If anyone actually wanders up there, they will find the whole village decorated with strings of light, fish shaped lanterns, streamers, and kelp. Just past the North edge of the Village was a fair.

There was a large stage in the center of the fair, rides, a fortune teller, contests, games, a petting zoo, a fish exhibit, stalls, booths and everything else you can find at a fair.

[Wallace sneaked up behind Fai and playfully tapped him on the shoulder. How could he miss out on such a spectacular view?]

Hello, Fai. Have you been enjoying the summer fair?

[Fai turned his head slightly to look over his shoulder and see who tapped him. He smiled at the familiar face and turned slightly to face him more fully.]

It's been a lot of fun. I really enjoyed all the rides and games. How about you?

I have been enjoying going on the arcade games and also just walking around and taking it all in. There is so much to do here. I'm not sure what to do next.

There really is a lot to do. It was nice of them to have such a nice festival for us.

Yes, I do agree. It makes a change for something like this to go ahead, as I love carnivals and the such. Back home we have contests for Pokémon, where people come in the thousands to see our Pokémon perform.

Really? Do they do tricks and things? What kind of contests are they?

[champ_coordinator]

They perform in front of a panel of judges, as they perform moves and tricks with skill and grace. The idea is that the Pokémon shines in front of the trainer and judges. It is quite spectacular.

Wow, I'd like to see it. I wonder if this world will ever have enough pokemon on it to do something like that.

[champ_coordinator]

If you ever come to Hoenn, I could show you the contest halls. [Oh, he would. In all their shining splendour.]

That would be nice. I'm not sure how likely that is to happen though. We can't really control where we end up. But I'll be sure to remember the offer~

I will show you around, if you ever do visit. There is so much to do, Fai. Even wandering around in the wilds is fun. You get to meet wild Pokémon.

I have seen so many different kinds already. But there are hundreds of different ones, right? I wonder if I will ever get to see them all.

[champ_coordinator]

Yes, hundreds. There are so many and all from different regions also. Trainers often have a machine called a Pokedex to record all the information about a Pokémon.

Pokedex? Is that like our SFC communicators? [Because Fai's knowledge of technology is fairly limited.]

[champ_coordinator]

I suppose it is sort of. It logs and records wild Pokémon encounters, so that you know what Pokémon you saw and can read up on it.

That is really useful. Were you able to bring it with you or was it replaced by the SFC?

[champ_coordinator]

No, I do have it here with me. Let me show you. [Wallace pulled out his Pokedex and showed Fai.] It logs and records all information about any Pokémon.

Does it only show you the ones you have actually seen, or does it have information on every single one that is out there?

[champ_coordinator]

Usually, it records the Pokémon you have just seen. If you point the camera part at the wild Pokémon it records the data.

That must be really useful! Then you know all the info of ones you have never seen before, right? So how many have you actually recorded?

[champ_coordinator]

[He nodded.] Yes, that's right.

I have recorded a few hundred now, as I have lost count over the years. [He laughed softly, then passed Fai the Pokedex.]

[Fai took it in his hands and turned it over a few times.] How do you make it work?

[champ_coordinator]

You press the button on the side like this... [He showed Fai, as he turned the Pokedex on and a display screen appeared.]

How about you try it out on Milotic? She won't mind, as she's standing right behind me. [Sure enough, the water Pokémon had moved over to see what was going on.]

[Fai held it out and aimed it at the pokemon, curious to see what the item would do.]

[The Pokedex made a beeping noise before an electronic voice began to explain the stats of Milotic. It also showed a picture of the Pokémon and where it can be caught.]
