We are in a place where the natives thought killing one of their own would make a good prank.

Their humor isn't for everyone, of course.

Death is never humorous!

[Touchy, touchy. People always got in a tiff about death.]

People die every day. It's unfortunate, but it can't be helped.

[Maybe it was Jade's own odd sense of humor, or maybe it was that lingering sociopathic inability to process death as others did. The inability to grieve, or at least do so properly, certainly made it hard for Jade to understand the emotional spectrum of responses to someone they didn't know dying. It wasn't his business anyways.]

It can be helped, that's what we try to do, why we fight!

If people could always be helped and never die, we'd all be immortal and this conversation wouldn't have even come up.

It's not about them never dying, it's about doing what we can to make the world a better place.

And as long as there's humanity, there is hope for redemption.

[Jade chuckled, ending on a trailing note before he sighed.]

Humanity can be curiously determined in these matters.

That's a good thing. The consequences of giving up can be severe.

Some are quite determined to be lazy or greedy.

I don't believe that.

Believe it or not, I've witnessed it firsthand.

Even when they choose such a thing, they often have a motivation past it.

You certainly are determined to see the good in everyone, even if it isn't there.

That's because we disagree on the question of whether or not it's there.

So we do.

Sometimes it can be so obvious, though, and overall you just need to look sometimes.

I think we can agree to disagree.

[Jade's gentle way of saying that the topic was over. They had differing opinions and Jade had heard enough about 'inherent good' in people to throw up puppies.]
