Let's do one of those OPEN posts guys

[Zelos was out for the day, and Zelda had grown very used to his company in the week since Sola came back. Kind of disturbingly used to it, really. She decides to head out herself to do a little shopping and then go to the library. It seems like she has something on her mind, but when doesn't she?]

[This is the library in a multiversal world, it is the land of distractions. She makes sure to mark his place in all the books he was reading, then trots after him happily.]

[ He's gotten absorbed more or less staring at the language this book is in. There's another, green bound, under his arm, that holds the same angular ones as he'd been using, but Yes. So very distracted. ]

[Zelda tries to edge the book out from under Duke's arm so that she can read it. She is a little less easily distracted. The prospect of learning an entirely new way to control her power, one that's properly organized - well. She definitely wants that!]

[ Duke blinks when he notices her trying that, and lifts his arm so she can take the book. ]

... Can provide ordered list of characters and numerals, if you would like it.

[Judging from the way she's beaming up at him, she would like that very much.]

Are you sure? I don't want to be too much trouble, but I am admittedly interested!

[ How does he deal with people smiling that much at him.

Give him a moment of blank staring to try to figure out - ]

Should not be, paper can receive well enough.... [ A moment more of puzzled staring, and he'll go back to where they'd been sitting and turn to another page of the notebook. ]

[She knows better than to lean over him too much this time, but she doesn't hide her excitement. The elegant princess is gone, replaced by a very eager girl.]

I have noticed that when writing, you have to focus to make it in your native language! The Lamufao must be incredibly powerful to be able to make a spell with such nuance to it.

Hmmn. [ Duke spends a moment thinking about that.

Distractions.

He takes the pen in hand for a moment then writes a character a line - .. and then studies his handwriting.

It's not the best.

Remember that weird thing he'd been typing on earlier? He pulls it up again, shimmering and transparent. The main circle gains a very similar, but far neater set of characters, which he peels off and then presses into the paper.

Duke's handwriting, next to this, shows the roughness of someone who.. hasn't been writing to share with other people for a while. ]

[Oh Duke, you really need to work on your handwriting.]

Do you have a phonetic alphabet? If so, and if you don't mind, if you could make the corresponding sounds for me...

[She holds her hands out for the paper and pen. She can write it in her own language this way, and also associate the letters with sounds. Duke had a pleasant voice, it would make things easier to remember.]

[ He can read it, and it wasn't like he was going to write any letters to people. ]

... would be far simpler if it was a phonetic alphabet. [ Sorry to disappoint. ]

Quite alright, I don't mind if it's some other sort. It's interesting.

[She just sits back to let him explain it. I hope you like talking, Duke. ~~Oh wait...~~]

[ And thus he stares really blankly at her for a moment.

... what? ]

... It .. is of the sort where combinations make the sounds and there are rules that are barely followed consistently. [ And studying the book shelves. ]

.... Did not study languages....

I see! That is a type of phonetic alphabet, it should be fine. And thankfully, it appears to have the same amount of characters as my alphabet! Which one of these characters makes an "ahh" sound?

[Kindergarten with Zelda.]

... does phonetic not mean sounds as spelled; if it is not always the case how ... [ Okay, he'll get over naming confusion and go down the list that way.

With pauses for "sometimes it sounds like this," ]

[Zelda seems to get the hang of it fairly quickly. It's only 26 characters and numerical symbols, after all. Her spelling in this language might not be fantastic, but she'll be able to read. She writes her own name down in Duke's language neatly, glancing up at him to see if she's made a word or if it's gibberish.]

[ Spelling is always problematic. Just wait until he introduces words like entelexeia and adephagos.

But he does write a handful of the deceptive ones for her - like how two letters would occasionally sound the same as a different - ph and f, f and v, and some more.

He's studying her name. ]

...Curious combination; correct as I can tell.

Oh, good!

[She tries to read whatever he writes for her out loud, finding that when she does so Vatheon "translates" it to her ears. Such a strange city. It probably wouldn't have that effect for Duke. Her accent is a bit strange and she tends to approach consonants in a very soft manner, but for the most part she pronounces things correctly.]

[ That's okay, there was a man who had a very interesting drawling accent and liked to use words like "nein" he knew, it's all good.

He starts adding more math terms, and then arrows to parts of formula and thus more or less explaining what that first formula dictated for how it made that bubble of protection. ]

[Having an actual understanding of the formula, it all clicks into place suddenly. She folds her hands again, calling it up once more. This time the lines of the formula are present in her spellwork, though the color of the magic is still a light gold. That much will not change even if she does it right, it seems.]

Is this better?

[ And there's a repeat of Duke's eyes focusing on something else as he studies the formula, and a nod.

A tiny flicker of a smile - it's only really a twitch up at one corner. ]

Color seems to be due to your personal kind of magic; curious as to if all things shall be recolored curious possibility, may have to make note and test with various other formula

[She lets it drop after that.]

It's likely. Unless I'm utilizing an element directly, my magic tends to have that appearance.

[Zelda raises a finger, calling a small flame.]

For basic elemental magic the appearance is not altered.

[ Oh. That is definitely fascinating. Duke leans a little awkwardly close, but stops when his breath would cause the flame to flicker. ]

Curious. [ With Zelda's sense of magic, she might feel the magic that Duke held inside him - which, now that he's moving it, would be a collection of atmospheric mana and something a bit more raw than Mana - uncoil a little and ... more or less take an impression of what she's doing, the way someone can take a mold of an object to replicate it.

Which, by his somewhat puzzled expression, he's trying to figure out how to do with the more mathmatical version of magic he was familiar with. ]

[She grows quiet as he senses her spell, not entirely sure what to think of the sensation. It may not be possible to replicate exactly with his form of magic. Zelda has a lot of control over herself emotionally, but she is not a robot. It's simply not as precise as an equation - thought it does offer her a lot of flexibility to cast this way.]

I could try to teach you as well, if you like. Though perhaps not a fire spell...

Poor location for playing with fire.

[She dismisses the little spell, feeling a sudden pang of sadness. It was the same one she had used to make "trick candles" on Shizuo's birthday cake. Her ears tilt downward suddenly.]
