I guess things got a little crazy for a while there. I even missed my own birthday last month. It looks like everything's back to normal now, though.

[Or close enough.]

So...

It's not too late to throw a birthday party, is it? I mean, you only turn eighteen once. I'm going to have it at my place this evening, if anyone wants to come.

[Yes, his place. He'll be moving back out of the Ordo house where he'd been staying with his friends. He's feeling ready now, and there's no need to make a mess of their house when he's got a place of his own.]

I'm at the Yutopil Apartments, in room six.

[With that he turns his starfish off. He's got a party to get ready for. Hmm. After a moment, he turns it back on and dials for Link's and Angelo's SFCs.]

Hey, Link, did you still want to help? And Angelo? You don't have to, if you don't want to. Just thought I'd ask.

[One way or another, though, come this evening, the apartment will be decorated and there will be food and drinks. Nonalcoholic drinks, Angelo.]

[After finding himself in the park naked - what, Loftwings don't wear pants - he's kind of eager for a distraction. And proper food. Oh, he definitely wants proper food.]

[Lloyd lucked out on the curse last week. He didn't get anything extra added besides what he already has permanently.]

I guess that depends. Are you any good at making cakes?

I've never made one before... [He brightens up a little.] But Zelda said she'd help me cook things, so you can leave it to me!

[Lloyd spent almost a month in her house. He knows this pretty well by now.]

It can't hurt to ask. If she's busy, though, don't worry. I'm sure we can think of something else.

[Surely Lloyd would be understanding of the fact that Kratos had turned into an animal last week and couldn't contact him, right? He does still want to help him learn to fly. His words are a little halting, Kratos isn't used to offering an explanation for his behavior without being prompted. Not to mention the fact that he'll be lying to Lloyd outright...]

Did you become anything last week, Lloyd? It was quite disconcerting.

[There, it's only half a lie, and it gives Lloyd a possible reason for why he was missing.]

[And then he pays attention to the content of the post. He sounds a little bewildered when he speaks again.]

[Lloyd immediately stills when he hears that voice, a big ball of emotions tangling up inside his chest. Kratos had promised to teach him as soon as he was released, but when that time had come, he'd just vanished. Lloyd had been trying not to think about it, trying not to let it get to him, but he couldn't ignore the hurt completely.

He hadn't thought about the curse.]

You... got changed? Into what?

[And then Kratos's other words catch up to him, making him feel like something just got yanked out from underneath his feet.]

[He can remember it with perfect clarity. In that moment he'd sworn to himself to never return to Cruxis, feeling like he'd truly learned what a life with emotions was worth.

He can remember when he thought he lost them both, too. How weak he'd been, how immediately he'd abandoned that vow in favor of not having to feel anything at all.]

[He'd never known his real birthday. He and Dirk had just picked one. He'd accepted a long time ago that he probably would never know when his real birthday was. He'd decided that that was fine with him, that the feelings were more important than the day itself. He'd stopped thinking to question when his birthday was.

It hadn't even occurred to him that the fact that Kratos was his father meant that he could ask. The realization floors him. His birthday. His real birthday.]

So you mean... I've been eighteen all this time?

[The earlier question of what Kratos had been has completely flown from his mind.]

[. . . Oh, hey. Yukari just turned 19 herself, so she's a little surprised to see Lloyd's broadcast. Pleasantly surprised, of course.

Ahh, she should've had a party, but she doesn't regret the day she spent out with Serph and Cielo; not to mention the sleepover with Kohaku. She chuckles a bit teasingly when the SFC turns on.]

Better late than never, I guess. Should we bring anything?

Nah. I didn't really give anyone any warning, so I don't expect anyone to bring anything. Just come and have a good time, okay? That's more than enough for me.
