It's a good week in the bubble! ...Then again, every week is fairly pleasant, temperature wise, in this little city under the sea.

But!

This week is extra pleasant, because there are training dummies set up all over the field in the park, all ready and waiting to be smacked around or smashed into itty bitty bits. Oh, but if hitting dummies aren't your thing, there are also targets for the archers and marksmen who want to get some target practice set up at the north end, cordoned off so people don't accidentally wander into the line of fire. And for those who'd rather play it safe or would like start learning the art of battle, there are plenty of practice weapons in... wheelbarrows? at the corners of the field.

Well, okay, this week would actually be unpleasant if you use the park for some peace and quiet. But for everyone else wanting to get some good old fashioned sparring and training in, this week's a great time to do it!

[Sera looks at the gun warily. In the past, she'd have flat out said 'no'. But after her experiences in Junkyard, she's realized they're a good means of self-defense.]

[Serph nods.]

All you need are eyes and fingers.

[To use a pistol, anyway. The other guns, like Argilla's sniper rifle, also need strength to carry them.]

[She'll have an amazing instructor, after all. She has no doubts Serph will show her the proper techniques.]

[Sera's seen him use his pistol numerous times before, so he skips the demonstration he gave Angelo. He trusts Sera, but, at the same time, she doesn't have the same kind of military knowledge he does, so there's going to be a lot of explaining.

Firstly...]

A gun should never be pointed at someone you're unwilling to kill. Even when you think it's unloaded.

[This is important.]

[That makes sense for the most part.]

Do people forget that their gun is loaded?

[Well... sometimes, but not usually. Serph removes the magazine in his gun, showing her all the bullets inside it. Pulling back the slide of his pistol, he shows Sera the bullet that's still nestled in the chamber. Clearly, removing the magazine isn't enough to completely unload the gun.]

It is easy to forget to remove the last bullet when it's not yet a habit.

[In one smooth movement, Serph loads the magazine back into his gun.]

[Ah, that makes sense. The gun has the last bullet out of the magazine and ready to shoot.]

I'll do my best to remember.

[But it's best to be prepared, isn't it? To try and prepare for things that are foreseeable. Well, since he's already in the process of showing Sera how to unload a gun...]

After taking out the magazine [he holds it up to show Sera that the thing he'd removed earlier was the magazine], remove the last bullet.

[And he shows her, pulling back the slide on the gun, ejecting the bullet onto his palm before he locksthe slide in place. He holds it up so she can see that yep, the gun sure is empty inside.]

Unless you can see the gun is empty like this, always assume it's loaded.

[Definitely empty. Though even without bullets, she thinks of it still as a dangerous tool.]

Could I try putting the magazine in and out without the bullets in it? I want to do it right, but... [She's a little scared it'll go off.]

[Serph nods, emptying the bullets in his magazine onto a nearby tray; he sure as hell can't fit 17 bullets on his palm. But before he hands his gun over...]

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Towards the ground is usually a good idea.

[And he holds out the gun and empty magazine for Sera to take.]
