Is it that time of the month already?

...No, today is not the start of shark week.

The Station Master's taken precautions to make this month's mingle party nice and laid back, after that rather magnetic week. Today, locals are all over the Plaza starting to put up the decorations for this strange holiday known as "Christmas", and they're more than happy to cheerfully rope any foreigner who doesn't look too busy into helping them.

The food tables are back, albeit with more drink than food. Hot chocolate, gluhwein mulled wine, a huge bowl of fruit punch, you name it, it's there. Foodwise, there's snowflake shaped crackers with cheese and meats, shrimp cocktails, cups filled with green or red jelly, and plenty of cookies to go around.

Near the food tables are the two usual booths, one belonging to the Welcoming Committee, armed with all the information a newbie would want to know, and the other belonging to the Host Club, manned by all the male eyecandy you could ever need. Have they done something special for their booths this festive season? Better sashay their way and find out!

Walking around all the tables and booths is what looks to be a giant lobster(???) in a Santa suit handing out candy to anyone and everyone nearby. It seems the locals don't understand that it's "Santa Claus", not "Sandy Claws."

Finally, it looks like there's been a new addition to the plaza. Was that ice skating rink over there last night?? It certainly fits the theme, and the locals don't seem to be surprised. They'll even help you lace up those skates and take them for a spin. Bundle up and try not to fall too much!

[She looks at him a moment longer, both answers good enough for her.

Finally she reaches up and offers him one of the cookies she'd grabbed. Her mother had told her not to have too many sweets before dinner, and it was nice to share.]

Okay. Uhm. He'll take the offered cookie, and blink at it a few times. What type is it? ]

[He looked confused. Maybe he didn't know what cookies where...that would be sad.]

It's a sugar cookie.

[It tasted good, she liked them over chocolate chip.]

[ Well he didn't have an oven until somewhat recently... ]

Have not had much experience with baking. [ But he'll take a careful bite and...

This is fairly good. ]

... Is it mostly sugar? [ Because it could explain things... ]

[She shrugs. The closest she's gotten to baking was licking the bowl when her mother was done with it.]

Probably.

[Sugar went into a lot of cookies, and they weren't all called 'sugar cookies' so maybe this one had more than usual.

[ He had help with pies a while ago. Everything else requires a book. ]

Perhaps why is quite so sweet?

[ Not that he minds it.

... Where did the cookie go, he couldn't have eaten it already... ]

[She nods and offers a small smile. Made sense to her.

Without a word, she puts the another in his hand and then goes to sit and eat the last one. She wouldn't mind if he joined her, but she wouldn't insist either.]

Okay, thanks little girl. Obviously this was the cure to his lack of interest in eating- cookies in a steady supply.

He looks around for a moment, but it doesn't look like there is anyone (that he can tell) looks similar to her.

Duke will take a seat a comfortable distance near, then. ]

[Ib stayed silent a while, just enjoying not needing to run away from everything and her cookie. Eventually, something occurred to her that she felt she needed to share.]

Most of what could be used to tie it ends up in possession of squirrels.. [ And if he doesn't tie it off, it comes undone rather quickly. ]

[ Because he's a hermit and has only recently gotten used to normal things like an actual bed. ]

....Understand them, so they are more likely to visit... [ And make off with things. ]

Mom says people are hard sometimes, that's why you have to keep trying.

... Even when people hurt you very badly?

[Oh...that makes her think of Mary and she frowns.]

Sometimes...people hurt. Sometimes they're your friends...

Doesn't mean you should avoid everyone. Then you wouldn't be able to make friends who won't hurt you.

[ Duke has the strangest feeling that this is something quite a few people have been trying to tell him for a while. ]

Think... that is something easier said than done, when one has been hurt badly enough....

[She looks at him and then back to the ice. She can't really argue with that.]

It takes time.

It's worth it. I think.

[She tilts her head at him...but then returns her gaze to the ice. She tried.]

So silence and watching the ice? Sounds like a good plan. ]
