She's Been Sleeping with the Chocobos

Selphie had been pretty quiet lately. There was that curse, and that was weird, being so tiny and so small. She went places and was completely unnoticed. There there was Valentine's Day and all of the confusion that was brought with that. And now, now Selphie is pretty exhausted. The chocobos eggs are due to burst open soon, at least they should, and Selphie's been hiding out in the chocobo barn waiting for them to hatch, to make sure everything goes okay.

Maybe you haven't seen her around in a couple of days, not at the plaza, or at her usual cafes. Maybe you've noticed that she hasn't been home lately. Or maybe you don't know who she is, you don't care, and you're just walking past the barn and feel like looking in. But there's a Selphie in there, and she's got some blankets, a small pile of books, her guitar, and a box filled with empty takeaway tea cups and empty sandwich wrappers.

Find her in the morning/early afternoon and she'll be fast asleep on the hay. Later in the day she'll be grooming the birds, maybe playing with them outside, or singing to them. At night, she'll be keeping vigil.

"How's it goin', babe?" Eikichi grinned in return, somewhat oblivious to her sleeping out here. If he knew, he'd try to make her feel happier about whatever was bothering her.

Now Eikichi usually put on a rather rough persona, but there was a softer side to him, and Selphie seemed to bring it out. Maybe it was their shared love of music that drew them close. Maybe she reminded him of someone. Whatever the case, he wouldn't want to see her down.

Selphie felt much happier with her new friend around, and she smiled brightly, "I'm good! Just getting ready for the babies to be born!" She pointed to the corner where most mothers were lying on their eggs keeping them warm, but some were outside and the eggs were there among the hay.

"Oh yeah? That time already?" Eikichi asked with a grin. It wasn't too long ago that Selphie had introduced Eikichi to the chocobo and he'd heard about their eggs. He didn't know much about birds and eggs anyway. He knew more than he cared about fish, since his father ran Gatten Sushi back at home, but not birds.

"Uh huh. I'm just worried, cause this is Vatheon, and maybe it won't work the same way that it did last year..." She frowned a for a tiny fraction of a moment before turning back to Michel. "How are you, anyway? I haven't seen you in ages." Or it felt like it, and she stepped quickly forward for a hug.

"Changes that much?" This place was sounding more and more like Sumaru, with rumors shaping the world. Unfortunately, it didn't shape so well for his world. Here might be different.

Now he wasn't one to reject a hug at all (especially from a pretty girl), and hugged happily in return. "Aside from chasin' mice all over the place?" That was something else... "Been pretty good. Trying to find who's in charge but no one knows. Oh and the new guy that's gonna join the band, his name's Dave Strider. He's the DJ I was talking about before."

"I dunno. I don't get this place. I don't wanna second guess it - it's just not possible." Cause really, Vatheon was capable of anything it wanted to be.

Hugging him made her realise just how long she'd cooped herself up with the birds and she squeezed a little hard before stepping back and laughing, "Chasting mice?"

"Oh, that's cool! I've never met him before but that's exciting!"

Yeah, this place really did rank up there in weirdness, right along side the recent events in Sumaru. His chasing mice all over the place really proved that.

"Yeah, I had this urge to chase mice out of the town because the locals wanted to get rid of them. Then they didn't pay me the 10,000 yen they promised." He shrugged. "Felt like I was living in a storybook."

Yup, ranking right up there in weirdness.

"He's a pretty cool guy."

Selphie couldn't help but laugh at that - not at him, but the whole thing was just quite amusing. Actually, really funny. "Huh - that's nothing! I was teeny tiny, like the size of a cat's paw! It was really, really hard getting around..." Not to mention horrible cause no one noticed her.

"Well, that's good! So when do rehearsals starts?"

Yeah, it was funny and ridiculous. Eikichi laughed too. In hindsight, it was hilarious, but during the curse, it was the worst thing in the world not to get paid.

"Like the one-inch samurai! Ishhun-boshi or something," Eikichi nodded. "Must've been really hard." He couldn't imagine being the size of the one-inch samurai. He'd probably get Hades to tote him around--- but then again, what if Hades was tiny too?

He shook the thought from his head. "We gotta decide on a time, babe. At least we don't need to work around school here."

His laughter was refreshing, and infectious, so it kept her going a little longer. "A one-inch samurai?" Yeah, that's funny too. Really funny. "I'd be an awesome one-inch samurai!" Though she wouldn't actually force that upon herself now.

"Well...I'm looking after the chocobos just now. But there's no reason why we can't meet up here. These guys LOVE music!"

"Yeah, it's an old Japanese folk tale. Kinda remember it from school." Not that he really listened. He was a poor student.

"Hey, now, babe, that sounds like a great plan," he agreed. Why not practice with an audience?

"Huh... That makes sense! You guys have a bunch of crazy stories to tell!"

But she was so pleased that he agreed, and she clapped her hands, gaining the chocobos' attention, "They'd dance for ya too!"

"Yeah there's all sorts of legends, most of them are pretty old," Eikichi added. He listened in class. Sometimes. Then again, most of these legends were commonplace in Japan like Little Red Riding Hood was in America.

Now there was a fine idea. "Sounds great babe. I think they'd be a great audience."

Some of the chocobos were beginning to surround them, looking quite curious. Maybe it was Selphie's excitement from talking about the music and the audience. "Great! So when? When can we?"

"Any time, babe," Eikichi grinned. "Strider's not hard to find so we'll drag him along too." This was incredibly exciting. Actually getting a band together to practice and sing his heart out. It was like a dream come true.

In her excitement she pounced forward for another quick squeeze, "This is gonna be so great! When you get him, bring him here, and we'll get it all started. We'll be putting on gigs in no time!!"

He welcomed her hug, though he wasn't quite used to getting hugged this much. He was known as a bad-boy delinquent back at home, but here? The Great Michel making his band like he always wanted. "It'll be EPIC. We'll rock this bubble!"

Don't mind her, she just likes hugs and she's super excited so she doesn't know what to do with herself. The birds around her start to hope and she holds up her hand for a high five. "Totally!"

Eikichi returned the gesture, accompanied by a grin. He felt incredibly comfortable around her, so he had no hesitation with hugs and high fives, even if the birds were watching. And it was exciting!~ He could live his dream here in a bubble somewhere far away.

Selphie watched the chocobos around them getting all excited and she clapped her hands together again, "We're gonna be so awesome! We need a real name, and some costumes too if we're gonna perform!"

"We do," Eikichi agreed. He hadn't really thought of a name. They couldn't really be 'Gas Chamber', since that was the band back in Sumaru. He still wore their logo on his sleeve, but that didn't mean he couldn't add another band on his arm. "First thing we'll have to do is figure out a name."

"Hmm..." Selphie's going her best to brainstorm, but it's not happening. "We should figure it out when we get the band together!"

"Exactly, babe," he nodded. Three heads were probably better than one.

[booyaka_boom]

"Okay, so you gotta arrange for this guy to get here, and then we can sort all this stuff out. Okay?" Cause after all, he was the band leader, right, so it was up to him to do the business side.

"You got it, babe." Eikichi was all ready for organizing. He'd heard that curses only come around once a month, so he'd have plenty of time before he was sent to chase rats or something stupid.
