[ Mithos has been sitting next to the Coral for a while now. Every day for the last week, he's come back to his little bench near the coral, sitting there for hours at a time, staring at it, as if he were hoping someone he knew would be there. He knew it was the time of month when people started arriving, but... once again, he was disappointed, and saddened. She still wasn't here. She still wasn't going to arrive.

And he was still terribly alone.

Today was the last chance he had, until next month. And of course, Martel wasn't there. Fighting back tears again, Mithos slowly, reluctantly, gets to his feet, and slowly starts to walk away, back towards his apartment, his eyes glued to the ground.

And he might just walk into your character. ]

I don't think there's anything.

[It's not simply a brush off, it's an acknowledgement of Ky's want to assist instead of a "get lost". Zelos was in a precarious mood to begin with but this thing with Mithos just tipped it over into 'bad' territory. Only... not the kind of bad that makes him snap and be an ass, the kind of bad that makes him quiet and evasive. He knows that was stupid, he should have let it go, gotten more hats and been on his way.

[Normally he wouldn't announce it so readily but Ky had helped him and the last thing he should get for his trouble is Mithos' wrath. Nope, better to take the blame so Ky wouldn't do anything foolish.]

Even so, his response was clearly disproportionate. And he was willing to do worse.

[Zelos heaves a morose sigh.]

Look Ky, I get that this whole love and justice busybody thing of yours is your way of trying to take care of people and that's fine and dandy but believe me when I tell you there isn't a damn thing anyone can do about Mithos and his disproportionate responses. If you try you'll get hurt. It's that simple.

And if I don't do anything, then what? You get hurt? Inaction is rarely the right response.

Maybe I'll finally learn to keep myself in check!

[He grins an animated grin to show Ky it's not as bad as all that.]

While it would be good for you to consider what's appropriate to say and what isn't, I don't think beating it out of you is an acceptable method. Nor would it work.

[That just makes Zelos laugh a bit and clap Ky on the back.]

Look, just table it for now. I'm still feeling like crap and I could use a stiff drink, both of which can be fixed at the club so why don't you help me on over there, alright? I'm not quite sure I'm steady enough to make it on my own.

[Lies, he's totally able, he just doesn't want Ky running off after Mithos. He's sure the swordsman will go find him later regardless, but at least then there's a chance the little angel will have cooled off and Ky won't get hurt, at least.

I'm reasonably certain that the last thing you need right now is alcohol. I'd be happy to help you home and get you a glass of water.

[Actually yes, home is even better. Home is further away from where Mithos went. Of course, if he agrees without whining or anything Ky'll figure something's up.]

[Just teasing. Mostly to cover up that he still feels pretty terrible. Even so, he leans on Ky just a little to get moving again towards his house.]

Alright, fine, I'll forgo the booze. I haven't touched any in months anyway, why start now?

[Ky just looks satisfied when Zelos says he'll forgo the booze.]

I'm not going to police what you do within your own home, within reason. But I'm glad, you'll...recover faster this way.

[He shrugs a little, shuffling along in silence for a time as they get moving down towards Ordo. At length, though, he feels the need to speak again.]

...why are you helping me, anyway? I haven't exactly been super friendly.

You don't need to be friendly to deserve help. You don't need to be anything, really -- everyone deserves help. Besides, even if we don't get along, you're still a good person.

[That stops Zelos cold, staring at Ky like he'd grown a second head. He stays that way for a long moment, long enough to get marginally uncomfortable, and then starts laughing. It's an honest laugh too, though there's a sense that it's not entirely mirthful; more of a self depreciating, incredulous laugh and it goes on for quite some time.

Damnit Ky you're just so earnest and naive!]

[Ky bristles at the laughter, not appreciating it at all. He hasn't said anything at all ridiculous, and certainly not anything that he doesn't believe!]

Careful, you'll strain something.

[As if on cue (which it is) Zelos groans theatrically, holding his side at some small ache or pain made worse through laughing. He's done talking, for now. He can't bring himself to crush that sort of idealism like he probably should, get those good thoughts about a bad guy like him right out of that stupid blonde head.

But he can't. Not right now anyway. Right now he'll just quietly shake his head, a grin still curling the corners of his lips, and let Ky escort him home.]
