006 - Girls' Night Out

Tifa hadn't really been looking for ways to enjoy Vatheon while she was here, but she seemed to be getting a lot of encouragement to do so lately. And she found herself really looking forward to her girls' night out with Rinoa. Not that, to be honest, she was completely sure what the difference was between a 'girls' night out' and just a night out, but she supposed she'd learn.

She approached the entrance to the carnival, looking around for the younger woman. On finding she was the first to arrive, though, her attention shifted to the bright colors and lights within. The only thing she had to compare it to was Gold Saucer, and she wondered how it compared.

"Well, I guess that would make sense? They seem to be all about fish and marine life here."

They still look weird, though.

"Wanna go on?"

[fightforastar]

"Sure. Then we get to say we've ridden fish."

She shakes her head a bit, not sure what sort of boast that would be. As the carousel comes to a stop to load up new passengers, she steps in to find a seahorse of her own.

"True! It'd be easier than trying to ride real ones, anyway."

Giggling, she hops onto a seahorse that catches her eye, after a moment of searching.

"Make sure to get one that goes up and down and isn't bolted to the floor."

Because clearly that's the most important part.

"I'm glad I'm with such an expert on carousels."

Tifa laughs, and on Rinoa's advice steps away from one of the bolted ones to climb aboard another.

"Aw, come on!" she cajoled, unable to help her own laughter. "You never accidentally got on one that didn't go up and down when you were a kid?"

[fightforastar]

"I've never been on one before," Tifa replies as the carousel begins to spin again. She only knew of them from picture books and the like.

"Seriously?"

How is that possible? Carnivals and carousels should be a part of every kid's life!

[fightforastar]

"Seriously. I grew up in a pretty small town."

Town isn't even the right word.

[sorcery_fledgling]

"But they never had a traveling carnival or anything come through?"

Just as she asks, the music kicks up, and the carousel slowly begins to turn.

"Ah, here we go!"

[fightforastar]

"Nothing this big," Tifa answers, raising her voice a bit to be heard over the music.

"Travelling performers or musicians sometimes." And usually just passing through on their way elsewhere.

That sounded kind of boring to her. But then again, Rinoa grew up in a big city, so she wasn't accustomed to small town life.

"I'm glad we went on then! Everyone should ride on a carousel once!"

[fightforastar]

Things had been very self-contained, but in no way boring. She'd had her friends and they'd gone off and done stupid kid things and come back covered in mud.

"Mhmm. And now I can check that off my list!"

[sorcery_fledgling]

"Though it makes me wonder what else you haven't done." Uh oh, Tifa. Rinoa might turn this into a Get-Tifa-to-do-all-the-things-she-should-have-done-by-now mission.

[fightforastar]

"Hey, I've done plenty of things!" Tifa protests. "They just maybe aren't very conventional things..."

In other words, it might be a long list by Rinoa's standards.

[sorcery_fledgling]

"Like what?"

Asked partly in curiosity, partly in challenge. Let's see what you got, Tifa.

[fightforastar]

"Well, let's see." Tifa thinks for a moment. "I've... climbed the Nibel Mountains. I've listened to the voice of the Planet. And, I've been to a city no one's lived in for thousands of years."

She's also infiltrated a brothel, driven a truck through a window, and been thrown in jail no fewer than three times, but those aren't really things you brag about.

"Wow! You've really been around, huh."

Aw, but Tifa! Those are the best stories!

Rinoa can begin to feel the ride begin to slow down, but she ignores it for the time being.

[fightforastar]

Those stories will come up sooner or later.

"Just about everywhere, it feels like."

Tifa swings one leg around, perching sideways on the seahorse to face Rinoa. They can go around again if you like, but this makes talking easier.

Excellent.

"It's neat, to see new places. New people and faces. Although circumstances can really shape the time there..."

As the ride comes to a stop, Rinoa dismounts her seahorse as well. Apparently one ride is enough for her, for now.

[fightforastar]

Tifa hops down from the seahorse and starts away from the carousel. Where to next?

"They can. But, sometimes you meet the best friends in the worst situations."

[sorcery_fledgling]

"That's completely true. I wouldn't have met the friends I have now back home if it weren't for some bad stuff happening."

She follows, looking around to see if anything else catches her eye. But maybe Tifa should pick next? If she sees something?

"You see anything interesting?"

[fightforastar]

"Same goes for most of mine."

There are some stalls with little carnival games and food-on-a-stick nearby, but something else has caught Tifa's attention.

"Looks like there's a roller coaster further in. You game?"

[sorcery_fledgling]

"Some way to meet friends, huh?"

...Did someone say roller coaster?

Although the height aspect makes her nervous, Rinoa loves the thrill of the ride, and there's no way she's passing it up.

"Definitely! Just don't mind me if I scream."

[fightforastar]

"It certainly makes it memorable."

At Rinoa's response, Tifa smiles and heads in the direction of the track visible above the other stalls and rides.

"I thought you were supposed to scream on these things."

[sorcery_fledgling]

"Tell that to Zone and Watts," Rinoa muttered, referring to her two friends from back home. "They always insisted wussies only screamed on rides."
