All bubbles pop eventually

Yesterday was a day of celebration. For once, it seemed that the foreigners were able to affect the coral, and in a positive way at that. The coral lit back up, the barrier strengthened, and everything looked like it was back to normal again.

Unfortunately, it doesn't last.

Overnight the coral begins to dim again, flickering wildly along with the bubble itself. Those who stayed up on the island might notice the strange lights coming up through the waves if they're awake. The ones who stayed in the bubble will notice more than that. The atmosphere is tense, and every now and then there's an echoing crack, like a massive piece of glass is slowly losing its integrity.

By the time the morning arrives, the crack in the bubble is evident. After hours of threatening it, the crack finally falls open with a thundering snap, allowing the ocean to rush in. It hasn't yet given up entirely, but there's a steady stream of water pouring in to the plaza and on to the coral. The waterfall would be a pretty sight if not for the situation.

Hopefully no one stayed down there that long.

[Fai's head snaps back around.] You need to go. I can do this on my own. I don't want you getting hurt down here because of me.

Nice try, but I do this sort of thing for a living.

[He starts back towards the city.]

Besides, two sets of eyes are better then one.

Dwight! [Fai reaches out and latches onto the other man's arm.]

Please..[He is usually so good at hiding when he is upset but this has him shaken. He could make a comment about not having a set of eyes if he was in much of a joking mood but he isn't.]

[Dwight stops automatically at the feeling of weight on his arm. It's automatic even after all these years.]

...Fai, what you're feeling right now? That tug of panic in your gut telling you that I need to get myself somewhere safe?

That tug's in my gut telling me that you should get somewhere safe.

[His voice was calm and he actually puts his hand over Fai's. His time with The Guard, as bad a decision as it ultimately was, had helped him greatly in dealing with these sorts of situations.]

Come on.

[Fai looks down, debating inside of himself as to what he should do. He has always run away..let that cowardice take a hold of him and taken the first opportunity to escape from everything. Not just battles, but with himself and from others and the truth. This is just another time that he is running away.]

But what if my brother hasn't made it out yet? I need to at least know he is safe...

[Because he will never forgive himself if he loses him a second time.]

What if I go up there and he isn't there? This is one time I can't just run away.

I would never make you leave your brother.

We'll both go. You gotta trust me to handle myself, and I'll do the same with you.

Deal?

[Fai hesitates but he slowly nods. He will check on his brother and then make sure Dwight gets up to the island.]

Alright. Let's hurry then. Our house isn't too far from here.

[dwightandclean]

[Dwight nodded, letting the younger looking blond lead the way. He kept his eyes on their surroundings though. The water was steady, which was a good thing. It let him calculate how much time they had (roughly) before water levels would be a problem.]

[Fai rushed into the house after they got there.] Fai! [He goes room to room but finds that his brother isn't there. He is both relieved and terrified by this and that is obvious on his face as he searches.]

[dwightandclean]

[Dwight stayed a bit behind; he didn't know Fai's brother...but he figured looking for another blond would be the obvious start. He heard the name and blinked a bit before shrugging and begins looking around the living room before heading outside.]

[Fai comes out of the house a few moments later and shakes his head.] He isn't here..I wonder if he has already headed up top..

I don't really know where else he would go.
