[ Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen of Vatheon— whatever your newfound stature may be, Prince, Princess, Knight, or Peasant, you will all receive a message on your SFC on the eve of Saturday regardless:

You are cordially invited to the castle for this evening's ball. In addition, you are all welcome to try and solve the riddle if it fancies you. It just may break the curse!

The invitation is unsigned, but its intentions are clear. Maybe you hadn't quite noticed the sizeable castle in the distance of the city that had sprung up, but this message would surely garner your attention toward it now.

Should you arrive at the castle, plenty of attractions await you:

Ballroom ❧ A very large and beautiful ballroom is lighted up, complete with a playing violin orchestra. While the curtains will be drawn during this event, there is a windowed view and exit on one side of the ballroom that leads to:

Smee's Rose Garden ❧ A broad and colorful spanse of a garden, complete with many paths and turns. Plenty of roses are arranged in great arches, which provide perfect little places should you need some privacy with your sweetheart. Anyone familiar will even tell you that the garden was purposefully designed for just that sort of thing.

The Riddle ❧ There is an inscription located on a noticeable plaque set in one of the garden's benches. It reads:

Two are necessary to break this curse
Riled up, upset, what kind of love?
Only this kiss will stop it from getting worse.
Look for a winged one is push comes to shove,
Look for a glance slightly dark,
Search for a pair in reluctant love.
One answers a call; that's your mark;
One longs for patria though adverse.

Dining Hall ❧ Connected to the ballroom is an extremely long hall that stretches as far as the eye can see, elegantly arranged as the dining area. Expensive and exquisite cuisine seem to be on the menu— try something new? Chances are you won't be eating from a selection such as this again anytime soon!

Dais ❧ There is a noticeable raised dais that is easily visible via any area within the ballroom. It's locked off from guests, though— what is it for...?

Thank you. That makes me happy. I never really thought of myself as good friend material before.

[He returns her smile.]

[Shrug] Wwell, if they're in lovve, and acknowwledgin' it wwould savve us all from this ridiculous curse, then they don't havve much right to keep us all in the dark, do they?

My past? [He shifts closer to her, frowning] Wwho are you?

It certainly is strange.

[Nothing too special, just you're average looking dragon.]

I was still a dragon, but I looked a lot more human...and was exactly this large. Sort of like this...

[And she shifts back into her human looking form, wearing the same dress as the one she was wearing at the party.]

[He takes a drink from his own goblet, eyeing Darkleer with irritated confusion]

You don't havve much choice, to my mind. If you wwant a drink, then get it. I'm not goin' anywwhere.

You want to help me with something like that? But you don't even know me. And I don't even have any leads to work with!

[Same old Jane.]

[This is Dualscar. She pulled herself to her full height, knowing what sort of troll he was. How impressive she had to be] I am the Handmaid. I am Death's own Handmaid, the Demon's right hand, the war maiden herself. I am the Demoness, the one choosing souls from the battlefield to my own side. [Her hand twitched, a wand appearing] I am the witch you hear only in hushed tones around a campfire and deep within your own ship.

[Then she shrugged] I prefer the Demoness, if you wish to have one name to call me.

I said I was sorry! And I didn't know, I just thought I would ask.

[He feels stupid now.]

...You're a really emotional guy, aren't you.

[She doesn't seem to realize that a remark like that wouldn't help at all.]

[And indeed she does, after looking around at the flowers, she feels the presence of someone else with her nearby. So she turns around, and notices the knight. She gives him a friendly wave from her position, wondering if she should get a bit closer.]

Oh, hello there.

[Eddies startles and turns with a bit of a loud clanking. Erk. He gives a rather sloppy bow (he just pretends to care about manners).]

Ah, ya highness. I didn't think I'd run into anyone.

[Let alone a royal. Oh well.]

Why ain't you inside with everyone else?

[It's not far from the truth. Under this curse, Shizuo is a bit more expressive. Lucky for her, though, Shizuo the huntsman is more in control of his temper than normal Shizuo, though he does look a little irritated at the remark.]

No, not usually. You are pretty blunt, though, considering I was just trying to be nice.

[ He'd be okay with that, aside from the urge to sit in roads/guard places and riddle people. But he's Duke and just weird that way.

A little bit of rumbly purring is all he adds to her harp playing. Its nice. ]

The Demoness. [Incredulous doesn't begin to describe it] You claim to be the Demoness? That's nothin' more than a sailor's tale for stormy nights.

You are right, of course.

[She sits down on the edge of the fountain.]

I just want to be as sure as possible I have the right people in mind before inflicting that sort of embarrassment on someone.

[She glances down to his tail with curiosity. What does it feel like? No, touching is inappropriate. Besides, it's something that must be inconvenient for him.]

Did you want me to bring you anything from inside?

Indeed. All the more reason then to help you with it, then hm?

[We'll wait til you actually offer the sack before we actually act on that offer though. Wouldn't want to be too presumptuous and seem like we might be stealing to anyone watching.]

[OMNOMNOM THESE ROSES ARE DELICIOUS

...totally sorry if he interrupts your romantic moment.]

I know that. I'm just saying, you shouldn't waste your time helping me when I don't even know where to look.

[pouts slightly and starts swinging her legs back and forth.]

Did you want me to get anything from inside? It's been a little difficult to find food during this curse.

[And she knows that he's not a fan of crowds. She can deal with it, though.]

Okay. So we won't look then.

[Kind of awkward now. He isn't sure whether or not he should leave.]

[Her playing becomes slower as the purring lulls her to sleep. She's pretty content to just take a nap there... though she might die of embarrassment for having slept half on top of a man once the curse is over.]

[Her wand found its way under his chin, glowing softly with her majyyks] Do you wish to test that, Orphaner Dualscar?

[beat.]

Hey mister. Has your memory been kind of weird lately?

It has.

[Even under this curse, Shizuo is a terrible huntsman. He can't bring himself to kill anything. And Zelda is absolutely right, Shizuo isn't big on crowds, huntsman or not. But what he doesn't want to admit - to himself or otherwise - is that he's hoping to bump into the very man he tried to kill. Under normal circumstances, Shizuo would translate this desire to mean hatred, or bury it so entirely that it wouldn't surface at all. But huntsman Shizuo is a little more open...and that promise...Even though it's supposed to be days from now, and not in a castle, it's what drew him to the gardens to begin with.]

I'll probably go in there in a little while. Thank you.
