[If any Vatheonite takes the time today to take a look around the castle, they will find a very, very grumpy fairy godmother fluttering around.

Look, it's Carol, in full-costume and fluttering her wings and looking very sour indeed.]

Play along, he says. Grant wishes, he says. Ugh!

[She looks like she might snap that wand, oops. But she's also fluttering next to a crude, poorly done sign that says Quests for heroes!

...Maybe she'll give you a quest if you go talk to her?

[Lloyd's expression becomes serious at this news. He steps forward, pulling off a glove before reaching for Guy's wrist to feel for a fever and check his pulse.]

Is he sick? How long has he been like this?

[fonmaster]

[Guy isn't sick, only sleeping. Ion looks away.]

As long as I remember, he has slept. I was told that a hero can wake him with a kiss.

[Why is it that Ion can't remember Guy being awake? He considers him a friend, so they must have spoken at some point...]

[As far as he can tell, Guy feels perfectly healthy. His pulse is slow and steady, what he'd expect from someone asleep. He frowns and looks up.]

Only a hero...? Then he must be under a curse. Dammit, whoever the witch or wizard is responsible for all of this, they need to be stopped!

[A slight pause. An awkward glance.]

What kind of hero does he need?

[fonmaster]

[Ion looks a little afraid when Lloyd mentions stopping the witch or wizard. He doesn't want people to have to fight!]

Ah, umm...

[redcladidealist]

[...why are you not telling him what kind of hero Guy needs to wake up? Lloyd's brow furrows again as he looks at Ion more closely. Is it just his imagination, or does the girl seem suddenly nervous?]

You said someone told you. What else did they say?

[fonmaster]

[Now he is nervous. He can't entirely remember what it was the huntsman told him.]

I-I don't remember. My mind is a little hazy, I'm sorry. All I know is that the people who have tried so far have failed.

[It feels like he has pieces of a puzzle in his hand. A man under a curse, a girl at his side, stammered explanations that don't explain at all, and a nervousness that doesn't seem to fit. Why is she so afraid of Lloyd asking questions about how to help?

Unless...

An uneasy suspicion worms into his gut.]

Were you there each time someone tried?

[Ion perks up. There's something he can answer! He nods eagerly.]

Yes, I was!

[It's still only a suspicion, but it's just as he thought.]

Maybe someone should take him somewhere else to try.

[He's watching you, Ion, waiting to see how you react to the suggestion of someone taking Guy out of range.]

[fonmaster]

[With alarm, of course.]

Somewhere else...? Wait, you mean away from me? No!

[What if something happens to Guy? What if someone tries to take advantage of him?!]

[Only driving the suspicion deeper. Lloyd folds his arms. Last chance, Ion.]

Not even to save him?

[fonmaster]

You think I'm the one keeping him asleep?

[Ion's eyes grow to roughly the size of dinner plates.]

I don't think I am. Do you? If it would wake him up, then maybe we could try it.

[The admission eases some of Lloyd's suspicion, though not all of it. But if the girl was the witch who'd cast the spell in the first place, wouldn't she try to keep Lloyd from taking Guy at all? Maybe she really was just a concerned friend.

Though her presence might still be keeping Guy from waking up. Maybe that was part of the curse.]

I don't know. I don't know how curses work. But if a hero's supposed to be the one to wake him up, maybe only the hero should be there at all.

[A slight pause. A final test.]

As a Knight of the realm, I am considered a hero by many people. I could take him with me and try to wake him myself.

[fonmaster]

[Ion doesn't want to be away from Guy, but Lloyd could be right. He looks directly at Lloyd seriously.]

Swear to me you won't let him be harmed, then. He is a dear friend.

[If Lloyd doesn't look believable, well... Ion is fairly certain he knows some magic. He'll just have to fight him.]

[If Ion had demanded anything less, Lloyd would have become suspicious again. He meets her eyes just as seriously, placing his fist on his heart.]

I swear on my honor and my life, I mean no harm to your friend. I'll do everything in my power to protect him while he is in my care.

[fonmaster]

[Lloyd looks sincere. He looks back at Guy one last time before nodding.]

Very well, sir knight. I hope you can wake him up.

[redcladidealist]

[Lloyd gives a solemn nod of acknowledgment, then offers an encouraging smile.]

Don't worry. Anything is possible if you try. We'll find a way to break the spell.

[He kneels to slide his arms beneath the sleeping young man. Oof. Lloyd's pretty strong, but Guy is still heavy. Lloyd manages to stand up, though.]

Who should I call for if it doesn't work?

My name is Ion. Please call me if it doesn't work, alright?

[He offers Lloyd a small smile.]

I'm Lloyd. And I will.

[He dips his head, both in greeting, promise, and farewell. Then he turns and carries Guy out of the castle, intent on taking him back to his humble abode.

...which is where it's finally going to sink in that he's just promised to kiss a guy.

For all the good it does. Sorry, Guy, but even Lloyd's kiss just can't wake you up.
