

[It's not far from the truth. Under this curse, Shizuo is a bit more expressive. Lucky for her, though, Shizuo the huntsman is more in control of his temper than normal Shizuo, though he does look a little irritated at the remark.]

No, not usually. You are pretty blunt, though, considering I was just trying to be nice.

I know that. I'm just saying, you shouldn't waste your time helping me when I don't even know where to look.

[pouts slightly and starts swinging her legs back and forth.]

Okay. So we won't look then.

[Kind of awkward now. He isn't sure whether or not he should leave.]

[beat.]

Hey mister. Has your memory been kind of weird lately?

Yeah.

[Even the events that happened just days ago were foggy.]

Yours too?

...Yeah. Not too many people seem to be talking about it, so I was starting to think it was just me.

[frowns. It was overdone just enough so someone might think she was only sulking.]

It's weird!

I think it's hard for some people to tell.

[As for Shizuo, he seemed to go in and out, with moments of clarity followed by full absorption into his role.]

It is weird. But hopefully it'll stop soon.

[He offers an encouraging smile.]

[She offered a little smile back. It wasn't much, but it was a start.]

They usually do! I'm not worried about that part. Not at all~

Good.

[A short nod.]

What part are you worried about?

[GAH. That just got her flustered all over again.]

That...that's a secret! It's nothing that's as bad as losing memories, though!

Oh okay. You don't have to tell me.

[He didn't mean to fluster her again! Ah, he feels like he's doing a really bad job, here.]

[Honestly, this was downright tame compared to how she usually reacted when she was upset or angry.]

Who are you, anyway?

My name's Shizuo. I'm a huntsman.

Ah - [Clear confusion spreads across his face, because...that wasn't exactly right. And yet, he dressed, worked, and even thought like a hunter.]

I think.

[He shrugs.]

What's your name?

I'm-- [She paused and made a face as she tried to remember. After all, she wasn't 'Jane' anymore. She was 'Snow Maiden' now, as far as the curse was concerned.]

Jane. I think.

It's hard to remember. But.

[A smile.]

It's nice to meet you.

Likewise, I suppose...

[She's totally not awkward, what are you talking about?]

These aren't very good circumstances, though.

[Shizuo nods.]

They could be worse, though.

Yeah... I mean the barrier could be breaking for good or something like that!
