There is a clearing not too into the forest that has obviously gotten some abuse in the past. It sits on the bottom of a hill and much of the vegetation has been burned away; the hill itself looks as if it has been gouged on occasion by something very large.

Right now, it may be obvious what the cause may have been: a large white dragon sits on the edge, though at the moment she seems contented to lounge on her belly, eyes half-closed. Nothing nearly so traumatic as destroying part of the hill is going on right now; instead she is watching over her trainer with a much smaller beast.

N has a sword in hand, though the scabbard is still on it, and he is all but dancing around, blocking as his Zorua lunges at him, swiping at him again and again.

It is all very serious until the fox Pokemon apparently has had enough. The Zorua jumps up and grabs ahold of the scabbard, pulling down on it with a playful growl.

"H-hey! This is not tug of war!" N protests, but he ends up laughing as he tries to wrest the sword away from him.

The voice makes the dragon raise her head, eyeing the place where Duke stands. Duke may hear her voice as she alerts her trainer, simply saying N.

N straightens, though there was nothing actually audible about it, looking first at the dragon and then around until he spots the man. The fox stops struggling, ears perking in curiosity. "Hello?"

Duke blinks once. A consonant? But then the human straightens, and perhaps... An odd name?

He's not really one for saying hello back, but he'll take a careful step forward, and an odd nod-like gesture - more turning his head with the movement to allow a bit more of his neck to be seen.

"... Apologies if intruding. Simply have not seen anything similar before." There is a nod to the white dragon, then a second to the fox.

"That's okay!" N smiles now that he can see him better. "Not many people from other worlds have."

Duke seems... a little unsure at the smiling, but nods a little.

"I suppose I would expect few to know of Passion Cockatrice or Hysteric Purple, the same way." From not being of the same world. Although he doesn't know many who aren't Kritya who have green hair either.

"... Have a name?" He might be asking the other human, but he's also looking in the direction of the white dragon.

"Hysteric Purple?" N asked, curious.

"Oh! I'm N." Reshiram moved her head before N could introduce her.

Reshiram.

"Hmm?" The boy looked at his dragon for a moment, then back at Duke. "Can you hear her?"

"Magic type..." Perhaps it would be simply better to pull his monsterbook out. Hammerspace is a wonderful thing, and here's a book. He flips through pages.

"...N." Duke quietly repeats, then blinks at the significantly longer name of the dragon, then back to the human. "... It is uncommon among your world, as well?"

N peeks at the book curiously, but then looks more excited when Duke confirms. "Yes! You're only one of very few I've met like me!"

Another blink. ".... The same." He turns to a page that looks more or less like this, with some added notes on preferred haunting locations in this location called Tarqaron, and a handful of pencil sketches in the margins.

"A Hysteric Purple. Uncertain where they would have gone, for Tarqaron was held aloft with means that no longer exist..."

"It looks like a ghost type! But you said magic?" N stared at the pages excitedly, now. What a marvelous thing!

"It is of the magic category - they are often referred to as 'ghosts', yes. There are many others of the magic category - golems, element spirits, superstars. There are nine categories - human, beast, bird, magic, plant, aquatic, insect, inorganic, scale. Your friend - I assume that.. Reshiram," carefully pronounced, as if he's not quite sure he'd get it right. "is a friend, appears to be one of the scale category," some more page turning turns up a page like this. Only this one has more notes, like whatever creature it showed was less of an animal - a dragon, the top says - to Duke and more of a person. Duke remains still for an awkward moment after turning to it, before pointing at the small drawings - some flight, some napping, some in mid attack - and the scale detail.

"However... a different sort of scales, if you have any." the last phrase was aimed at Reshiram herself.

Reshiram, too, tilts her neck around to peer at the book.

"That sounds a lot like the categories we have," N mentioned, glancing between the pages and his dragon. "Except Reshiram is what you call Dragon and Fire. There are seventeen major types of Pokemon, which is what she is -- and Krishna, too, though he's a Dark type."

"Hmm." Pokemon. Duke holds the pages so that Reshiram can see the picture too. Krishna. Hmn. "A name with a more imagination than most of those that fill these pages. Aside from those who are of human category, most are simply referred to as monsters."

"... Incorrect in the case of a few - Khroma... was Entelexeia."

"Oh, well... you see, Krishna is his name, but he's what's called a Zorua! They're dark Pokemon that evolve into Zoroarks. And Reshiram -- Reshiram is special, because there's only one of her. So what she is and her name is the same thing."

Then he caught up to the conversation and frowned curiously. "Khroma and Entelexela? What do those mean?"

".... Shape change with... age?" Duke's not quite sure what 'evolve' means. "... So certain... kinds? of pokemon, can grow and change?"

".... She is Khroma." Pointing at the dragon again. "A name, as well, but one she chose, as like as not. Entelexeia..." Pausing, musing.

"Entelexeia are beings who are born from the Aer of Terca Lumireis - what many might call 'magic'. They are created by the planet- as far as I understand - for the express purpose of righting imbalances. No two are identical - during the times before my arrival here, there... was...Khroma, Gusios," Page turning, it looks like a giant turtle. "Belius," A sort of ... fox like creature. "Phaeroh took the shape of a great, flame colored bird - with a tail that ended in pincers. Astal... took the appearance of something smaller yet similar to Belius, but more white and blue. Krones .... is a large creature similar to a jellyfish, of a size that a city is homed inside him, in the air. A young Entelexeia whom I did not learn the name of travels with Brave Vesperia - he takes the form... of a large rainbow scaled whale, large enough to carry a ship through the sky." ... They slowly get more ridiculous sounding.

N attempts to keep up, murmuring the names over to himself. "They sound amazing," he admits, eyeing the pages with wonder. "I wish I could meet them!"

"....." Duke looks at the current page for a long moment. "... I wish they were still alive."

... He's horrible at keeping moods at 'nice', isn't he.

That surprised N, causing his face to fall. "...what happened to them?"

".... Belius was healed by a power toxic to her; she was driven mad and forced others to put her down lest she destroy her city. Astal was hunted and killed for his core; the man who had done the act was killed later. Phaeroh defended Brave Vesperia by distracting the man whom killed Astal, allowing them to approach without being fired upon; he died of his wounds later. Gusios absorbed too much Aer - magic - and was driven mad. To prevent him from turning into an Adephagos, he was slain as well. Khroma..." A pause, a slightly pained one.

"Khroma disagreed with me, and died while I was focused on other tasks."

"...I'm sorry." N looked distraught by the very idea, though he had never met any of them. "That's...terrible."

Duke makes a short agreeing noise, staring hard at the pages. Well. Moodkiller.

"These other creatures...do they still exist?"

[radiantwingedone]

"... In plenty, most often." Duke seems to tear his attention from these darker things. "Some are fairly rare - known as Giganto monsters, and only appear in certain conditions, but most of Terca Lumireis is inhabited by monsters."

That caused N to smile. A world full of monsters, like his own: it comforted him to hear there were more worlds like it.

"I'm glad... that's as it should be, I think." Any other world was severely lacking.

Duke blinks once, slightly startled again. .... They're a little awkwardly similar, or so he's starting to feel.

"... Few of Terca Lumireis would agree with either of us on this, fairly certain." But there's an awkward flicker that might be the start of a smile that's rarely used.

"Really? They don't like them?" What a horrible thought. Monsters -- Pokemon in particular -- tended to be more important in N's mind than people, even if he was slowly but surely working on that prejudice.
