She's Been Sleeping with the Chocobos

Selphie had been pretty quiet lately. There was that curse, and that was weird, being so tiny and so small. She went places and was completely unnoticed. There there was Valentine's Day and all of the confusion that was brought with that. And now, now Selphie is pretty exhausted. The chocobos eggs are due to burst open soon, at least they should, and Selphie's been hiding out in the chocobo barn waiting for them to hatch, to make sure everything goes okay.

Maybe you haven't seen her around in a couple of days, not at the plaza, or at her usual cafes. Maybe you've noticed that she hasn't been home lately. Or maybe you don't know who she is, you don't care, and you're just walking past the barn and feel like looking in. But there's a Selphie in there, and she's got some blankets, a small pile of books, her guitar, and a box filled with empty takeaway tea cups and empty sandwich wrappers.

Find her in the morning/early afternoon and she'll be fast asleep on the hay. Later in the day she'll be grooming the birds, maybe playing with them outside, or singing to them. At night, she'll be keeping vigil.

It's likely the chocobos will be afraid of him. He's got "predator" written all over !

[Vegeta is in a good mood. There's another Saiyan here in Vatheon, and he seems to know a few interesting tricks. He's in such a good mood, in fact, that he's off looking for things for them to hunt together. He pokes his head in the chocobo barn, looking at the birds and wondering how fast they run.]

*Selphie was grooming some of the birds at one side of the barn. The rest were eating lunch, and some more were running around outside behind the barn. But suddenly the atmosphere shifted and the birds all turned to look sharply towards the intruder. One or two of the more aggressive males stomped their way a little closer*

It's afternoon when Squall arrived. He might have been extremely busy as of late between Defense Force work and Rinoa's appearance, but he hadn't forgotten that he had a chocobo chick to take care of. So, like a good animal owner, he was taking his pet out for fresh air. With Tempest on his shoulder, he walked outside, not caring if anyone was going to stare at him.

The chocobo farm was in the direction he was walking and he decided, why not visit Selphie? They haven't talked for a while and wanted to know how she was doing and Tempest would probably be excited to see other chocobos.

Upon entering, he quickly found Selphie and leaned against the barn door with his arms crossed.

"Hey."

Selphie was finishing pouring out the food for the birds, and they flocked around her to get at their lunch. She laughed to see just how hungry they were even though they were fed regularly. And then she wondered how hungry or not she was.

But her thoughts were interrupted by Squall's voice, and she spun round to throw him and Tempest a wave, "Hi guys!~"

"You're doing well," Squall remarked as he watched the birds crowd around to get at the food. Some of them were even trying to push each other aside to get to it first. Privately, he thought taking care of even one bird was a lot of work, let alone a whole barn full.

"I'm doing my best!" Selphie smiled before putting away the bucket she'd used for the food. It had gotten harder lately - it seemed that people didn't care so much about the chocobos anymore. Or the people that did had left.

[Chitose was rather curious about this chocobo barn that she had heard so much about. They were strange creatures but it was said that they could run pretty fast. She wanted to test that.

As she got to the barn, she raised an eyebrow. They were definitely a lot stranger than she thought]

*Selphie emerged from among a crowd of birds, smiling at them and giving one a big hug*

Don't worry, your baby will be born soon and it'll be beautiful!

*Some of the mummy and daddy birds tended to worry. But then she stopped the girl and gave her a wave*

Hi there!

[Chitose was taken off guard as she heard Selphie. Either way, she smiles back]

Hello there, are you the one in charge of these chocobos?

*Selphie laughs a little and shakes her head*

These guys are in charge of themselves!

*But she smiles gently and nods at the girl*

But I guess I look after them most.

[ He'd slept through most of it, truth be told. Slept through the Valentine's Day madness after being sloshed from spiked tea if you want the details. However, after some rather disturbing news regarding Izaya, he's taken to wandering around the city instead of staying home or sleeping in.

Today, he's found Selphie snoozing on the hay. Considering the last time he saw her, she was tinier than a cat's nose... it was a relief to see her doing fine.

Pardon him but he's just gonna nudge her ever so slightly. ]

Hey. Selphie. The hell're you doing sleeping out here?

*Selphie twitches a little at the nudging, and just as she's coming round from sleep she jolts up and stares straight at Laharl*

I'm not late! I'm promise, I'm not!

*Oh, it's not Squall, and she's not late for anything cause she has nothing to be late for!*

Oh! Morning!

[ And you get a raised eye from this because really, big sis. Sleeping in hay? What the hey? ]

Why're ya sleeping out here anyway? And what the hell happened?

Last time I saw ya, you were on your cat's nose.

*Hurray for hay jokes! Selphie covers her mouth with her hand as she yawns and smiles up at him*

The eggs! The babies are due soon, and I gotta be here to make sure it all goes okay.

Eggs?

Tieria was curious. He hadn't seen Selphie in some time, so he wandered into the barn. Knowing she occasionally spent time there, he wondered if that had been where she was all this time. He stepped inside, looking around.

"Selphie?"

Eggs!

Selphie was lying beside some sleeping chocobos, half asleep herself. That's what happens when she starts singing lullabies to help the mother chocobos sleep. She sat up slowly when she heard his voice, careful not to rouse the birds. "Hi, Tieria."

"What are you doing in here?" he asked. Why was she sleeping with the birds? Didn't she have a proper place to sleep?

Selphie dragged herself to her feet, wrapping the blanket around her like a cape as she did so. "Oh! I'm just looking after them for a while!"

[It's her singing voice that attracts Yukari to the barn; although she realizes it's been quite some time since she's checked on Star and the other chocobos as well, so really, it's a good a time as any.

She wanders in with a smile; but doesn't say anything right away, waiting for Selphie to finish the song she's in the middle of first.]

*Yay with the singing! Selphie finishes her little song, clapping an applause afterwards in appreciation of the chocobos' singing and dancing, totally unaware that anyone else is there*

Good work, guys!

[Welp! Time to reveal her presence, then. She starts clapping along with the applause too, and walks a little bit closer.]

You have a nice voice, Selphie.

*Selphie spins round to Yukari but continues applauding*

Eikichi hadn't really heard from Selphie for awhile, which was unusual as she was as excitable as he was. Then again, that curse had really gotten in the way. It had Eikichi rather livid. He hated bullies and people who cursed others from behind masks. And here he thought he was done with that stuff.

He was tired of thinking about this business (and hearing Hades grumble at the back of his mind), so he took a walk. He'd been to the barn with Selphie before, so it seemed like a good place to go.

And there is where he saw Selphie. Go figure. "Yo, babe."

Selphie was waking from a nap, carefully lifting the blanket from over her. She stood to her feet and shook hay from it before walking to the wall of the barn, where she hung it up on a hook - just in case it got dirty. She was mumbling something to one of the birds when she heard the voice and, of course, there was only one person who referred to her as 'babe'.

Selphie turned to him then, smiling brightly while rubbing a sleepy eye, "Hey."

"How's it goin', babe?" Eikichi grinned in return, somewhat oblivious to her sleeping out here. If he knew, he'd try to make her feel happier about whatever was bothering her.

Now Eikichi usually put on a rather rough persona, but there was a softer side to him, and Selphie seemed to bring it out. Maybe it was their shared love of music that drew them close. Maybe she reminded him of someone. Whatever the case, he wouldn't want to see her down.
