vatheon | Monthly Mingle Log + Marks

Though things are certainly a bit busy, Station Master has decided to go ahead with the welcoming party for the new arrivals. Partially because he had decided to take this task upon himself and he certainly wasn't going to slack, and partially because making things appear as normal was as good a cover as they had right now.

However with how much has been going on, this party is not quite as extravagant as previous ones have been. The location is near to the elevator, on the beach. A large banner hung between two trees proclaims a cheerful 'Welcome to Vatheon'. The long food tables that normally take up most of the space are missing. There simply hadn't been the capability of whipping up the sort of food they normally served. What is there however is a lot of fruit. Fresh apples and pears. Bananas. A few bowls of strawberries and pièce de résistance several large and perfectly ripe water melons. One or two have already been split, the water melons pieces set out on small plates on one big table ready for any to take. Drinks are available too. Fresh water and fruit juices. The weather might not be entirely the best for this kinda thing (though occasionally the sun seems to peek out from between the clouds!) but at least it isn't raining.

But that is not all.

In the cover of the storage building turned bubble reparation headquarters sits C. She has been contacting the people who signed up for catching the fish, asking them to start bringing them to her today so she can start working on the marks. Similarly the people who have signed up for early mark change have been invited too to drop by today or in the next few days so the first step in making sure the coral is returned to proper working conditions can be taken.

"But you did. Because I had to go." And that had meant a huge amount to Annabeth; the fact that he'd wanted to help but trusted her enough to come back all on her own. He never tried to overpower her and he always respected her abilities.

Her head falling to Percy's shoulder, she let herself relax, knowing that no matter what they'd get through this.

Percy rubbed her back lightly, settling her against him.

"And you were amazing," he said, tightening his arms around her.

Annabeth brought her arms down and wrapped them around his waist, breathing him in. There were times when being with him made her feel so safe and content that her chest felt tight.

She let out a little laugh. "Not so terribly amazing. Broken ankle and fall into Tartarus, remember."

"You saved the statue of Athena. And...honestly? At least one of us was going to have to go back into Tartarus anyway," Percy said. "I realized that as we were about to fall. The doors need to be closed from the inside."

His eyes were intense as he pulled back to look into hers. "There's no one I'd rather fall into Tartarus with, anyway."

"Yeah true." She nodded her head from side to side, giving the point. "I agree with you though. Someone has to be down there. I'd just... rather not fall into the infinite abyss to do it. Even if it was was you."

Equally intense eyes, tinged with a smile met Percy's as he pulled back a little. She played with the hair that curled around his temple. "You know what? I love you, Seaweed Brain."

"Well me either, but we're falling."

Percy smiled back. "Yeah?" he said, leaning his head toward her hand. "Well, I love you too, Wise Girl."

Annabeth reveled in that for a moment, shutting her eyes with a smile and tilting her head forward. It just wasn't something she was used to hearing, even now.

"That we are. And it's weird to think that when we leave here, we might still be falling."

Percy kissed Annabeth's forehead, still idly rubbing her back.

"We probably will be. I mean I don't know how long the fall is, but I'm willing to bet we weren't there yet."

Annabeth dropped one hand to Percy's knee, almost absently mimicking the movements of his hand on her back.

"Mm," she agreed. "I... I don't know how to feel about it, because on one hand, I'm desperate to be back there, finishing the quest with the others. But if finishing the quest means Tartarus..." She's not scared; she has Percy with her. She's merely terrified.

"I almost feel guilty for being grateful about our stopover here." And more time with you.

Percy sighed.

"Yeah, I'm feeling about the same way," he said. "I hate not knowing how long we'll be here. Like any second we'll be falling again."

"Yeah exactly," she agreed. "I mean, we don't even know where here is, but I know it's better than Tartarus."

"I guess we just have to make the most of it. I mean, the people here seem happy." Annabeth knows that what's on the surface may not always be the case but she's a pretty good judge of character and the people here do seem genuinely okay. If bored.

"Yeah," Percy said, thinking about all the times they'd landed on an island or stumbled across something that seemed benign at first but ended up being a trap or worse. "I don't really trust this place, but...yes. Anywhere is better than Tartarus."

"I don't know if 'happy' is the right word. But yeah, everyone seems okay."

"I don't trust it either. Not yet." She looked around expectantly, as she had been doing their entire time on the island so far and was still surprised when nothing presented a threat. "Time will tell."
