[Equius has been in Vatheon long enough to know that when the locals insist on you doing something, it's best to just listen and do what they say. So he dutifully hung up a stocking (a long, pin-striped one), although he's still not quite sure why, and made out with his matesprit under some mistletoe, and found some gifts for his friends. Then he curled up in bed like normal and went to sleep.]

[Which he still would be--asleep, that is--were it not for the sudden introduction of a heavy, feathery butt on his head and loud, excited kwehing in his ear. It seems the chocobos are awake and worked up about something.]

[Equius knows he shouldn't feel so nervous about this; after all, he's wearing Gamzee's sign around his neck. But the door is something anyone from the street can see!]

[Gamzee raises his hand, tracing his fingers over Wataru's name. Wataru would've liked them living here. He had always been ready to take in anyone, after all. And he would've liked Darkleer too, Gamzee is sure of that. Hah, he'd probably understand him way better than Gamzee does. Wataru had been smart like that, after all. And Gamzee already know Wataru liked Equius. He had said so much.

Yeah. Yeah, this was good.]

I love it.

Oh. Good.

[Equius watches Gamzee trace Wataru's name, and his heart gives a little jog in his chest. He knows how much Gamzee misses his human moirail; sure, he has Karkat now, but it's really never the same.]

What do you think of that new title for Darkleer? The Summoner told me some of the other adult trolls are calling him that now.

[Gamzee squints at the name, before he shrugs a little.]

What does it mean?

"Ever upward."

That sounds better than Executer or Expatriot, right?

Uh.

[This is the face Gamzee has when he still doesn't quite get it.]

It starts with "ex," like his other titles, but it sounds... happier, I guess.

[Equius shrugs helplessly.]

The Summoner said that Karkat's ancestor started calling him that.

If Signless all went and start that shit up, it's gotta be good.

[Yep. Utter trust in Karkat's ancestor's ability to only do nice things. He was like that.]

I suppose.

[Equius looks at the door moodily for a moment more, before leaning in to kiss Gamzee's cheek.]

Why don't you show me what you can do with those clubs now?

[Gamzee smiles, curling his arms around Equius' arm and giving it a tug towards the backyard.]

Yeah. Lets do that. Shit. My prongs are gonna be like fuckin' rust.

Oh, I'm sure it's not that bad.

[Equius lets Gamzee lead him to the backyard, where he takes a seat on the porch. The chocobos follow, and sit on either side of him.]

You know, I don't think I've ever seen you juggle before. Not with clubs, anyway.

[Gamzee leaves the fourth club on the porch with Equius, before wandering a bit further into the yard. Rolling the clubs over his hands over a moment, twirling them between his finger, he tries to adjust to their with, the way they slide in his hands, before he tosses up the first.

And promptly drops it, too caught up staring at the fact that they light up.

He gives Equius a momentary, wide-eyed look of adoration and surprise, as if to make sure he really did that, before he kicks up the fallen club, and starts to juggle.

He first settled into an easy, simple cascade pattern, his eyes wide as he just stares at the clubs lighting up and flashing in the air, his hands practically working on his own. He'll try more complicated tricks in a minute, when he is used to his new clubs and not so prone to just staring.]

Goddamn.

[Equius actually laughs out loud at the look on Gamzee's face as he watches the clubs, and it's a deep, rolling, unself-conscious sound, the kind he makes when he's truly happy and completely unguarded.]

[Gamzee drops another club at the laughter. Hey, Equius rarely ever laughed! It was enough to surprise him.

Kicking the club up again, he narrows his eyes a little in concentration. His fingers are rusty, his throws not as smooth (to his eyes at least) but damn if he doesn't want to run through the list of his tricks and see how bad he has become.

He starts juggling again, a simple, straightforward pattern. Once that is set up nicely, the clubs flashing bright with each thrown, he starts tossing in some flourishes, his tongue poking out a little in concentration. other flourishes soon join the pattern. And as absolutely hopeless as Gamzee is with... well, basically everything, at least this he can do.]

[Darkleer the chocobo is watching those flashing lights intensely, and Equius can feel him tensing up and getting ready to run in there and try to pluck them out of the air. He grabs hold of the chocobo's collar, restraining him, and watches Gamzee, deeply impressed by the flourishes and tricks he's doing. It's like watching him bake; there's something beautiful about watching someone find that zone and be completely in the moment.]

[It is a good thing Darkleer is being restrained by Equius. Gamzee is so lost to the motion of the clubs, that he would've never seen it coming.

He tries a few more tricks, but it is not until he tries a Mill's mess that his clubs drop again. But that's fine. He hadn't been yet been able to really master that at home either.]

These are so goddamn amazing.

You're really good at that.

[Equius is deeply impressed by his matesprit's skill! Now he wishes he'd made him some clubs sooner.]

[Gamzee laughs, shaking his head as he kicks the fallen clubs up again, before coming over to sit down by Equius once more.]

Nah. You should all like see the motherfuckers at the circus. They are fuckin' good.

You're the best I've seen.

[Equius lets go of Darkleer, who immediately starts nudging the fallen clubs with his beak.]

You must have practiced a lot to get that good.

[Gamzee picks up one of the clubs, idly flipping it over and over in his hand.]

Ain't up and much to fuckin' do when you are getting your wicked chill on waiting at a beach.

[... oh. Equius should have known that.]

So... has anyone else ever seen you juggle? You should show other people, I bet they'd like to see it too.

Huh, maybe? Never all got my thought on for it. Was too busy getting all up on all the fuckin' strife during the game to juggle.

[He looks pondersome.]

You should show people. I bet some of our other friends would like to see it.
