The Doctor Arrives (again)

[A rather damp man in a tweed dress jacket and red bow-tie suddenly appears in the plaza next to the corral.

He spins around quickly, observing and taking in the scene before him in a rush of information.

He runs his hand through his hair nervously only to discover that it is wet.]

I'm wet. [He brings his hand down from his head and inspects it. Sniffs it. Then tastes it.]

Correction. [He looks down at the rest of himself and flaps his jacket out a few times as if to get rid of the excess liquid. He begins to straighten his bow-tie.] I'm soaked... [There is a pause.] with salt-water.

And I'm inside a bubble under an ocean next to an enormous piece of coral.

Ooookay. [He claps his hands together and tilts his head to one side and then the other.]

No TARDIS in sight. [He checks his pockets.] Sonic accounted for, that's good. [He removes his sonic screwdriver and takes a reading. There is a green light and an electric buzzing noise for a few seconds. It turns off and he flips the device up to his eyes to inspect the data.]

Well I haven't mis-aimed. There is certainly something odd about this place.

[He places the sonic screwdriver back in his waterlogged pocket.]

So here's a question. [He continues to talk to himself and walks in a semi-circle around the coral.]

Why does this feel oddly familiar?

[Fai is amused by the newcomers energy and he takes the towel to dry himself off a little.]

I've heard that sometimes people don't remember that they have been here before. But maybe if you have been the memories will return in time.

Oh, I see. [ She tilts her head when he gets down on one knee. ]

Someone said there was a lady that can communicate with it - but I've never seen her.

What? This old thing?

[He pulls out the device and wiggles it between his thumb and index finger.]

It's a sonic screwdriver. Useful for all sorts of things.

Made it myself. Well... mostly.

[As he talk he moves closer and offers a handshake.]

Hello, I'm the Doctor.

[thelastgallifreyan]

[The crazy and weird man stops talking to himself and looks only slightly apologetic or embarrassed about it.]

Aaaaahhh. So that's where this is. Or where I am. [He corrects himself.]Where we are.

Of course that doesn't quite cover all of it, does it? I'm not entirely sure where here is. The name seems a bit familiar, but the mind is a bit foggy still. I'm not at my best when water-logged. [He's half talking to himself and half-talking to the woman who just spoke.

He wipes his finger across the ground and licks it.

He smacks his lips together.]

That's odd. I can't quite place it.

[He looks at her inquisitively, now fully talking to her.]

Do you happen to know what year it is?

[The Doctor turns, not seeing anyone except the dog at eye level. He tilts his head. Talking dogs would be new.

A bit of movement draws his attention higher. Ah. That's more like it.]

Hello! [The Doctor approaches closer to Ed's hanging place, looking up at her.]

That's some impressive acrobatics.

Well that is very interesting.

What's your name? [He says cheerfully.]

[lucentpalisade]

[ She nods once, watching the man curiously. ]

My name is Sophie. What's yours?

[thelastgallifreyan]

[He scratches his head.]

It's not like me to forget things. [He pauses considering that.]

Important things. [He considers that too.]

About myself. [Yet again, this isn't quite the truth.]

At least not after traveling. Usually it's after I... [Regenerate? Die? He doesn't say that. It would only be more confusing.]

It's complicated.

I'm the Doctor.

[He holds out a hand.]

Very nice to meet you.

[The Doctor has little modesty when it comes to finding interesting or unexpected things.]

Oh.

Well you could have mentioned something about it earlier. [Again he juts out his chin and wobbles his head slightly.

He begins to walk back to the bathroom but continues the conversation.]

What kind of connection?

[No need to act so childish!]

We're still trying to figure that out. I can tell you what we do know, though. The coral seems to be what keeps us alive down here under the water. If we don't touch it at least once a month, we begin to grow ill. It can be used in place of sleeping and will accelerate the body's healing somewhat. It's a power source of some sort. Whether it's actually sentient or not is still up for debate. The High Priestess Thalassino seems to think so, and has even claimed that it can communicate. The scientists running experiments here treat it like an experimental subject.

[She pauses.]

That does not really say all that much about whether it may be sentient or not, though. We are their subjects as well. Sunday at midnight you may notice that marking glowing. That indicates the beginning of a curse. The effects are varied, I have a list if you would like to take a look. They are non-lethal and last for one week, ending the next Sunday at midnight. While the priestess was missing, it became apparent that these curses use up some of the energy the coral produces as its power dropped after each curse. Just what that may mean has not become apparent yet, but I and a few others have been tracking its energy level regardless.

Even if you keep up with touching the coral monthly, you may end up falling into a coma at some point. The cause hasn't been determined, but other than a potential for bed sores they're harmless. Most last no longer than a month.

[The Doctor reemerges with his new outfit. He is putting on his still wet bow-tie.]

We're trapped down here with no apparent way to escape, there a giant all-powerful coral that may be intelligent and has tremendous possibly space-time altering powers, there is a secret group of mad scientists that are toying with everyone's lives, a priestess, and inexplicable curses that appear out of thin air.

[He finishes with the bow-tie and snaps his fingers to emphasize his last statement.]

Sounds like fun.

[He goes back to collect his wet clothes and sits himself at a table, dumping his old clothes in a wet pile behind his chair.]

[She leans in closer to get a better look at the 'screwdriver'. She never seen anything quite like it but she was curious about the sound or how the light was made...]

Mostly? What do you mean?

[She stares at his hand before taking]

It's nice to meet you, I'm Shirley Fennes. It's nice to meet you Doctor...

[Fun? She looks at him incredulously, going to pick up the wet clothes and wash the salt out as well as put on a pot of tea. It sounds like a sarcastic statement, but somehow...]

Well, I cannot say that it's my idea of fun, but it isn't terrible.

[Just a quick rinse and she's drying them out with magic. It's easy to wick the moisture away with a spell. The salt? Not so much.]

Got a bit of assistance from a friend of mine, called the TARDIS. More of a spaceship really, but that's not really important.

[He smiles.]

Nice to meet you Shirley.

[He leaves the sonic screwdriver in his hand for her to see, but makes no move allow her to hold it.]

I think I've gotten a little lost. Where exactly are we?

[ This trouble maker is doing what he does best-making trouble as he pours soap into the fountain. He does it a lot so it's actually kinda boring but sometimes people have fun reactions. He's just finishing pouring the entire bottle in before he finally turns his attention to the new comer, hiding the empty bottle of soap somewhere in his jacket before moving over to him acting like he hasn't been doing anything he shouldn't be. ]

I think they call that Deja Vu, would you like a towel?

[ He pulls one out of nowhere that seems to still be halfway up his sleeve. ]

Of course, who would think something like this is fun?

Pfff.

[He clears his throat and looks about the welcoming center a bit randomly.

He notices Zelda as she works with his clothes. His eyes squint.]

What are you doing?

Not quite. However, I was one of those who volunteered to stay in the city as back up when it appeared on the island. Karkat Vantas was one of those who fought, and also a good source of information; it would benefit you to speak with hiim, so long as you do not mind a bit of swearing.

[Inspecting one item, he makes a small 'tch' beneath his breath and moves on. Eventually, he comes to what he's looking for, a peculiar kind of power source that almost seems more organic than mechanical. Satisfied, he goes to pay for it all, taking his SFC from his belt and removing a card from it.]

The Nostalgia Quarter only accepts payment in the form of tokens. You should have some already with your device. Jobs are available if you wish to get more.

[The Doctor turns his attention away from his external musings and towards the helpful lad.]

That would be amazing.

[He reaches to take the towel.]

[The troll moves fast and there are so many questions that the Doctor has.

He pats his pockets finding the communicator. He takes it out and gives it a once over before pocketing it again.

Jobs? There was working in the toy shop that one time, but it was special circumstances. He isn't enthused about the idea of getting a normal job.

Instead he affirms what Darkleer first mentioned, the Doctor's mind hopping about from point to point.]

Karkat Vantas. [He repeats the name to help cement it in his memory.]

That's some kind of power source isn't it?

[ Well... helpful might not be the right word as there seems to be a scarf tied to the corner of that towel and the teenager just grins ]

I'm Kuroba Kaito, by the way.

[ Pay no attention to the pink-foaming fountain. That's normal. ]

Drying your clothing. Do you not have magic on your world?

[How in the world is he an expert on time travel without magic? That's impossible, isn't it? She can't even begin to wrap her mind around the thought.]

[Normally the Doctor would offer a handshake but he's inspecting the scarf attached to the towel he's using.]

I'm the Doctor.

[He looks to the fountain and then back.]

Is that supposed to be doing that? [He begins to rub his face dry.]

Well this place isn't exactly known for being very normal, so its possible for it to make you do something that isn't normal. Like forgetting important things.

Look, I'm not falling for that one.

[He leans back in his chair and folds his arms across his chest.]

Underwater bubbles, giant god-like corals, the whole lot. I get it.

But magic? There's no such thing.
