006 - Girls' Night Out

Tifa hadn't really been looking for ways to enjoy Vatheon while she was here, but she seemed to be getting a lot of encouragement to do so lately. And she found herself really looking forward to her girls' night out with Rinoa. Not that, to be honest, she was completely sure what the difference was between a 'girls' night out' and just a night out, but she supposed she'd learn.

She approached the entrance to the carnival, looking around for the younger woman. On finding she was the first to arrive, though, her attention shifted to the bright colors and lights within. The only thing she had to compare it to was Gold Saucer, and she wondered how it compared.

Rinoa would do her darnedest to show Tifa the meaning of a girls' night out. Not that it was usually much different from a regular night out, but it was going to be a fun one, regardless.

She was running a little late, mainly due to a last minute wardrobe malfunction. But now she can be seen running up towards the entrance, waving to Tifa, wearing her usual necklace and orange ribbon, symbolizing her ties to the Embryon.

"Hey, sorry I'm late!"

Tifa turns to greet her with a smile. She didn't think to dress up for the occasion, and is still wearing what she's had on the whole day--a pair of pants and a tank top. It seems a little strange wearing miniskirts in December, even with the bubble's controlled weather.

"I wasn't waiting long. You ready?"

but... Rinoa's not wearing a mini-skirt! XD

"Oh, good. Sorry. There was a rip and a lot of last minute clothes tossing." She adjusts her ponytail and orange ribbon before nodding. "I'm totally ready. I haven't been to a carnival in years."

Tifa normally is!

"Clothes tossing?" Tifa repeats in amusement.

"Well, let's go then." She turns for the gate, pulling out the tokens to pay the entrance fee. "Last time I was in one of these places, we were there on business." Well, it could have been more than that, but her nerve failed her.

oh FFFFFF i thought you meant Rinoa in that sentence. herp derp

"You know. Going through the closet and dresser, tossing everything aside to find that one article of clothing you're looking for."

Rinoa always thought other girls did that, but maybe it was unique to her.

"Business?" she inquires as she pulls out her own tokens. Luckily it's not expensive, so it only requires a couple tokens.

though Rinoa can start wearing them too if she likes =3

"Maybe you need to organize your closet a little better," she remarks, imagining the mess that Rinoa's room must have been after that, and maybe still is. Tifa's never really been one to deliberate over clothing she already owns (shopping is another matter).

She nods at Rinoa's question. "The owner had something we needed to borrow. We didn't spend too much time taking in the rides once he agreed."

Oh yes, there's a nice mess still. Which will be cleaned up, but she was in too much of a rush earlier. "I did have it organized. Once. But then I forgot to keep it that way so now it's not anymore."

Seventeen year olds cannot stay organized.

"Sounds kinda serious." Especially if they had to move that quickly, and not even go on one ride. Rinoa steps inside the carnival, waiting for Tifa to catch up.

Tifa follows her on in, looking around at the rides and stands visible from the entrance.

"I guess most things back home kind of are." For once, though, the thought of it doesn't cast any kind of shadow on her expression.

"Yeah, I know that feeling." Lately she doesn't feel like she's a teenager anymore. She hasn't for a little while, to be honest. Which is a big part of the reason she needs this night out as well.

Her footsteps slow when she spots something that catches her eye. "Oh, hey! I think I see a carousel!"

"A carousel?" Tifa tries to look for it herself, but she picks up on the music before actually catching sight of the thing as they draw nearer. Something about it isn't quite what she would expect for a carousel.

For one thing, there are no chocobos on it. Instead, it seems to be full of... seahorses?

"Huh. What are those animals?"

Rinoa's world is deprived of many of the kinds of wildlife found in most worlds. So she has no idea what seahorses or many kinds of marine life even look like.

Tifa is in a similar position. By now she's familiarized herself with animals commonly eaten or domesticated here, but she's sketchy on sea life even back home.

"They're some sort of fish. I'm not sure what kind."

[sorcery_fledgling]

"Well, I guess that would make sense? They seem to be all about fish and marine life here."

They still look weird, though.

"Wanna go on?"

[fightforastar]

"Sure. Then we get to say we've ridden fish."

She shakes her head a bit, not sure what sort of boast that would be. As the carousel comes to a stop to load up new passengers, she steps in to find a seahorse of her own.

"True! It'd be easier than trying to ride real ones, anyway."

Giggling, she hops onto a seahorse that catches her eye, after a moment of searching.

"Make sure to get one that goes up and down and isn't bolted to the floor."

Because clearly that's the most important part.

[fightforastar]

"I'm glad I'm with such an expert on carousels."

Tifa laughs, and on Rinoa's advice steps away from one of the bolted ones to climb aboard another.

"Aw, come on!" she cajoled, unable to help her own laughter. "You never accidentally got on one that didn't go up and down when you were a kid?"

[fightforastar]

"I've never been on one before," Tifa replies as the carousel begins to spin again. She only knew of them from picture books and the like.

"Seriously?"

How is that possible? Carnivals and carousels should be a part of every kid's life!

[fightforastar]

"Seriously. I grew up in a pretty small town."

Town isn't even the right word.

[sorcery_fledgling]

"But they never had a traveling carnival or anything come through?"

Just as she asks, the music kicks up, and the carousel slowly begins to turn.

"Ah, here we go!"

[fightforastar]

"Nothing this big," Tifa answers, raising her voice a bit to be heard over the music.

"Travelling performers or musicians sometimes." And usually just passing through on their way elsewhere.

That sounded kind of boring to her. But then again, Rinoa grew up in a big city, so she wasn't accustomed to small town life.

"I'm glad we went on then! Everyone should ride on a carousel once!"

Things had been very self-contained, but in no way boring. She'd had her friends and they'd gone off and done stupid kid things and come back covered in mud.

"Mhmm. And now I can check that off my list!"

"Though it makes me wonder what else you haven't done." Uh oh, Tifa. Rinoa might turn this into a Get-Tifa-to-do-all-the-things-she-should-have-done-by-now mission.
