[gv] - 8 - garden

This month the Golden Victory is decorated in a different way than usual. When customers enter, they will be greeted with garden arches covered in roses before coming inside to see the club has become a beautiful rose garden itself. All around the garden room are various seats with tea and snack trays for the customers and larger tables with decorations and having trays of their own, while the larger tables also have matching tea trays much like the smaller tables.

At various spots in the club too, there can be seen long buffet tables (all decorated the same way) carrying all types of food (from fruit to meat) on each table. For our hosts themselves, they will be dressed as butlers wearing matching top hats and colored roses matching their personality with special meanings. The usual rules and host roster is posted near the front door for any new customers or old ones looking for their favorites.

Please note that some hosts may be unavailable due to coma or other unforeseen situations.

[It's the reaper's first job that isn't 'whatever missions Lord Death sends him on', and like any challenge Death the Kid takes on, he intends to do it perfectly.

For all that the death god with an obsession with symmetry lacked in anything he considered an 'entertaining talent', he was however surprisingly well-versed in hosting parties and social gatherings for his apparent age, slipping easily into the role assumed each time his Exalted Father hosted one in Death City.

But as smoothly as he might facilitate conversation, there's no stopping him from attempting to adjust the placement of objects in his line of sight, trying to arrange everything so that they are not only neat and precise, but fitting into his personal rules of aesthetic beauty.

If he can manage to keep himself from adjusting a girl's pigtails, it would be nothing short of a miracle.

It's still strange, being paid to be a courteous and attentive host, but the clothes are certainly to his taste, and as an additional bonus, the hat conceals the asymmetrical stripes in his hair. There must be a universal rule that says gods are allowed to be vain.]

[Rin would be lying through his teeth if he said he wasn't at least a tiny be worried about Kid. For all his defense of the Host Club there was still that nagging voice at the back of his mind that fretted over whether or not a place like it was such a good fit for the oft neurotic death god. And Rin wasn't the only one concerned. Whenever there was enough time to respond, texts were being volleyed back and forth between himself and Maka regarding the status of Kid's first day.

But he could only see and hear so much from the kitchen, so it wasn't long before Rin took a lull in both the kitchen and customers as a chance to slide on over and verbally check up on his friend.]

Yo.

[Eloquent, Rin.]

[It's a pleasant surprise to see Rin out of the kitchen, but even more so when one is genuinely fond of his unexpected visitor; Kid's polite smile breaks into a brief grin in greeting.]

Hello yourself. Is everything going alright back there?

[Kid, this isn't a social call, he's coming to make sure you aren't having a mental breakdown over an uneven number of rose petals on the walkway, or the teacups being mismatched.]

[He doesn't get out as much as he'd like, which turned in to a point of contention when he became painfully aware how distant he really was from his fellow coworkers after Zelos left. Regardless of his station, though, he is at least partially dressed up in a manner similar to the others - the only difference being that his jacket is hung up in the kitchen, replaced by a full black apron over a white button down shirt.

The question earns a cocky grin and a pleased twitch of his tail, well enough in his element even with a curse going on that he's more prone to lean closer towards his somewhat arrogant nature.]

Tch, please. You're really gonna doubt me in a kitchen? You forget how awesome I am.

[Rin pls. You are not Black*Star]

[True to nature, Kid's hands eventually reach up to make a minute adjustment of the knot of Rin's tie, the fold of his collar.]

Oh, of course. My mistake, Master Chef Okumura.

[And while that last part there reminded him poignantly of a certain blue-haired loudmouth, his confidence wins him a rare chuckle.]

I've noticed visitors seem to have a particular favorite host sometimes. Is that common?

[Ioder is as dressed up as the rest of the hosts, but unlike them there is something distinctly... off about his demeanor lately. With his customers he smiles and chats as he always does, sometimes playing his flute or drawing a picture for them. But he seems worn out, distant, and it's most noticeable when he's away from his table.

He stubbornly still comes in to work, though, seeming to disregard his personal state for the welcome distraction of his job.]

[A quiet thanks is uttered at the adjustment with no complaint. As busy as the kitchen gets, there's often little time to consider his appearance as much as he should be, so every little bit helped.]

Hm? Oh, yeah, totally. But there's always a chance some one is gonna get sent home, so the customers are still pretty open to changin' to another host if that happens.

You been doin' okay so far?

[Considering this is a host club where the attention of the hosts is supposed to be, presumably, lavished on the female clients for their entertainment, this is perhaps inappropriate.

But there might be a few visitors who might not mind speculating on the intimacy of Kid's gesture.

Such speculation is lost on him, anyway.]

I assume so, but I admit, I haven't done much more than watch the others work.

[ New guy awkwardness? Pshaw. He doesn't know the meaning of the word awkwardness. The butler look isn't so different from his era but the top hat is definitely no fedora. Still, he's taken to the look, lightly adjusting his gloves and the rose on his lapel. ]

Wager it's a different sort of service than I'm used to...

[Rin has actually been asked for a few times, so there are probably plenty of eyes on them right now, twittering voices chatting about the famous host club chef and the new arrival that's fussing over him.

Rin ignores them. He's pretty much gotten used to it by now.]

Your first few weeks are probably gonna be a little slow. It takes a while to build up a regular client list. 'least that's what Zelos always said. And he said most clients like really unique hosts, so you fit that part real well!

[He's just... going to grin at that. Like a dope. Like he didn't just totally point out that Kid is a death god obsessed with order while having asymmetrical hair.

Only not in so many words.]

[He begins to nod, then stops.

Looks at him.

There's a hesitant sort of twist to his mouth, which is when Rin can easily determine that Kid has followed the implication keenly. His pallid skin colors a little, as he reaches slowly up to the brim of his top hat and gives it a bit of a tug, making doubly certain his stripes are hidden.]

Rin...

[Okay, okay. He hates them but Rin likes them, and ugh, he is actually pretty torn about this!!]

I think you and Maka are about the only people who think that aberration of the coloration of my hair is unique in any positive connotation.

[PLEASE DON'T TEASE.]

[Oops.

Rin, naturally, only realizes what he's truly said after it's out of his mouth and in the air, and even then it's well in to Kid's own reaction that it really dawns on him.

Yeah. Oops.

But apologies for the slip are very quickly forgotten in the wake of that face. He can't help it. Kid's expression is screaming 'DON'T TEASE ME' and that's something a person like Rin Okumura, resident big brother and general immature pain in the ass, can only take as a challenge.

A faint smirk twitches on his lips, and he leans forward across the table, pushing the hat up with a look of mock-awe.]

Woooooow... man when you get red you get really red. I think you're almost matchin' your flower!

[Angelo can tell something is wrong with Ioder and volunteers himself to check on this little problem.]

Something troubling you, Ioder?

Troubling me... ? ... no, no. Nothing is troubling me, Angelo. Thank you for asking, though.

[You really think some one involved in politics and the dealings of nobility would be better at lying.]

[He's dealt with his fair share of liars in the nobility, so he can spot one right away.]

I can spot a liar when I see one, Ioder. And further, it's Mister Vice President now. So why don't you tell your great leader what's troubling you?

[He's half joking and teasing though, just to lighten up the mood or attempt to.]

[UGH.

The worst part about blushing is how difficult it is to stop when it's being pointed out like that. No-- no, that's not the worst.

The worst is being a little amused at Rin's amusement, even though his amusement is won by making him embarrassed.

Congratulations, it's not everyday you get to make a death god fluster; he pushes at his hands, turning his head away.]

You're impossible! This is hardly the time!

[The teasing normally would have worked on him. Even when he was irritated, he responded well to others trying to lift his mood. But there was that heaviness about him today, like he hadn't slept in days.

Sighing in defeat, he presses the heel of his hand in to his eyes.]

Things at home are... difficult, to say the least.

[Sporting his two eyes thanks to the curse, the now humanized Fai flits around the host club as he normally does. The pink rose on his label stands for Admiration, Sympathy, Gentleness, Grace, Gladness, Sweetness and although Fai isn't entirely sure he falls into all of those categories he has determined he will try to be the best host that he can for the pink rose.

He smiles at guests as he serves some of the nice treats and welcomes anyone through the door with a bright smile and a..]

Welcome to the club~

[Even with the hand pushed away, Rin didn't back up, leaning on the table with his tail swishing back and forth, back and forth, like a feline that was all too pleased with himself.

Which he was. Very much so.

What's more though, beneath that arrogance, that need to poke further and just see how far he can take it before retribution is that acknowledgement that he really enjoys seeing Kid like this. Not embarrassed, mind you, but behaving as a human teenager would - comfortable enough with some one that he can willingly allow himself to be flustered, to blush, to even smile at the fact that he was being teased.

He liked that smile that he got on the second floor landing Monday morning. He wants to see more of it, and damned if he doesn't fully understand why.]

C'mon, I totally saw a smile in there. You're gonna get a lot more customers if you smile!

[That's a finger now poking at one flushed cheek.]

[Oh so that's it. While he's usually not one to meddle in the affairs of others, unless he feels the need to, he usually stays out of it. But that curiosity within him makes him want to know.]

What is going on exactly? If you don't mind me asking.

[This one might actually need meddling, all things considered. Nothing he did seemed to be helping, and even all of his yelling at Duke did little to assuage the tense, bundled up mess of feelings he had about everything.]

I'm sure you've noticed Duke's absence by now...

[He's shooting in the dark, but he decides to guess.]

Did the two of you have a disagreement about something?

[Serph, on the other hand, is completely unused to this kind of dress. Still, he looks comfortable enough in the butler's outfit and top hat, even if he still vastly prefers his usual body armour to the Host Club's various outfits.

He doesn't really know much about Mr. New Guy, though, so Serph tilts his head and asks...]

What kind of service is your usual?

[RIN STOP--

It's really taking every ounce of self-restraint Kid possesses to not grab Rin by both ears and make him relent like a couple of boys tousling in their Sunday best, but that just means he can't conceal his smile.

Fine, Rin, you win.

But he's still going to punch your arm. Even if his response is full of fondness:]

You're lucky I like you so much, you brat.

[It probably would have worked, too. With much yowling. His ears are sensitive, ok?

The arm punch is met with much less noise though, just a soft grunt and a quiet 'ow' because damn it Kid how are you so scrawny and so strong at the same time.

He returns the gesture with a stuck out tongue, flicking at the brim of the hat so it sits back up right.]

I may be a brat, but I'm still awesome.
