Digital Domestic Saga

[If you happen to be near the the forest quadrant, then you might feel the ground shake a little. Pretty strange, huh? But nothing to worry about, right?

The localised miniature quake can be traced back to a rather plain looking three storey building that has a grey flag with a bright orange stripe hanging from a pole sticking out of a window. A short distance away from the building, there's two people standing around a hole in the ground that certainly hadn't been there just moments before. A wheelbarrow containing a rosebush with orange flowers sits not far from them, and all along the ground are unopened sacks of dirt and a plethora of those mugs, some of which have fallen onto their sides. There's a bag containing seed packets and beans on the ground, too, and a recording of Sheik's Song of Healing can be heard playing on loop from a SFC nearby.

Serph eyes the hole for a little while longer before nodding to Cielo, giving him the signal to use another Magni Bomb. Which he does. Enthusiastically.

...That sure is another miniature quake happening. But the hole looks big enough for the rose bush, now.

Yep, this is what they've been saving their Starfish Tokens for. Approach?]

[ That's okay, Duke simply wouldn't have said anything at all about who he was or anything like that. So Serph is automatically better at this than Duke.

Duke nods slightly in greeting, tugs his gloves off, then finds something in his pockets to force his hair to stay behind his shoulders. ]

Any particular interest in placement?

That hole is for the rose bush.

[And then there's the various flowers and other plants. They were going to spend all day doing this. All. Day.]

[While you two are talking, Serph's bringing over one of the unopened bags of soil. They're going to need some dirt in the hole first before putting in the rose bush, right? Serph sets down the bag.]

Do you have something to open this?

[...Because he doesn't carry a knife or anything. This is well thought out, yep.]

Hmn. [ He looks between the rosebush and the bag of dirt, then the hole. ]

Usually best to loosen the roots of the plant before planting, easier for it to spread roots into the ground about the hole. [ Knives, knives...

That looks like a knife Duke might use on food. He'll just wash it later, opening soil bag at a corner with that. ]

I didn't know that.

[This gardening thing was more complicated than he thought it was. He heads over to the wheelbarrow and brings the rose bush closer. It's a good thing that Duke was here to tell them!]

[While Cielo's doing that, Serph's giving Duke a nod of thanks before tipping our a fair amount of soil into the hole. Since Duke knows more than they do about gardening, Serph is more than okay with handing over the lead to Duke.]

Is this enough?

[He'll let Duke do the root loosening! Since he... actually seems to know what he's doing.]

[ Duke looks over at the hole, the filled soil, and nods slightly. ]

hmn. Watch. [ So you can do this on your own next time, but not really as rude as that. Tilting the roses over, he breaks the shape of the pressed earth that came with the rose bush. ]

Does not matter of accidentally break some roots; will grow these back easier. The thick ones are the important ones. Add some water to your hole, will place the bush.

[And Cielo does watch! Very intently! So that's how they're supposed to do it.

When Duke tells them to put water in the hole, Cielo obliges, pouring some water from a nearby watering can over the soil.]

[Serph understands demonstration in order for others can do things on their own later, so he doesn't find Duke's manner rude at all. He, too, is watching and listening intently when Duke loosens the soil. Plants are really quite hardy, if they can grow back lost parts ~~like Bat~~.

He nods in acknowledgement of Duke's last statement and watches Cielo pour the water. Though Duke had said he'll place the bush, it's quite a large one and still has thorns, so Serph will help him.]

[ Duke had been thinking of cheating to lighten the bush, but nods at Serph for the help. Right. Thorns. carefully finding a grip about them, the other hand near the roots...

And one bush in a hole! Yaaay. ]

A little more soil to bring the level to near even, but little lower than ground level. Allows more water to be trapped for the plant's use...

[It's in! Cielo happily adds the required soil to the plant.]

It looks great. Thank you for your help!

[Yeah Serph hadn't been able to find a place to hold the rose bush without wrapping his hands around thorns, so he had held the bush while having thorns cut into his palms. Eh, it's no big deal.

He, too, gives a nod in thanks.]

Did you garden in your world?

[Duke is so knowledgeable!]

... Time to time; mostly for own food. [ He just likes books.

Although is Serph sure his hands are fine? Duke's got some mild pricks on his own hands, so he may give a glance to the state of Serphs. ]

[He notices you glancing over at his leader's hands there, Duke.]

Something wrong?

[Now you've got Serph looking as well. Nope, nothing to worry about here. He intends to just let the blood well up and scab over; it's not worth using medical supplies or a Diarama on them.

So he tilts his head, questioning, too.]

.... [ A slight head tilt. Duke isn't particularly comfortable around blood but... He's not really attached to Serph either.

So he doesn't offer healing. ]

Best to clean bleeding injuries when dealing with soil; many forms of fertilizer is animal dung. [ That said, he's going to study the rest of the area and their planting supplies. ]

Wish for more aid?

[Oh, right. Wounds needed to be cleaned. It's just that Cielo is used to injuries far more serious than thorn pricks.

Well, Serph can take care of that on his own.]

Do we need anything else?

[Oh. One of Serph's hands is already halfway to his mouth so he can lick the cuts by the time Cielo addresses him. Yes he's looking very dignified right now, really!

While they don't really need anything else since they intended on just spending their day puttering around their makeshift garden...

He addresses Duke.]

Only if you wish to.

[He won't say no to having Duke's presence around for longer.]

[ Duke tends to lick his mild cuts before healing them too, it's all good.

.... He can take a break form research. ]

Breaks in bookwork are occasionally needed; where next?

[Over to the seed bag he goes!]

We have a bunch of these smaller plants. We're going to plant them in these.

[He gestures to some of the mugs on the ground.]

[Serph nods in acknowledgement. He's glad Duke will be hanging around with them for a while longer.

The cuts on his hands are already scabbing over, so he walks off to gather some of the mugs and bring them over. He and Cielo have little use for so many mugs, and it'd be a shame to waste them.]

... Depending on what you plan to plant... [ Duke's going to inspect one of the mugs. ]

The reason so many pots for planting have holes in the bottom is for draining - without one, the soil can not be rid of excess water, and one tends to start growing moss more than original plant. May not be hard to find a good balance; more accustomed to planting in the ground than in pots and maintaining them.

[Reaching into the seed bag, Cielo pulls out packets of tulip, grass, and herb seeds along with some beans.]

These.

[If too much water is a problem, they'll just have to be careful to not add to much.]

[But perhaps it's best to actually ask the expert!]

If we don't water excessively, will that be fine?

[Otherwise, they'll just have to find a way to make holes that won't shatter the mugs]

Should. Do not let the soil become powdery and... [ Studying the bean plants. Pole climbers or bushes? ]

These may be more suited for the ground than a pot...
