Okay, that sounds really weird, but Shiro is trying to stay chill this week, so after a moment of staring he gives a shrug.]

I didn't think he was the type, but I guess I was wrong.

Same. But he hasn't tormented anyone with symmetry yet so... I'unno, I think he'll do okay.

[He shrugs back, but there's a very faint turn of his lips upward, an odd sort of smile.]

You look oddly pleased with yourself. Did something happen?

[Rin that was a really crappy question dodge.]

[He looks shocked but he is faking it. He's trying to psyche you out Rin watch out.]

[He's laughing so much right now. Sorry Rin it's just too easy.]

[Now he's just grumbling, looking mildly irritated. Joke or not it would be nice for people to have a little more faith in them.]

Rin, I've been teaching teenagers longer than you've been alive. I recognized that dopey smile you had on your face, it means something good happened recently and you're giddy about it.

[He's just going to quietly dissolve in to mumbling around another pocky stick.]

Also he still thinks it's something between Maka and Rin. Maybe they held hands in the park or something.]

[Welp. He's not getting out of this any time soon. And he didn't have the foresight to look like he'd been busy before approaching so using the kitchen as an excuse isn't going to work. Quietly defeated, Rin hops over the back of the couch and flops down next to Shiro, finishing the sick he had been muttering around.

What would you say if I asked you... if you think some one can love more than one person? Like. Romantically. Or somethin'.

Some people are like that.

[Whoops he knows exactly where this is going. He doesn't know it involves Kid, but he's preeeeeeetty sure Rin's going to say he's fallen in love with someone else. Shiro has no idea who, though.]

But others aren't. You probably already know how difficult a relationship can be. Multiply that by ten for each extra person involved. Everyone's gotta be clear with each other and in agreement about it, or else it'll cause a lot of heartbreak.

Do you have feelings for someone else besides Maka?

[He's not being judgmental, he's just worried that Rin is going to end up hurting himself.]

[Rin knew that already, at least enough to know that he wasn't setting himself up for something easy. But (not that he remembered it right now) he was also the person who found out he was the son of Satan, a half-demon, gifted with Satan's powers and still swore he was going to take on the already difficult task of becoming an exorcist.

He was stubborn enough to want to make it work even in the face of insurmountable odds.

Red came back to his cheeks again as he shifted on the couch, glancing away with his tail swaying off to the side.]

Yeah. [Which had been the truly surprising part. It wasn't as if they had magically manifested out of one talk, but he had been ignoring a lot of his own emotions lately for the sake of keeping things the way they were. He had his own concerns about things he had been feeling and what they might do to their relationship if he willingly acknowledged them.]

Well, that's one less headache to deal with.

[But it's still three people involved in a relationship. Shiro knows that it's young love, and that Rin and Maka and this third person think it's all nice now, but he also knows that they honeymoon period will end eventually, and it's not going to be pretty when it does.

The hard part is that he wants to warn Rin about it, but he knows Rin probably won't listen. Rin is just like Shiro was when he was a kid, and Shiro wouldn't have listened to his own advice at 17.]

...listen, Rin. I know you're happy about this, but-

[He sighs.]

Do you want the optimistic advice, or the realistic advice?

[He might as well let Rin choose what he wants to hear.]

[And he might regret this later more than anything, but Shiro did ask...]

I don't really want any advice right now. I know it probably sounds like I'm bein' oblivious to whatever problems we might have later, but it's fine right now and I'm okay with that.

And... well... you know I'm stubborn as hell.

You're way too much like me in that respect.

[But he'll respect Rin's wishes, and leave it at that. As hard as it is to do, he can at least drop the preacher act around his own kids.]

Just be honest with them no matter what, alright?

[You know he will come to you when the time comes that he does need advice.]

I'm just reminding you. I know you gotta figure stuff out on your own, but I'd like to help you avoid heartache if I can, and honesty is the number one thing that causes problems in relationships.

It's nice that you still wanna protect me, Dad, but even I know it can't be avoided forever. I just... wanna enjoy it while I can, y'know?
