Monthly Mingle Log

Is it that time of the month already?

...No, today is not the start of shark week.

The Station Master's taken precautions to make this month's mingle party nice and laid back, after that rather magnetic week. Today, locals are all over the Plaza starting to put up the decorations for this strange holiday known as "Christmas", and they're more than happy to cheerfully rope any foreigner who doesn't look too busy into helping them.

The food tables are back, albeit with more drink than food. Hot chocolate, gluhwein mulled wine, a huge bowl of fruit punch, you name it, it's there. Foodwise, there's snowflake shaped crackers with cheese and meats, shrimp cocktails, cups filled with green or red jelly, and plenty of cookies to go around.

Near the food tables are the two usual booths, one belonging to the Welcoming Committee, armed with all the information a newbie would want to know, and the other belonging to the Host Club, manned by all the male eyecandy you could ever need. Have they done something special for their booths this festive season? Better sashay their way and find out!

Walking around all the tables and booths is what looks to be a giant lobster(???) in a Santa suit handing out candy to anyone and everyone nearby. It seems the locals don't understand that it's "Santa Claus", not "Sandy Claws."

Finally, it looks like there's been a new addition to the plaza. Was that ice skating rink over there last night?? It certainly fits the theme, and the locals don't seem to be surprised. They'll even help you lace up those skates and take them for a spin. Bundle up and try not to fall too much!

Re: SKATING RINK

[At the sight of the ice rink, Washu just can't help herself. As soon as the skates are on, she's off doing lazy circles and figure eights. It looks like she's enjoying herself~.]
blessedbyfarore: (sheepish)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-03 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, she's certainly moving with more grace than Link. He isn't a stranger to ice (the Ice Caverns - never again!), but having skates on is a new and disconcerting experience, and as a result, he's not quite... co-ordinated.]

[Giving Washu an embarrassed smile, he attempts to take another step with them.]
You're really good at that.

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-03 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
[On one of her goes around the rink, she notices someone having a little bit of an issue with his co-ordination. Washu takes the opportunity to skate a lazy circle around Link and just smiles.]

Thank you. You could say I've had lots of practice. Though it's been awhile since I've actually been able to get on the ice like this.
blessedbyfarore: (sheepish)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-03 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives her another sheepish smile, still holding on to the rail.] I've only walked on ice a few times. And I never had the metal things before. [Gesturing to the ice skates, there.]

How are you supposed to balance on them? They're so thin!
crabbygenius: (Default)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Very carefully.

[She chuckles a bit.]

It's not as hard as you'd think. Why don't we go get you a pair and I'll help you learn.
blessedbyfarore: (little smile)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-05 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
You will? [He looks rather grateful at that.] Thanks. At least there's no Freezards around, huh?
crabbygenius: (Holo: huh?)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-08 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hm? What's a Freezard?
blessedbyfarore: (hmph)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-08 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's a monster made of ice. It slides around, and if it sees you, it breathes really cold air to try to freeze you!

[Not the nicest experience, even if there hadn't also been Ice Keese, blade traps, and killer icicles...]
crabbygenius: (....Wat.)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-09 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
...Sounds like it would make an interesting pet.
blessedbyfarore: (hmph)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-10 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[...Yeah. He'll stick with a chocobo, a guinea pig, and, formerly, a horse.] No they wouldn't. It'd be cold all the time!
crabbygenius: (Default)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-11 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
You're probably right. Though, some people might like it that.

[She's had some strange pets before.]

Oh well though~. It's probably a good thing we don't have any of those around here.
blessedbyfarore: (serious)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-13 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[So much nodding here.] They were bad enough in the Ice Caverns. I wouldn't want them around people, they're dangerous!
crabbygenius: (Default)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-14 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Then it's a really good thing we don't have anything like that here.
blessedbyfarore: (sheepish)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-16 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. [He laughs a bit sheepishly, then glances back out at the ice.] Should we get those ice skates?
crabbygenius: (Default)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-17 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, just follow me and we'll get started.

[And off she goes towards the spot where the iceskates are being kept. Once the right size is found, she helps him lace up the boots and stand which, is simple though sometimes tricky depending on the individual in question.]
blessedbyfarore: (you got it)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-17 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Standing! Sort of! Thankfully, Link has pretty decent balance hi, riding a galloping horse with no bridle or stirrups while shooting a bow, and manages it after a moment.] Right, I think I got it!
crabbygenius: (Default)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-17 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Good. He was going to need all that balance to prevent himself from meeting the ice face first.]

Now follow me and we'll head off to the ice.

[And off she is towards the ice~. Once there she takes a step out into the rink and does a quick circle before standing at the entrance to help him out if he needs it.]

Take a slow step. Standing on ice is a lot like standing on the ground, only you need to watch how you shift your weight due to the lack of friction on the surface of the rink.
blessedbyfarore: (um)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-17 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Link does as instructed, placing a tentative step on the ice.] I've walked on ice before, but I slid all over the place... [The skates certainly add a different dimension.]
crabbygenius: (Polite smile)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-18 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Then you'll be happy to find out that this is nothing like walking on ice.

[Which was very true. The skates added a very interesting and surprisingly stabilizing factor into the equation. If you could keep your balance and control your forward momentum.

Once he had both feet on the ice she smiled.]

Good, now slide one foot forward and shift your weight with it.
blessedbyfarore: (um)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-21 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. [Huh... that's not actually too bad, although he definitely feels like he's going to start wobbling if he stands still. Shifting his weight with each slide of his foot...]

[Link skates another step or two forward, making little cautious movements as he edges closer.]
Uh - how do you turn around?
crabbygenius: (Default)

[personal profile] crabbygenius 2012-12-22 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
You shift your weight and lean a little into the direction you want.

blessedbyfarore: (faint smile)

[personal profile] blessedbyfarore 2012-12-23 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
[With a distracted nod, he does so, gratified when he begins to turn. Still, to turn backwards, he has to do a sort of wide circle, and he does so, coming to face Washu again.] How's that?
