The Doctor Arrives (again)
Who: The Doctor and You
Where: Standard Plaza Drop
When: Late Morning, just before Noon, November 24th
Style: Brackets preferred but I'll match
Status: OPEN
[A rather damp man in a tweed dress jacket and red bow-tie suddenly appears in the plaza next to the corral.
He spins around quickly, observing and taking in the scene before him in a rush of information.
He runs his hand through his hair nervously only to discover that it is wet.]
I'm wet. [He brings his hand down from his head and inspects it. Sniffs it. Then tastes it.]
Correction. [He looks down at the rest of himself and flaps his jacket out a few times as if to get rid of the excess liquid. He begins to straighten his bow-tie.] I'm soaked... [There is a pause.] with salt-water.
And I'm inside a bubble under an ocean next to an enormous piece of coral.
Ooookay. [He claps his hands together and tilts his head to one side and then the other.]
No TARDIS in sight. [He checks his pockets.] Sonic accounted for, that's good. [He removes his sonic screwdriver and takes a reading. There is a green light and an electric buzzing noise for a few seconds. It turns off and he flips the device up to his eyes to inspect the data.]
Well I haven't mis-aimed. There is certainly something odd about this place.
[He places the sonic screwdriver back in his waterlogged pocket.]
So here's a question. [He continues to talk to himself and walks in a semi-circle around the coral.]
Why does this feel oddly familiar?

Why does this feel oddly familiar?

He doesn't contest the explanation, he has seen things more impossible than this. The fact that he may have lost his memory of this place is troubling and a thought that he chooses not to explore at this time.]
Is there any reason for it? It must take an awful lot of resources and energy to kidnap people and hold them here only to release them again. And from different universes and timelines as well.
What could the purpose possibly be? [This last question is more to himself but it's unlikely Darkleer would realize it as such.]
no subject
At least, we are a part of it. Scientists are the reason we have been brought here. You will not meet them here in the city; no one has been able to find them. They have plans of their own, which have something to do with the so called "Curses" which happen here along with the coral in the middle of the plaza.
The locals refer to the coral as Lamufao. They believe it to be a god. I cannot confirm that, but I do know it is a source of great energy. It glows whenever a curse is about to occur, and you must touch it regularly. If you don't, you will find yourself slowly overcome with exhaustion.
no subject
He shakes his head smiling at the thought.]
I don't think I caught your name. I'm the Doctor.
no subject
Darkleer. It is a pleasure.
[He offers one large hand to shake with.]
I suppose I should tell you where we are heading. It will be informative, if little else. Most of the items and housing in Vatheon are free to all foreigners. They simply need to show the tattoo that appears on their body upon arrival. The only exception is the area called the Nostalgia Quarter.
[Nook. Nostalgia Nook is its proper name, which should become apparent when they pass by the sign for it soon. Darkleer refuses to say that, however.]
no subject
I'm the Doctor.
[He had planned to ask more questions, but before he even gets the chance, Darkleer has pressed on with information about their current destination. At the mention of the tattoo, the Doctor begins looking over himself for it.
He doesn't have to search far. When he pulls up his sleeves, he sees the mark on his right forearm.]
A tattoo. That's new. [Upon a moments consideration he seems to decide on something.] Tattoos are cool. [He admires it a few more seconds, holding his arm in front of his face, before paying attention again.]
They certainly have put forth a lot of effort to cater to the visitors.
[He smiles at the comment and as they walk by the sign for the Nostalgia Nook. If the Doctor notices anything, he doesn't say it.]
It's almost like an underwater paradise. [His smile fades a little.] Except for the kidnapping, experiments, and curses.

[He's definitely one of those energetic, flighty people whose mind is everywhere. Darkleer is relatively certain of this just by the energy alone, and the re-introduction clinches it. Still, he doesn't mind. He continues on, leading the way. The shops here are wide and varied in both appearance and merchandise; they cater to all the worlds that foreigners come from, after all, so they should be.]
The kidnapping and other such things are distressing. Fortunately, the curses are often relatively tame. The last one was one of the worst ones in quite a while, but they are often harmless. Embarrassing at worst. Recently, various individuals were turned into animals, or given animal parts.
The invasions are much more pressing.
no subject
[It makes it extra difficult to stay focused seeing all these shops pass by them. His eyes dart to each storefront as they hurry by. He resists the urge to enter one and looks back to Darkleer, the Doctor's countenance becoming more serious as he does so. He's been listening of course, and the mention of invasions easily gets him back on track.
Invasions are never good.]
What kind of invasions?
no subject
[Finally, he seems to find the shop he's looking for. Entering, he makes sure to keep the door open long enough for The Doctor to enter as well. It's obviously a store heavy on technology, all of it cluttered together in a space that doesn't seem big enough for it all. Darkleer quickly goes searching through the various items, motioning for things to add to the price list for the attendant to take note of when he's ready for purchase.]
Fortunately, they aren't common, but one happened recently enough that I prefer keeping an eye out. When I first arrived, a kraken awoke and broke through the bubble and wreck all sorts of areas. Strangely enough, it was soothed by a banjo.
[He doesn't know, don't ask.]
The more recent one was an orb of shadows that could transform. That was unique in that it actually came from another individual's world instead of somewhere here.
no subject
Krakens with a taste for the banjo and a pleomorphic shadow creature. Was it afraid of light?

[Inspecting one item, he makes a small 'tch' beneath his breath and moves on. Eventually, he comes to what he's looking for, a peculiar kind of power source that almost seems more organic than mechanical. Satisfied, he goes to pay for it all, taking his SFC from his belt and removing a card from it.]
The Nostalgia Quarter only accepts payment in the form of tokens. You should have some already with your device. Jobs are available if you wish to get more.
no subject
He pats his pockets finding the communicator. He takes it out and gives it a once over before pocketing it again.
Jobs? There was working in the toy shop that one time, but it was special circumstances. He isn't enthused about the idea of getting a normal job.
Instead he affirms what Darkleer first mentioned, the Doctor's mind hopping about from point to point.]
Karkat Vantas. [He repeats the name to help cement it in his memory.]
That's some kind of power source isn't it?
no subject
[He looks up and holds back from immediately putting it in his sylladex. Instead, he keeps it out. It's not often others immediately identify things he deals with. Not a lot of engineer and technicians in the city it feels like. He's a bit curious now.]
That's right. Something from my homeworld of Alternia. From my observations, most other cultures that Vatheon takes in don't often use biotechnology.
no subject
Do you mind if I... [He takes a few tentative steps closer while gesturing at the item.] had a bit of a look?
no subject
Very well.
[He holds it out to him, carefully.]
Are you familiar with psionics, Doctor?
no subject
I guess you could say I'm familiar with it.
no subject
[It's not the largest piece of technology, but something in the durable material seems to shift slightly at the Doctor's touch. If he's still, he might feel it subtly moving along with a light tingling motion. It's just trying to figure out its surroundings, nothing bad.]
Not too many others seem to have in Vatheon.
no subject
Realizing that it isn't posing him any harm, both his curiosity and smile return. He continues to hold the object.]
I am. Telepathy, phsycic visions, that sort of thing?
no subject
[It's actually a pleasant surprise. He's had to explain the concept to a lot of people while in Vatheon. It gets tiring.]
It's rather common in large portions of our race. Our technology is sometimes designed to handle it.
no subject
[He offers Darkleer his power source back. He doesn't say anything, but he has a goofy grin on his face. It appears as though the Doctor is eager to share something but holding back from spoiling the surprise.]
no subject
[The smile is regarded with a tilt of his head, and then Darkleer goes back to paying for his purchases. Once that is done, he focuses more on retrieving his items. That is to say, he goes to each one in turn, little power source included, and they each begin to disappear. For a brief second for each, cards can be seen but they vanish quick enough. As Darkleer is finishing up, he asks over his shoulder.]
This is all I came for. I will be returning back to my hive, now, although you are welcome to come along if there is anything else you would like to ask. I know I have been somewhat... brisk in my answers.
You show me yours, I'll show you mine.
[The Doctor takes out a metallic cylindrical device approximately ten inches long and holds it out.]
Go ahead. Take a look.
[As soon as Darkleer touches it, it would react slightly to his thoughts, probably opening at one end.]
See now you're definitely propsitioning him. Doctor, please!
[Well, he was given free reign. So Darkleer takes advantage of it, inspecting the little device with all the critical nature an engineer of his standing can muster, which is quite a bit.]
May I ask the purpose of it, or would it be more interesting if I discerned it myself?
No idea what you're talking about.
He claps his hands together.]
It's a sonic screwdriver! Psychic interface! Go ahead! Try it!
[As soon as Darkleer would try, the green light at the end would come to life and a mechanical humming sound would begin.]
Sure you don't, buddy.
This is a positively gorgeous piece of equipment, stunning technology, truly-
[Shifting it to another hand, he holds it to his wrist where it seems to activate another piece of technology he has discovered while in Vatheon, this one made by himself. Information seems to be whirring between the two devices, and Darkleer makes a small little noise in the back of his throat that is nothing short of absolute delight.]
I think I must invite you over, if not today than sometime in the near future, Doctor.
no subject
Thank you. It's nothing really.
[He rocks on his heels a little with his hands in his pockets.]
I'd like to do a little exploring on my own since I just arrived, but I'll definitely take a rain check on that invitation.
