[It's not that unusual to see Izaya looking happy. It's just unusual to see him lugging so much shit with him. Okay, it's not a lot, but by his standard- it's too much.

There's a telescope slung around his shoulder, a blanket under the other arm, and then a basket filled with who knows what, probably heads of dullahans or something, in his spare hand.

He's peering up at the bubble as he makes his way towards the elevator.

When. Oh no. A book that had been crammed into the top of the basket topples out. The tragedy.

But look.

Izaya keeps walking. Wow, his attention must be elsewhere pretty intense. And what is that book anyway? It looks weird. Are those instructions on human sacrifice------!!!

Actually it's just a fairy tale. But who can read kanji anyway? Aw look at the fairies-]

[Though Ion had been warned against interacting with Izaya, he hadn't moved out. It's true that the little Fon Master spends less time there during the day now (a lot of his time is occupied with Sola, who had moved out), but he hasn't left. He cares for Izaya and Laharl, even if most everyone else would probably tell him not to. They lived together, so they were family in Ion's mind. It's just that simple.

He's on his way back from visiting when he sees Izaya drop a book and keep on walking. Ion picks it up, trotting to keep up with him.]

You dropped this!

[Luckily for the little guy, Izaya hasn't really noticed. He's been busy as ever getting back to work doing what he does best- and. Well. Who knows what that is, right? So he hasn't been around much either.

Hell, he hadn't even noticed that Sola had moved out. Although that would change soon enough.

Izaya hears Ion trotting after him and slows down to a stop. Oh. He smiles instantly.]

Ion. [You're so sweet. He takes the book from his roommate.]

Thanks. I would have been pretty upset if I had lost that. What are you doing out so late?

[He can spare a minute or two to converse, right?]

[This guy just picks up the book and doesn't even look at it, holding it out.]

Here.

It's not that late, it's just barely dark after all.

[Ion doesn't really want to say where he's been, because that is an incredibly awkward topic... this is probably the first time he's acted like he's trying to conceal something from Izaya.]

What about you? Are you going to go stargazing?

[It is a bit unusual to see Shinra wandering around outside his apartment at this time of day but there he is, peering at some tendrils of the Lamufao in a corner of the plaza.

At least until he notices a certain informant struggling with a giant pile of crap. He traces Izaya's steps and picks up the book he left on the ground, observing the title on its spine.

Human Sacrifice....

Well, it's not the worst thing he's ever caught Izaya with. Nonetheless, a raised eyebrow meets the informant at the elevator doors.]

Big plans tonight?

Aw yeah but that's pretty late for kids, isn't it?

[Haha. No. No it's not and he knows that. But he's supposed to be representing a father figure or something akin to that over Ion, right?

....Oh.

Oh Ion. Please don't do that--

But it's too late. His eyes brighten and he seems to have noticed because he's turning to face Ion more completely.]

Mmm. No. Fishing. [Sarcasm. Did you know?]

Yeah. I wanted to see if there was anything to see up on the island. Constellations that are familiar or anything like that.

[Was someone talking to him? Izaya pauses and glances over his shoulder.

And stops. He stares for a moment because-]

Is that mine? [Oh look, it is. He frowns and walks over to the guy.] Ahhh. Thanks!

[The joy. The sheer excitement. He snatches the book back and grins joyously.]

I feel so irresponsible. Nya. Clumsy.

That sounds nice. May I come along? We come from different planets after all, perhaps even if you do not recognize the stars I might.

[He's just smiling happily about it, having no idea that this is likely to result in a grilling session.]

[Oh hey familiar voice. You warrant a rather genuine smile from Izaya.]

You bet. I plan on watching the end of the world. Front row seat.

[He pats the telescope but then his smile cracks into something a bit wider.]

Actually. Just looking for familiar constellations. Oh. Hey.

[Pointing to the book.]

That's mine. Are you trying to steal from me, Shinra? That's awful of you. [Pouting because how could you do that to such an innocent fellow?]

[And that's pretty much what Izaya sees it as- so with a pleasant smile, he nods.]

Sure you can. We haven't gotten to spend a lot of time together lately so it would be nice.

[Although. He has to admit.]

That's a really good idea. Ion, you're a pretty smart guy.

[And proceeding to the elevator they go.]

So. [Elevator jerks up.] Were you on a hot date?

A-a date?!

[He shakes his head vigorously. Izaya, he is two and what is this?! Ion swallows, not wanting to outright lie about where he was but finding the situation to be completely undesirable.]

No. I was... visiting Sola.

Uh huh.

[He doesn't look two to him and what is age anyway. Then he looks a bit surprised.]

Ah? How is he doing? Where is he living now anyway? It's a shame he feels he can't live with me anymore. It's so sad what other people have to say about me.

[Aw. Izaya looks very much heart broken over this. Like he has real feelings or something.]

[...wow, less than a minute in and already Squall has deemed him obnoxious.]

What are you even doing?

[Not gonna lie, he's somewhat impressed that Izaya can carry all that and drop only a single book.]

[What is obnoxious.]

Hm? [Sorry, he was busy admiring your sweet jacket.] I'm going up to the island. To try and look for familiar constellations in the sky. See if I can try and pinpoint where we might be. I don't have a lot of hope. I also just like stars.

[Shrrrrrrrrug. He fiddles around a bit, tucking his book back into the basket before he promptly offers his hand.]

Orihara Izaya. We haven't met before, have we?

[It's highly possible that Izaya knows exactly what was said, considering that it happened on his doorstep. Ion is relieved that he doesn't have to say "Sola moved out".]

He is doing better. Zelda really means a lot to him, though. He isn't taking it well. But it's not Sola's fault that he had to go! There's someone taking care of him right now.

Hmmmmm. Who?

[Ion, you might as well just spill this all out. Izaya will find out eventually. He has his ways.]

Does Sola hate me? [Frowning forever.] I was going to talk to him but it seemed like everyone wanted me to stay far away from him after. For some reason.

I'm a little doubtful that the apocalypse is upon us. Have you been pirating Celty's sci-fi specials or something?

[Izaya's smiling at him. That's a little suspicious.]

Astronomy...that's a new one.

[Even more suspicious. He smirks in return and thumbs through the pages of the book in question.]

I might be doing the world a favor by keeping the secrets to ritual homicide out of your hands.

[He shakes his head vigorously.]

He doesn't hate you, but he said that, ah...

[Should... he say other people's names like this? Usually he wouldn't, but people talking about his friends makes him upset. Izaya should know that people are displeased with him, anyway. Ion decides to go ahead with it.]

That Signless and Zelda seemed very angry with you.

If only I were naive as someone who has had hundreds of years to grow knowledgeable...

[No it's not. Izaya smiles at everyone. You know. Like. How. A wolf smiles at a deer.]

Aw, what, I can't pick up a new hobby? This bubble can get pretty boring, Shinra.

[That's actually not true in the slightest but this actually was pretty legit. Izaya had some informative reasons behind this.]

Luckily for you, and Vatheon I guess, homicide might as well be impossible here. Also, are you insinuating that I would kill someone? You have no faith in me.

[Oh hey, he's right in front of Shinra now and snatching that book out of his hand. It's. Fairy tales.

Jerk.]

It's Peter Pan. [Look. He even slides off the cover to reveal the famous children's book. So what if he has some sketchy notes inside that are seriously irrelevant to Peter Pan.]

A guy has to hide his embarrassing secrets somehow, right, Shinra?

[Signless? Well that's a new name. He tilts his head entirely to the side and just as he does that, the elevator comes to a stop.]

Who's Signless? I don't think I know him.

[He steps out of the elevator and onto the island.]

And I don't really care if Zelda is mad at me or not. I'm not really her biggest fan so. She was the reason for a lot of bad things to happen.

Anyway. I don't understand why everyone's mad at me.

He's the one taking care of Sola. He's a troll, and generally a kind person.

[Ion steps out after him, smiling a little.]

I think it's because Sola is so young. An adult influencing a child to jump from a building is not something that most people smile upon. What they seem to be forgetting is that you jumped, too...

[The rest of the statement is left unspoken. He doesn't think that they should judge Izaya so harshly if he was in a bad enough place that he himself also took the leap.]

A troll? Huh. One of those.

[Izaya hadn't paid them much mind before. But now, after one had sort of talked to him, he turned his head more than before.]

Mmm. That's okay. People tend to forget a lot of things.

[He looks up at the sky and for a moment, appears perfectly distant.]

It doesn't matter though. When you do a lot of bad things people tend to just ignore anything bad that happens to you or they say that you deserve it. That's just how things work. Heh. I don't really think anyone cared that I jumped. Because I wasn't the one who hit the ground.

[Another indifferent shrug and he starts to walk along, eyes darting around the sky. It...didn't look familiar at all. But he wasn't that great with constellations to begin with.]

You could really learn a thing or two from someone as patient and kind as Celty. Actually, you probably couldn't. You're a bit of a lost cause as far as that's concerned.

[He can smile all he wants, but it's giving Shinra a serious case of the creeps.]

Have you considered that there are no people in space? Seems a bit dull, given your interest in humanity.

[Read: freakish obsession. And coming from a guy who's fawned over a dullahan for twenty years, that should hurt a little.]

You can't really blame me for insinuating what I do with a track record like yours, now can you?

[He lets the book slip out of his grasp and peers skeptically at the revealed title, a hand adjusting the frame of his glasses. Why the hell is Izaya reading Peter Pan? Still suspicious.]

You keep embarrassing secrets from me, your oldest and dearest friend? Oh, I'm so hurt.

[He's mocking Izaya a little bit. Just a little.]

I don't think I really want to learn anything from a spineless door mat. You're so mean, Shinra. I'm a very patient guy. You can't deny that.

[He's waited for things for a very, very long time. And for the great benefit of himself but of course.]

Have you considered that we have been transported to another dimension that has beings of obviously different species than our own?

[Deadpan. You idiot. He's not offended in the slightest]

Anyway, I can enjoy the simple beauty of stars.

[Tch.]

Oh, but I can, Shinra. I'd like to know my body count, eh? I'm pretty sure I never killed anyone in Ikebukuro.

[Selection of words. He's killed people in Vatheon. Sort of. But Shinra doesn't need to know that.]

Well when my oldest and dearest friend is so very daft and critical of me, you can hardly blame me!

[That's okay. Izaya can take it.]

I cared.

[His sincerity is the sort that just can't be faked. Ion did care that Izaya jumped whether he actually hit the ground or not - because the feelings that were behind such an action were present regardless.]

"Bad" is a relative term, anyway. Most people follow the course of action that they feel benefits them, that is not inherently bad.
