vatheon | Monthly Mingle Log + Marks

Though things are certainly a bit busy, Station Master has decided to go ahead with the welcoming party for the new arrivals. Partially because he had decided to take this task upon himself and he certainly wasn't going to slack, and partially because making things appear as normal was as good a cover as they had right now.

However with how much has been going on, this party is not quite as extravagant as previous ones have been. The location is near to the elevator, on the beach. A large banner hung between two trees proclaims a cheerful 'Welcome to Vatheon'. The long food tables that normally take up most of the space are missing. There simply hadn't been the capability of whipping up the sort of food they normally served. What is there however is a lot of fruit. Fresh apples and pears. Bananas. A few bowls of strawberries and pièce de résistance several large and perfectly ripe water melons. One or two have already been split, the water melons pieces set out on small plates on one big table ready for any to take. Drinks are available too. Fresh water and fruit juices. The weather might not be entirely the best for this kinda thing (though occasionally the sun seems to peek out from between the clouds!) but at least it isn't raining.

But that is not all.

In the cover of the storage building turned bubble reparation headquarters sits C. She has been contacting the people who signed up for catching the fish, asking them to start bringing them to her today so she can start working on the marks. Similarly the people who have signed up for early mark change have been invited too to drop by today or in the next few days so the first step in making sure the coral is returned to proper working conditions can be taken.

Monster. That was Leo's first thought when he saw a girl with gray skin and horns and wings approach him. However, she didn't look like she was about to kill him, but a lot of times monsters didn't act that way at first. They'd try to lure you in with a false sense of security and then the next moment you're dead.

Panic was probably evident in his voice and his eyes, but Leo tried to keep his cool... which for someone with fire powers was a bit of an oxymoron.

"Um... the kind where you don't kill me?"

For a moment, she gives him a perplexed look, not quite offended, but certainly thrown off guard, then just laughs.

"No, that would not be very fun, would it?" Well, for certain people she knew, maybe. But not for her. "And I hope it is not the type where you would like to kill me, either! That still leaves my question without an answer!"

"So you're not a monster?" Leo asked. He wasn't sure he could trust her so he wasn't about to completely drop his guard, but he relaxed a little.

"It's a Leo party, clearly," he said with more confidence than h actually felt.

"Last time I checked, no." At least she doesn't really think so, so she was happy to shrug it off and let it go. She'd been called worse before. She'd been worse before. "Leo is you? So then we are having a party about you... what about you? Have you achieved something great? Or... you're not going to die, are you?"

She succinctly remembered something about humans and dying and parties, and couldn't really remember hearing of any other kind of parties besides their wriggling day, but he might as well have said that, if it was what he meant.

"That's good. So uh... what are you?" Leo was really doing a bad job of recovering from foot in mouth syndrome, but he had to know why she looked so different if she wasn't a monster.

"Anyway. Yeah, I'm Leo and definitely hoping not to die. I just got here today, so I guess this is a welcome party?"

"Oooh, a welcome party..." She sounds a little disappointed, but it doesn't really distract her too much, even if she was hoping to learn some weird new human celebration. Cultural acceptance and all that. "Oh right, how could I forget! I am Aradia, and I am a troll. I forget that many of the other people who get brought here haven't actually seen trolls outside of this place, since so many of them were already used to it by the time I arrived."

"A troll? Well that's new. Are there other like you here?" Aradia didn't look like the trolls he was used to. There were either really ugly, which she wasn't, or hey were short fat plastic dolls with pointy ears and brightly colored hair that stood up on end in a triangle. He actually went as one for Halloween once as a kid in order to make it seem like he didn't care that the bullies were calling him one to make fun of hi pointy ears.

Aradia nods again, looking out over the beach to see if she can spot any of her friends, and not finding any in the immediate vicinity, she turns back to him.

"Yes, there are quite a few here! I am sure you will meet them all in due time." And then, in a valiant effort to be comforting, she adds, "And don't worry, you look just as strange to us as we do to you."

Leo noticed that she was looking around a lot and wondered if she was ADHD too.

"Oh, what a relief," he said with a laugh. "I was worried I would look completely normal."

"Who wants to be normal? I cannot imagine it being all that exciting!" When she laughs along with him, her wings flutter a little bit, beyond her control.

Even before Leo knew he was a demigod, he knew he wasn't normal. Kind of hard when you have fire powers and your Aunt calls you a diablo. The ADHD and dyslexia didn't make things any easier, but at least those were things "normal" people had too.

"I wouldn't know. I've never been normal a day in my life." Leo smiled. He thought it was cute that her wings fluttered when she laughed. It kind of reminded him of Buford's little puffs of steam.

"Not even a single day?" Even though she can't discern anything in particular that's different between him and any other human-shaped being she knows, she doesn't doubt it for a second. Humans always found ways to surprise her. "You do sound like you're used to it, now that I think about it."

He paused a moment as if to think, "There was that one ti- nope. Not a single day."

"Not really used to it. Seems like there's always something new and crazy I didn't know about myself." Leo shrugged, "No big deal, all part of being me."

"And what exactly is being you?" You can't lead a girl and expect her not to ask! She stares him down with bright, intensely curious eyes, eager to learn-- maybe a bit too intensely. It doesn't immediately occur to her that he may or may not want to talk about it.

"Being awesome," Leo said, with lots of gusto. He then added, "Also a demigod - half human, half god." Aradia seemed trustworthy enough to tell her what he was.
