[Akihiko reaches over and takes one, taking a bite and chewing thoughtfully.]

You're right. It's not bad.

I wonder what this is...

[ He picked up something that looked like a miniature cream puff and took a curious bite of out it.

Bacon makes everything better. ]

[He notices Naoya sampling another tasty-looking French food-puff.]

What's that one like?

...seems to be some sort of buttercream. I like it.

[ Granted, he can eat just about anything. ]

Buttercream?

[Akihiko looks around at the appetizers and tilts his head a bit. Buttercream cremepuffs mingling with spinach puffs and bacon-wrapped crab... What an unusual combination.]

Heh, looks like some of the desserts got mixed in with the savoury ones... [Regardless, he's grabbing one of those puffs too and popping it into his mouth and chewing.]

Not bad though.

Probably because they look plain from the outside.

[ From what he has seen of the dessert table, they're pretty gussied up for the occasion. ]

Wouldn't surprise me... [He picks up two more puffs, inspecting them each, not certain which may be the buttercream and which may end up being full of cheese or spinach.]

These ones are pretty easy to mix up.

...I don't think it makes for a bad surprise, though.

[ It was a strange blessing, to find surprises that weren't incredibly painful or dangerous. ]

Yeah, I agree - it keeps you on your toes though, that's for sure.

[He offers one of the two puffs to Naoya]

I guess a real surprise would be eating two at once, you'd never know which ones you picked until you bit down.

I'm not sure they'd taste very good mixed together... thanks.

[ He plucks one of the puffs out of Akihiko's palm to study, before popping it into his mouth. ]

I doubt it... One at a time might be the safest route.

[And he just pops the remaining one in his mouth, chewing.]

[ Naoya eyes the tray. Now that they've said it...

...he rarely gets to do things for fun, any more, and certainly not just because.

He picks up two of them on impulse and pops them in his mouth.

Akihiko will get treated to Naoya making a very unpleasant face. ]

[Seeing Naoya actually go ahead and do just that elicits a laugh from Akihiko, shaking his head.]

So, how'd that taste? Buttercream and spinach?

[ To his credit, Naoya manages to swallow the entire mixture. ]

...unpleasant.

I wouldn't suggest it.
