Normally this particularly part of the plaza lays a little quiet and secluded but today there is a difference. The otherwise quiet spot is bustling with activity today, and shall be every first of every month from now on. It sure was a bit of trouble preparing all of this, but no effort was spared. It is for a good cause, after all!

The set up, though fairly simple, has clearly been aimed at making things comfortable for those attending. Broad tables filled with food and drink (and a few locals attending to them to make sure they won't run dry) stand amongst small tables, perfect for a few people to gather around and enjoy the delicacies. Some chairs and benches have been set up too, for those that'd rather sit while talking, but there is still plenty of space for walking around too. Beyond that, there stand at least two booths, one manned by the Welcoming Commitee, armed with replacement flyers, maps, hotel directions and anything a person new to Vatheon might need. They certainly look ready to answer any question that someone might have and then some. The other booth seems just as welcoming, though perhaps a little less on the informative side. This one is manned by Vatheon's very own Host Club. Are they recruiting? Trying to find new customers? Or just here to do their part in welcoming new people to Vatheon? Better check it out and be certain.

Today, the party seems to be dressed up with a rather obvious autumn flair. The tables, chair, benches and table-cloths are dominated by warm, fall colours, and all the food that stands on the tables has a very definite fall flavouring; apple and pumpkin pies stand side by side, with caramel apples near by and what looks to be a mass of cookies. But there are soups too, warm and hearty for those that want them. And lets not forget the drinks. The locals are tireless in refilling the cups so there is never anyone lacking some warm tea or warm chocolate, cider, or just plain old apple juice. Ask and you shall most definitely receive!

No, actually, I'm not. I thought a little about it when I got here but lately I've been thinking a lot more about it. One of my friends, who happens to be part of the Force, was killed recently.

He's come back now.[He mentions it to ease Link's concern. He doesn't particularly want to talk about it.]

Are you a member?

Uh huh, I am. And that happened a lot lately. [Link lets out a sigh, suddenly rather more gloomy.] One of my friends was killed, too, and another got really hurt. It might be good to have more people to look out for others.

[Having had a rather depressing conversation with Zelda, Malik is not inclined to belabor the topic, but it's hard to avoid.]

I'm sorry about your friends. [There is a small pause of respect for those who have suffered.]

So tell me about the Defense Force. Should I join it?

[Link gives him a tight little smile, then nods.] I think you should. Mostly, we just do patrols and make sure that everyone is okay, and if someone needs help, we help them or call others. It's a good thing to do.

Sign me up then. Maybe I can put some of my skills to work here. Who knows how long we'll be here, right?

[He takes the liberty of taking another piece of pie.]

[...Yeah, Link's not really getting in to that one. In his case, it's 'forever' or 'not at all', and the latter is not a fun thought.]

Right! You need to talk to Serph or Squall about it, they'll work out what you should do.

[He nods as his mouth is currently full of pie. When he finishes, he speaks again.]

I've met Serph, he's a little intimidating. I don't know Squall.

Yeah, he can be. [Seriously, he eats people. That is pretty intimidating.] And I don't really know him either, but Serph said he's the other person who runs it.

[He doesn't know about the eating people part, but he did transform into a demon right in front of Malik.]

I'll get in touch with one of them then. Thanks for the information, and the pie!

[Also intimidating! Two for two, Serph.]

[He smiles.]

That's good! [Link gives him a sunny grin back.] Have fun for the rest of the day, okay?

[Malik smiles back. It's not sunny, but it's certainly a very pleasant one.]

I will. Enjoy your snacks!

You too! [Link waves him off, then takes a bite of one of the cookies and settles back to wait for more people.]
