secret tunnel thru the mountain

Characters: [community profile] vatheon + an eventual mystery guest star
Location: island + new area
Time: all week starting monday
Style: any
Status: open - threadhop & theadjack away

[ after the kicked up damage wrought by yami in the south forest quadrant settles down and becomes surveyable by monday, characters are in for a little— or, well, a big surprise that is the secret research facility. the entrance of it is easy enough to find, thanks to the destruction— although a lot of the research facility itself is destroyed as well. the power still works, at least! although whatever network it had seemingly been hooked up to is currently (and likely permanently) offline.

near the ENTRANCE of the facility, characters will likely find a very large chart on one of the walls— it resembles a map with handwritten annotations and will undoubtedly prove useful in further exploration. there's nothing else interesting near the entrance, sans for a few empty desks and a trash bin full of what appears to be torn up employee information of some sort. the other areas that can be found will be as follows:

DORMS

↪ pretty self-explanatory, although they are extremely minimalistic and completely abandoned. it's likely that the scientists made use of these— some of the beds seem a bit unkempt, as though they were recently used; whereas some rooms have full garbage bins with various papers. many of them are unuseful or flat-out irrelevant, others appear to be outdated schedule data— the dates on most of the papers seem to be from a little over a year ago. basically, the bins are filled with what they were made for— trash.

VARIOUS LABS

↪ deeper into the facility, it's obvious that quite a lot of research had been being conducted within— multiple rooms seem to be arranged for just that purpose. most of the rooms are empty or have a lot of strewn tools within them as though they were emptied in a hurry. although one room in particular was left as it was; it's both locked and blocked off though, and might take a little force in order to get into. once inside, a completely white room will be found that might feel familiar to people who had been directly involved in a strange event that had happened quite a while ago... the room is slightly less white than any "experiments" might remember, however. in fact, there seems to be quite a bit of dried blood about the place. the blood can be found on nearly everything in the room— the table accompanied with surgical tools, the cabinet filled with both syringes and old vials of a blue fluid, and a prominent list visible on one of the walls.

MAIN LAB

↪ one lab in particular found further within the facility appears to be bigger and better than all the others— it's also the only lab with a multitude of computers. due to the power being on, computers will be responsive— although because whatever network they once runned on is no longer online, the only data accessible is offline data found within any harddrives or memory devices.

and there is plenty of that. however, any data found is heavily encrypted and unlike anything ever seen before, so even a normally excellent hacker will have a problem getting past the security walls; and the only file that can be opened immediately seems to make no sense whatsoever:

w3spEvU3

furthermore, nearly everything resembling paper evidence has been torn or shredded, as evident by the completely empty and ajar file cabinets— not to mention the fact that there are plenty of scraps of unreadable paper strewn across some parts of the floor.

SUBMARINE EXIT

↪ in the deepest part of the lab is a peculair hallway that seems to drop downward— which is curious, since the facility is located so closely on the edge of the island itself. although everything becomes clear should one reach the room near the end of the lowering hallway— a majority of the equipment is damaged, but it is indeed a submarine exit of some sort. could this be how all of the scientists left so suddenly..? in fact, most of the submarines are missing— sans for one, but it's quite old and probably nonfunctional in its current state. you're fully allowed to try and fix it, but it will take both a team of people and several weeks.

CONTAINMENT UNIT

↪ also in the deeper part of the facility, although closer to the main lab than the submarine exit, is a completely closed off area— mechanical doors and a digital lock that seems to be online block all from entering. the door seems to open automatically for a keycard, but there's also an emergency override function— that activates via a password. blinking in an almost mocking fashion, it prompts you:

[Darkleer is often used to being ignored. It's rarely intentional, after all. Simply a side affect of his peculiar ability to be just a... void. Something people glance through and practically forget. Not quite true invisibility but quite close enough.]

[This also generally lets him catch people letting their guard down. Or behaving in... strange ways.]

[So, Roxy, have one large hulking troll that somehow didn't seem to be there before just... staring at you.]

[Just. staring.]

[Oh wait now he's talking.]

...Excuse me?

[He is also working on one of the machines as well, determined to wrestle something from within it.]
oceanbreasts: (this is the part where your dad goes off)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ Man screw you just because she doesn't have her void powers down yet doesn't mean you can just go showing off--

Roxy jumps at the voice, but she doesn't let go of the machine. Instead, she just lifts her head to look up over the top of the monitor so she stare back.

What. ]

Hold on a sec. Me 'n the machinery are havin' a moment if you don't mind.
aim_exorable: (what no ♐ Because once I start)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Staring contest?]

As a matter of fact, I unfortunately do mind. Unless you are communicating with the machinery with a peculiar brand of psionics, I am afraid I am rather busy trying to crack these insufferable codes. Distractions aren't needed.

[He's already documented what he could, even that which doesn't make sense, but it's what has been hidden away that truly interests him.]
oceanbreasts: (hear the bass skinny waist)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Shh, yes, that's 'zactly what's happenin. It's speakin to me.

[ NOW BE QUIET SO SHE CAN LISTEN.

If she had cat ears, though, one of them would have twitched at the words crack and codes and Roxy eventually unwraps herself from the machine to come over and take a look. By which I mean she promptly leans over Darkleer's shoulder to stare closer at the screen.

Her eyes dart over the text that's there, trying to piece together the mess. ]

Whaddya got so far?
aim_exorable: (interest ♐ I need your discipline)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
...Oh.

[Okay. A part of him is almost suspicious, considering she appears slightly... off, but another part of him points out that stranger things have happened and stranger people have been met, so he awkwardly doesn't bring up the subject much more, instead returning to his work.]

[When she invades his space, he starts to shift a bit but stops at the question.]

Not very much, I am afraid. Despite my displeasure at being one of their little experiments, I must admit that they are quite good at what they do. The network is no long online, so I only have access to hardware. That is all very heavily encrypted; I have been alive for a long time and have rarely seen such displays.

There is only one thing I am capable of opening- [He brings up the "w3spEvU3" file.] Without going through so much aggravating hassle.

There are some fairly interesting scraps of paper, if you would care to pick some up. Has anyone told you of Doctor Alpha?
oceanbreasts: (but he never comes back and 17 years)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Can't say the ol' doc is ringing any bells.

[ Roxy finally moves away, glancing down at the papers she's just now noticing strewn across the floor. She leans down to pick one up while absently reaching out to turn the computer next to his on.

If there are codes to crack, you better believe she is on that shit like flies on honey. ]

What is all this? And... the hell, is this blood?
aim_exorable: (weary ♐ And you)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. That isn't surprising. Well, allow me to inform you, then.

[As he speaks, his fingers don't stop working at the machine. When you get to his ripe old age, you learn to multitask.]

Quite a while ago, there were two important local individuals in Vatheon, long before we were able to get up to the island itself. One was apparently a priestess of Lamufao named High Priestess Thalassino. She was connected to a church that used to be where the elevator is now, but that was destroyed, and she went missing. Not many months ago, an individual named Carol inquired to her whereabouts.

The other important individual was Doctor Alpha. He ran the medical building before this... Head Nurse came along. He encouraged the building of the elevator and seemed to know a great deal more than he let on. However, he went missing as well... seemingly in connection with these scientists.

And yes. I believe there may be quite a bit of blood about the premises. It would not be surprising.

[His voice starts to turn increasingly bitter.]

We are all mere experiments here, Miss. That became apparent when we were first granted access to the island and discovered paperwork on us. I could not tell you, at present, whether or not the scientists are responsible for the curses and Lamufao itself, or if they simply discovered Lamufao and have set up stations to document its peculiar effects on unsuspecting guinea pigs.

Initially, I believe that was all, the curses. However, once we were granted access to the island.. Around the end of October, foreigners were kidnapped. Experiments were done to them, although I could not tell you the details of that, either.

At one point, they may have been passive. But now, they are most certainly our enemies.

[A low rumbling growl in his throat.]

I swear I am going to find out what they did to Gamzee...
oceanbreasts: (I'm mad really bad)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Roxy's face turns darker the more he speaks, and she closes her hand around the piece of paper she's holding before chucking it over her shoulder, grumbling. Experiments. That's what she likes to hear about! Definitely. For sure. Totally not aggravating or hitting a little too close to home at all!

She takes a seat in front of the now on computer and stares at him, her lip curling upward. ]

Guess we'll jus' have t'see if we can't find a little damagin' info, then!

[ She cracks her knuckles, first opening that same file with the jumble of letters and numbers, w3spEvU3, before she starts to let her fingers fly across the keyboard. ]
aim_exorable: (bruiser ♐ I need your help)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[He pauses for only a brief second before giving just the slightest smirk.]

I hope you are quite skilled, then. Have you ever done something collaborative?
oceanbreasts: (cause it sells to be a slut)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Tch'yea I am! Totally hot at this.

[ And despite appearances... there's a subtle change to her eyes, now that she's sitting in front of one of the computers. They've hardened a little, sure, but they're focused to a point. This certainly doesn't look like a drunk teenage girl anymore.

But she's still definitely drunk.

Her eyes slide sideways, briefly, and she sort of grins. ]

Never been around anyone else t' ever do anythin' collaborative. New 'sperience for me!
aim_exorable: (at ease ♐ I see you left a mark)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well then-

[A quick flickering view of his sylladex, and numbers, and then he's pulling a wire out from a captchalogue card. Connecting it quickly to his own computer, he slides it over to Roxy.]

May as well make the best of it, hm?
oceanbreasts: (WOAH. WOAH. *WOAH*.)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Aw hells yeah.

[ Roxy finishes the set up and settles back into her seat, grinning despite herself. ]

Nice sylladex, by the way. Show you mine later.

[ WONK ]
aim_exorable: (studious ♐ How many times did you)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[...Is that an innuendo? Please don't wink at him.]

Just something to keep me sharp. Now then, let us see if we cannot tear this system apart.

[He is perhaps smiling just slightly despite himself; in all honesty, he is most content when he has a cause to throw himself behind, work to do.]
oceanbreasts: (and doesn't even know your fucking name)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ yes and she winks at everyone ]

Right there with ya big boy.

[ momentary pause ]

Which one are you anyway? Did we talk when I got here?

[ It'd probably be a good idea to know who she's working with... ]
aim_exorable: (query ♐ Crack a window)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hm? Oh, yes. Darkleer.

[He's a bit focused on this task, don't mind him.]

And Miss Lalonde, correct?
oceanbreasts: (feeling like Winehouse)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Got it.

[ THAT'S ALL SHE NEEDED. Roxy promptly falls quiet, the only sound coming from her station being the tap tap tap of her fingers across the keyboard.

Untill-- ]

Fuckin' A did they code this shit with magic 'n unicorns 'n fuckin' voodoo or what.
aim_exorable: (tinker ♐ A beauty calm and clear)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Fine by him. Darkleer is pleased with the arrangement as much as he can be. When he hears her, he just chuckles but keeps working.]

I told you they made it quite a challenge.
oceanbreasts: (but he never comes back and 17 years)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-14 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, y'said a challenge. Not fuckin'--

[ ARLKFH GRUMBLE MUTTER

She complains a lot but, y'know, she's actually secretly very happy about this. The last thing she tried to hack in to, she's actually pretty sure was basically an open door, so a challenge is welcome.

...Doesn't mean she can't bitch. ]
aim_exorable: (prearrange ♐ I know what people say)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-14 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My apologies, then.

[He's still smirking, so maybe that apology falls just a bit flat.]

I suppose I should have called it something more like a binary hydra with a rather disagreeable attitude and a tendency to hoard rather nearly offensive amounts of data treasure.
oceanbreasts: (I'm out the door)

[personal profile] oceanbreasts 2012-08-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
That. That right there. That is so totes more accurate.

[ And kind of a fun analogy, too. She's going TREASURE HUNTING now. Jake would be proud. ]

I think I might be close on this'un here...
aim_exorable: (studenty ♐ Caught up in your bliss)

[personal profile] aim_exorable 2012-08-16 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad it pleases.

[Click click click tap tap- wait, which one now? Darkleer quickly zeroes in on what he believes she is referring to.]

I see what you mean. Good. Let's see if we cannot just...

[Time to wear it down, break it apart, slip through the cracks. Even a little bit of information would be good.]
