Selphie had been pretty quiet lately. There was that curse, and that was weird, being so tiny and so small. She went places and was completely unnoticed. There there was Valentine's Day and all of the confusion that was brought with that. And now, now Selphie is pretty exhausted. The chocobos eggs are due to burst open soon, at least they should, and Selphie's been hiding out in the chocobo barn waiting for them to hatch, to make sure everything goes okay.

Maybe you haven't seen her around in a couple of days, not at the plaza, or at her usual cafes. Maybe you've noticed that she hasn't been home lately. Or maybe you don't know who she is, you don't care, and you're just walking past the barn and feel like looking in. But there's a Selphie in there, and she's got some blankets, a small pile of books, her guitar, and a box filled with empty takeaway tea cups and empty sandwich wrappers.

Find her in the morning/early afternoon and she'll be fast asleep on the hay. Later in the day she'll be grooming the birds, maybe playing with them outside, or singing to them. At night, she'll be keeping vigil.

"It's not too much for you?" There was a hint of concern in his voice. It seemed like Selphie was spending a lot of time here lately. He'd offer his help, but he's pretty sure that it would just cause more work for her.

"Nah... It keeps me busy!" Which, in some sort of way, is like saying yes, sometimes. She raised her hands high above her head in a stretch and moved closer to look at Tempest. "Hey beautiful, how are you?"

Tempest cooed at her. Selphie was one of her favorite people!

"That's good," Squall said, looking a bit silly being all serious with a happy chocobo chick on his shoulder. "Did you see Rinoa yet?"

Selphie reached out to pet the bird - she was a big fan of the chocobo too! Then she clapped her hands together brightly and nodded her head, a lot. "Yeah, yeah! I did! Isn't it awesome having her back? You two must be so happy!"

Yeah, forgetting about time frames and stuff there.

Happy? Well, Squall's glad that Rinoa is safe, though what she told him about fighting Matron doesn't sit well with him...

Oh. Selphie means that...thing she told him.

"Uh...yeah. She's upset about her dog though."

Selphie had never had a pet until she came to Vatheon, and now she couldn't imagine not having Moses around. She bowed her head for a second, just thinking about this, before clapping her hands and looking over at the nesting mothers, "Then she can have a chocobo chick! Called Angelo!"

Squall shrugs. "You can show her and see if she wants one." Rinoa seemed to take a liking to Tempest, but she was his pet, not hers. "I don't think suggesting we name one Angelo is a good idea though."

If she wants to name one after the dog, that's fine, but they probably shouldn't bring Angelo's name up at all.

"Hmm..." Selphie thought about this for a while, and maybe he was right after all. It just came to her that having a new Angelo might be nice. "Well...then she can pick whatever name she likes!"

"Assuming she wants one," Squall replies. But he does think that maybe Rinoa would enjoy having a pet of her own to take care of. But first they should make sure that she's all settled into the city before asking her if she wants a chocobo chick.

Huh? Why the heck would anyone not want a chocobo? That didn't make any sense at all. Still, she just nodded - Squall knew Rinoa best, after all. "Well... They've gotta hatch first.."

He actually doesn't know whether Rinoa would want a chocobo or not. Just that they shouldn't assume she'd be adopting one.

"How many eggs are there?"

"Uhm... there are seven, I think. Yeah, seven." In fact, something suddenly occurs to her and she points at two chocobos cuddled in the corner, "Rinoa and Squall are having one together!"

"What!?"

It takes Squall a moment to realize that she was talking about the chocobos she had named after him and Rinoa.

Sometimes, he felt like the universe was mocking him.

Ahahaha, sorry, Selphie is too busy laughing. But then she made more of a point of singling out the birds. "A perfect match, right?"

That's not funny, Selphie! Now he wishes she had never named a bird after him. He gives a huff and turns away.

"...whatever."

Sorry, Squally, Selphie's just gonna giggle a while and shake her head. Then she poked him at his shoulder. One day, she hoped he'd remember this, just so she could have and I Told You So moment when they ended up back home. "Don't you wanna come see the eggs?"

And he was hoping he would not remember this.

He can't stay annoyed at her and gives in, turning around. "All right."

Selphie lead him to the far corner of the barn where the female chocobos were nesting over the eggs. When Selphie was there, a couple got up from their resting place and went to eat, knowing she would look after them.

"There, see! They're gonna be babies soon!"

They're eggs, all right. Not terribly exciting to Squall. Well, the least he could do was feign interest.

"How do you tell what color they'll hatch into?"

Selphie frowned hard at that, folding her arms tightly across her chest, "If you're talking about those crazy coloured ones, that's just not going to happen."

Whoops. Maybe he shouldn't have said that.

Hopping off his shoulder, Tempest made her way over to the eggs to get a better look at them. She wasn't much bigger than them!

Yeah, well, those chocobos have been tampered with by scientists, and Selphie wants nothing to do with them.

Selphie smiled though as she watched Tempest, and the older chocobos seemed pleased to have her around, "So cute! She'll have new friends soon!"

His chocobo that's only a couple months old is better at making friends than he is.

Squall is okay with that.

"You mean those eggs?"

Poor Squall - cute, but not cute enough. Not as cute as Tempest.

"Uh huh! All born real soon!"

Selphie smiled at the little scene around her, everyone all crowded round the nesting lady chocobos and the eggs. She withdrew slightly and give a big stretch, "Then it'll be super busy in here."

Even busier? As in, what was going on right now was low on the busy scale? Squall was starting to think that running Garden was less work than taking care of a barn full of chocobos.

"I'll take her to come see them then."
