YE WHO ENTER, PREPARE TO BE PUNCHED
Who: You, you and YOU! Anyone who is up for some good ol' sparring/training/getting their face beaten in
Where: In the park
When: All week, starting on the 20th!
Style: Anything goes!
Status: OPEN
It's a good week in the bubble! ...Then again, every week is fairly pleasant, temperature wise, in this little city under the sea.
But!
This week is extra pleasant, because there are training dummies set up all over the field in the park, all ready and waiting to be smacked around or smashed into itty bitty bits. Oh, but if hitting dummies aren't your thing, there are also targets for the archers and marksmen who want to get some target practice set up at the north end, cordoned off so people don't accidentally wander into the line of fire. And for those who'd rather play it safe or would like start learning the art of battle, there are plenty of practice weapons in... wheelbarrows? at the corners of the field.
Well, okay, this week would actually be unpleasant if you use the park for some peace and quiet. But for everyone else wanting to get some good old fashioned sparring and training in, this week's a great time to do it!

it's okay! sorry if i kind of spring it on you, i just thought it was a good opporunity :>
You'll be fine.
Lemme see what you can do! [She sounds excited...]/small>
I thought it was too! And it's fine -- Band Camp just ate my brain for a couple of days
And these targets looked to close to him...but then, he's missing an eye and Yukari had no trouble hitting it and not burying the arrow in it so it should work out. Right? He takes a deep breath and exhales, grabbing an arrow and fitting it to the string. Let's see how close he'll get!
He tilts his bow up out of habit, momentarily forgetting he's far closer than he's used to. Burn him, how different is this bow? He releases and--the arrow flies over the target. Oops. He blinks.] I'll go get that.
that sounds fun, at least! * A*
....oh.
Heheh. You know, somehow, she hadn't quite expected that to happen. She looks almost amused, and maybe a little relieved too, that he hadn't totally upstaged her like she thought he might. Despite his missing eye, she just... doesn't like to be second best or anything.
So she grins.
She'll wait. No worries.]
It was fun! my brain keeps getting eaten apparently
Guess I've got a lot to learn about using this bow. How far away are we from the target anyway?
[Closer than 500 paces, he knows that much. He realizes she probably uses a different measurement system than his world does, but that doesn't really matter. He only wants a rough estimate anyway. So he can try to figure how far back he'd need to go to shoot how he's used to. How long is the range of this bow...?]
heehee! take your time. <3
That's a good question. I... guess I haven't exactly measured it.
[Now it's her turn to look a little bit sheepish. She'd only been part of an Archery club, and wasn't particularly competitive...
Well, outside of Tartarus.]
Typically, we'd be about 70 meters away, but we might be a bit closer.
okay! \o\ school started
We don't use meters, and I can't really judge with my eye...does your world have feet or inches? [Paces or spans would be used for this distance, but they wouldn't have those if they didn't have feet or inches...]
Back before we left the Two Rivers, we'd stand somewhere around 300 paces away at the closest. [With crossbows, they'd stood closer. He pauses, thinking for a moment. A span is two paces, a pace is three feet, a foot is 10 inches... It's a little while before he continues] So about 900 feet or 9000 inches away.

Even after the pause.]
That's a lot!
[Er. Well, it certainly seems like it, haa. So she continues on also.]
But um, yeah, we have feet and inches, too. A meter is about... 3 feet, I guess? [Man how long has it been since she's learned this stuff.] Maybe a little more. So you'd just have to multiply it by 70...
[..........]
It's probably only about 200-some feet.

I thought we were close to the targets, but that flaming close? If I'd hit that target with the bow we're making back at the Winespring, the arrow would've gone clean through it. [And if there were more targets behind that one, clean through those as well...Even if they were men in armor. They were definitely far closer than he's used to...]
How much farther do you think we could back up? [Chances are he'd hit it if they were farther away, after all.]
no subject
Honestly, she didn't think they'd been that close. And catering to him so that he can show off isn't usually something she'd do, but it really doesn't seem to be his intention . . .
So she glances back when he asks.]
Well, there's only one way to find out.
no subject
He takes a step away from the targets, then pauses.] Do you want to shoot first?
no subject
[Yukari shrugs, stepping forward. She takes in a breath, which makes it look like her chest is puffing out a little, proudly-- though she's not nearly as confident as she appears. Staring at the target, she realizes it's already far away as it is, but she isn't going to back down.]
Then we can move back some.
no subject
[Mat crosses his arms as well as he can to watch; it's been a while since he's seen someone else shoot something that isn't a crossbow too. Besides, he wants to have some idea of how far she'd be able to pull back on the bow he's made plans for... She'd said she was around 160 centimeters...the conversion she gave him was meters to feet...]
1/3
Really really nice--
But as long as she makes it onto the target, she supposes she won't complain.]
no subject
Swoosh!]
no subject
Phew . . .]
no subject
Not too bad. [And time for the question, before he starts walking away from the target.] Do centimeters go into meters?
no subject
She nods.]
Yeah. A meter is a hundred centimeters.
no subject
But you're not less than five feet tall.
no subject
[She blinks, as if being accused of something. And then she thinks about it for a moment longer before responding more substantially.]
No, I guess I'm a bit over that. But not by much.
[She's not that tall, okay.]
no subject
But five feet is about here. [He puts his hand about two of her feet lower than the top of his head, around a foot below her head.]
You're closer to six feet. [Unless her feet are different....]
no subject
I . . . don't think that's right. I'm definitely not six feet.
[That's rather laughable, if they're talking about feet as Yukari knows it.]
no subject
How big are the feet in your world?
[Because there is no way that they're talking about the same feet. She's not that short.]
no subject
Luckily, they're a pretty common object that she's relatively familiar with.]
About . . . this much, maybe?
[After placing down her bow so she can use both her hands, she'll indicate the size of a 12-inch ruler, best as she remembers.]
no subject
I think that might explain something. Your feet look bigger. [Which would be rather strange if they were talking about their actual feet.]
no subject
Bigger . . . feet?
Tch--]
That's confusing.
[. . . But still, there's light amusement behind her tone, too.]
