He was killing himself. He could feel it in the intense pain that exploded across his think pan like someone was jabbing two culling forks through his eye sockets and then wiggling them around inside his brain.

He was sure he had killed himself. He sort of hoped he had killed himself, because living with that kind of damage was going to suck serious hoofbeast testicles.

And then he'd expected to hopefully find himself safe and sound in the bubbles, where he could spend eternity reliving the few good moments he'd had in his short life and leave the universe-saving and misery to someone else. What he hadn't expected was a whole lot of water, and confusion and a lot of voices, none of which were familiar. It sounded like he'd suddenly landed himself in the middle of a city.

Frightened and confused, he pushed himself up, coughing up a lungful of sea water and yellow blood, and felt around helplessly, searching for something, anything familiar. "Hello?" he called out, but not too loud. Karkat, Kanaya, Terezi and Gamzee had been right there. Why wasn't anyone saying anything to him?

"What happened?"

"Really?" Sollux nearly stops dead, shocked. "You've met kk?"

"I have. He's here, in this place. If you like, I can call him for you, once we're at the clinic."

"And you like him?" Sollux sounds completely incredulous.

"We're very close, yes." Signless finds this reaction pretty amusing.

Sollux snickers faintly, leaning a little more on Signless. "Wow, I'm in a mirror world or something. Adults being nice, and KK has real friends."

It's probably a good thing Sollux can't see Signless right now, or he'd be even more thrown.

"We're at the clinic now. There's three stairs right in front of you. We'll take them slow and easy."

He'll figure it out eventually.

He nods and slowly takes the stairs, feeling his way out and clinging to Signless. "I thought all of the trolls were dead except us."

Perhaps sooner rather than later.

"We're all taken from different points in history. The younger trolls call it timeline shenanigans. I'm from what would be the past to you."

Signless bypasses the nurses in the waiting room and heads right for one of the exam rooms, finding a cot and leading Sollux towards it.

"You're doing so well, just a little further. Okay, there's a cot right in front of you. I'm going to help you lay down on it, all right?"

"Oh," Sollux says, his head turning from side to side nervously as he tries to identify the unfamiliar sounds of this place. "How many of my friends are here?"

Signless tries to gently assist the younger troll in laying down; he knows that he'll feel better, at least, once Sollux is off his feet.

"Quite a few, actually. Karkat, Nepeta, Gamzee, Aradia, Feferi, Eridan, Kanaya... Tavros and Equius. I believe that's all of them." He's left out Vriska, but only because he hasn't met her yet.

Sollux' jaw drops, though he lets Signless manoeuvre him and lies down obediently. "They're all alive? Uh, I guess from different points in time?"

He does feel better lying down on this weird soft rectangle, but he's still nervous. He feels around, feeling the rail beside him, and trying to understand what sort of place this is.

"Yes. Everyone is from a different time point, it seems, although some of them line up fairly closely."

Signless pulls over the doctor's stool and takes a seat, staying near enough that Sollux can reach out and touch him if he cares to. "We're in a medical center right now. The nurses will come and look at you soon, I believe."

He nods and when he touches Signless, he leaves his hand there, curling his fingers around his bicep lightly. He feels stupid, like a grub clinging to his lusus - and doing that was never a safe thing to do with his lusus - but he just needs to know where Signless is.

"I don't know if there's anything anyone can do, anyway. I just strained my thinking sponge."

Signless holds his arm still, having absolutely no problem with Sollux wanting to hold onto him, and gently pats the top of the young troll's hand.

"You lost a lot of blood. You probably need a transfusion."

And what a coincidence, he knows someone with the exact same blood!

"A transfusion?" He grimaces. "I hope you've got a mustardblood around, then. Though really, I could just pass out for a week or so. I'm sure I'll heal..."

Is there a thread of nervousness in him? He's not sure he's completely cool with the idea of someone sticking a big needle into him.

"As it so happens, I do." He squeezes Sollux's hand. "He might even be able to get the blood in you without using a needle."

"...I'm not scared of needles." Much. He's more nervous of doctors. "Is he coming here?"

"Let me send him a message, and I'm sure he'll be here shortly."

Signless gives Sollux's hand another squeeze, then pulls out his SFC and sends the following message to Psii: CAN YOU MEET ME AT THE CLINIC, PLEASE? I'M FINE, BUT THERE'S SOMEONE HERE WHO COULD USE YOUR HELP. YOU KNOW HOW KARKAT IS MY DESCENDANT? I'M PRETTY SURE YOURS JUST SHOWED UP, AND HE'S HURT.

"There. He should be here soon."

Signless looks over the grievously wounded young troll. "Can I help you clean some of that blood off?"

There, you finally found something to pry him away from trashy television. Good job, Signless, but did it really have to be using his grievously injured descendent?

Sollux can't read the message, but he listens as he types on what he guesses is some kind of PDA. He grimaces and nods at the question. "Yeah, I guess? I feel absolutely disgusting."

He's a little nervous, though he doesn't want to admit it aloud. What if his ancestor thought he sucked? He was blind and a mutant and basically in all ways lame. Judging by what little he knew about Mindfang, Dualscar, and Redglare, ancestors were something to look up to. And this Signless guy might not seem like much, but he sure was being nice so far.

THANK YOU, PSII. I'LL TAKE CARE OF HIM UNTIL THEN.

Signless puts away his SFC then, and turns his attention to Sollux. He gently removes the hand from his arm and stands up. "Give me just a moment, I'm going to get a water basin and some towels. I won't leave the room if I don't have to, so you can keep talking to me if you wish."

Fortunately, the room has a little sink in it, as well as a supply of clean, fluffy white towels, and Signless doesn't have to go far before he's sitting beside Sollux again, dunking a towel in the hot water and wringing it out.

"I'm going to start with your face, okay? Let me know if I'm hurting you or making you uncomfortable in any way."

Sollux listens as Signless moves about, keeping track of his location as best he can. He's nervous about where he is and what's going on, but it could be worse. He nods and takes off Feferi's goggles, popping them into his captchalogue for safe keeping.

"I'm not a wiggler, jeez. I can take a little pain."

"I know you're not."

It's just probably going to be more than a little pain, judging by those gaping black holes where his eyes used to be. Signless starts on his forehead, gently and carefully wiping the dried, crusted yellow blood off his pallid skin and out of his hair. The more blood he wipes away, the more Sollux looks like Psii, and Signless falls into contemplative silence.

Sollux bites his lip and tries not to flinch as Signless wipes at his face, especially around the eyes. He doesn't say anything, though, waiting for Signless to be done as he resists the urge to whimper in pain.

Signless is being as careful as he can, but that still has to hurt. Maybe if he distracted Sollux, he won't notice the pain as much.

"What happened to you? How did you hurt yourself?"
