You Can Learn a Lot of Things from the Flowers

Valentine's week, and Selphie was keeping herself very, very busy working away in the flower shop. It was the busiest time of the year, after all. Selphie will be spending her week keeping the shop clean and tidy, rearranging the stock, tying ribbons and pink decorations to everything. She's even done a commerical, which will basically involve Selphie explaining how super important Valentine's day is, and giving a 360 shot of the front of the store to show off all the pretty bouquets.

Talking to customers, giving recommendations too, has Selphie rushed off her feet all week. She's taking her work seriously. So if you're just passing by, or need help with the right flowers to get your loved one, Selphie will be there to greet you - and she's wearing pink this week too especially, even tied a ribbon in her hair. Some come on down, lovers and friends, get your flowers here!

*Selphie smiles and moves out the way, holding the door open for the girl. She watches her go about the shop, appreciating the flowers. And that's really nice to see*

Ah? Actually, no; I was told to come here by someone named Aya...

[ A sheepish pause as she fidgets in front of Selphie. ]

I kind of want to work here...

*Oh, so she knew Aya. Selphie smiles brighter at that, making more of a fuss of getting the girl through the door and comfortable*

Aya's not here right now - he's gone to get some stuff from town. But my name's Selphie, and I work here too! Come on in and I'll tell you all about it!

[ She noticeably relaxes around Selphie after a few moments; she really is the sweetest girl she's met! ]

What kind of things does this shop usually do, then? Besides selling flowers, obviously...

*Selphie looks at the girl and thinks about this for a moment*

Well...we sell flowers.

*She isn't sure if there was something else that she was supposed to add here, so she just continues*

Aya's the real talent behind it all - he's the one who does all the pretty flower arrangements. And then I charm the customers into buying them all!

Does he? He definitely does good work... I like how some of these arrangements are put together!

[ Shiemi wanders over towards one of the arrangements as she speaks. ]

Like, for example... this one is that of violets, acacias, red roses and apricot blossoms, right? The violet and the red rose are both "love" flowers... however, the violet stands for faithful love, as opposed to the rose's meaning of just "love".

So it could be a love bouquet... but then there's the acacias and the apricot blossoms. The former represents friendship in floral language, while the latter represents diffidence, shyness.

So... to me, this bouquet isn't that of romantic love, but... perhaps, the sender wants to give these to a friend as a thank you for staying so close to them, except they're too shy to admit it to the other. At least, that's what I read from this bouquet...

*Standing just a little bit behind the girl, Selphie's jaw drops open slightly as she listens to her. For a horrible moment, Selphie wonders if Aya's brought this girl in to replace, young as she was. She definitely knows far more than Selphie*

Wow! You sure know a lot about flowers!

[ Actually, Shiemi's here to see if she can offer a few other services for the flower shop, as well...

But that's probably best for another time. In any case, she smiles a little sheepishly, scratching the back of her head. ]

A-ah... it's nothing, really. I was raised in my Grandma's flower shop back home, so I know a lot about plants in general...

*Raised in a flower shop? At this stage Selphie can't help but smile, and really brightly. How could she feel threatened by such an adorable girl? She was like a flower herself!*

Wow! You sure do. I bet Aya would love to have someone around to talk to about flowers. I only know what I think looks pretty... Heh.

Ah... that's not a bad thing, though! Even without knowing the meaning behind flowers, there's nothing wrong with looking at them...

[ She giggles, smiling fondly as she closed her eyes. ]

Back home, sometimes I'd just spend the day watching over the flowers... sometimes Grandma would find me asleep in the middle of the garden, too.

*Well, that was true. Flowers were there to pretty, really. Selphie watches the girl and tilts her head - she was a cute but curious young thing*

Aww, that's really sweet!

[ She giggles. ]

Many of my most precious memories revolve around my Grandma... though I now have cherished memories of my friends, too.

Well, that's really nice that you have all of those memories!

*Because, y'know, Selphie has lost a lot*

I've only spoken to him over the Network, but I do plan to speak with him in person today, too...
