2nd Combo - A Fairy Tale Knight
Characters: Lloyd Irving and every eligible-- everyone
Location: All over the place
Time: From dawn until dusk
Style: You pick and I'll match
Status: Open
[It's been two days since he started coming to his senses, the false memories of that other life already fading back into the ether of whatever spell had created them. As they disappear, though, he remembers. The ball, the one he'd danced with, that moment of timeless magic when their eyes had met and their hearts had known.
The tolling of the bell as midnight approached.
His partner had fled, he didn't know why - but they'd left their shoe behind. The shoe he now holds clutched in his hands. It must have been crafted with magic, he knows, because there is no other way to explain how the delicate glass could support a person's weight without breaking. Surely this shoe was made to fit one foot and one foot alone. It's the only clue he has to the identity of his love. He doesn't even know his love's name or gender. He only knows that they hold his heart.
And that he's going to find them, even if he has to try this shoe on every person in the land.
Speaking of which...
He approaches the next person he sees, giving them a bow fit for the knight he is.]
Excuse me, yes, you. Your pardon, but can I have a moment of your time?
[ooc: Only a "Cinderella" will fit the shoe. Let me know if this is the case. o/]

+1 troublemaking sphinx?
Well, Duke's blinking at that little shoe, sitting firmly in the way of the teen like a stubborn cat. ]
If you answer a question.
no subject
What kind of question?
[Almost reflexively, his eyes dart to Duke's feet. This couldn't be his love... could it?
No, he's pretty sure he'd remember if his love was a lion with wings.]
no subject
Or you can take another path.
no subject
Can't you just let me by? I'm looking for someone right now. It's important.
no subject
You answer the question, take another path, or... [ Toothy cat-like smile. ]
I doubt you would enjoy the last, so focus on the first two options.
no subject
Fine, ask your question.
[He just wants to get on with this.]

Lined with skin as soft as silk
In a fountain crystal clear
A golden apple does appear
There are no doors to this stronghold
But thieves break in and steal the gold.
What am I? [ Watching Lloyd intently now, with that unnerving ability of a cat to never blink. ]
no subject
[He huffs and stares right back.]
no subject
Really.
Congratulations, Lloyd, you've stumped the sphinx. that wasn't the answer to his riddle.
Not even close. ]
no subject
[Come on, that was clearly the answer. How much more obvious does it get?]
no subject
But Duke gets up like he's going to get out of the way... only to bat at Lloyd's shoulders with one paw. You got it wrong.
But he's wondering if its really worth it. Something that stupid.. probably wouldn't taste that good.... ]
no subject
[Lloyd barely jumps back in time to avoid the paw. In one hasty motion, he pulls out his swords. An angry scowl darkens his face.]
Hey! What was that for?!
no subject
no subject
What are you talking about! My answer fit everything you said!
no subject
Okay, so maybe it was a bit of a scratch more than anything, but a little startling.
Duke rears a bit, spreading his wings for balance, and is going to try to bop Lloyd on the head with one paw after the other. ]
no subject
[He dodges one blow, then another, but the sphinx's relentless attacks are difficult to keep up with. Claws rake across his head when he's just a hair too slow, and with a cry he nearly goes down.
But he doesn't. Through sheer force of will and years of training he keeps his feet. He ignores the hot blood he can feel streaming down his head and lashes out with one sword, then the next, trying to drive the sphinx back.]
no subject
A bit off balanced by the quick strike back - a cut along one foreleg, some fur trimmed as he tries to back away - and sort-of stumbles at it.
Wait.
He has wings.
He should use those. ]
no subject
Still, he stubbornly refuses to back down from his point.]
If you're going to describe something, you shouldn't use words that it's not.
no subject
You are not familiar with the purpose of similes and metaphors, then. [ Diving - for a flyby attack rather than a sit on Lloyd. paws one two, three four? ]
no subject
[Does that answer your question, Duke?
When the sphinx dives down, Lloyd braces himself and slashes his swords up, one then the other, hoping to keep the monster back.]
no subject
[ Okay, so he doesn't want to put his paws in the way of that, so some quick flying altering - but take a back paw aimed at the head. ]
no subject
[There isn't enough time to swing his swords back around from fending off the front paws, and one of Duke's back paws clips solidly into his head. He goes down with a tumble that he barely has the presence of mind to turn into a roll. He knows he can't afford to stay in one place long!]
no subject
The kid was stupid. Even if that meant little to the role, what if the stupid meant that he'd ... taste bad, as the best he could come up with that wasn't silly.
And it is a good thing that Lloyd rolled away - Duke does the best tight turn he can and would have landed on him otherwise.
Since Lloyd is rolling, can Duke help him continue that with a paw?
It's like a ball!]no subject
Dammit, this isn't working. He's not strong enough to take on this beast by himself! If this keeps up, he's dead.
Fighting against the pain and blood loss, he keeps his swords up and backs up another step. If only he had a way to distract the sphinx...
A chirp in the air grabs his attention - and offers a straw to grasp at.]
Hey, that's a bird!
no subject
... Probably tastes better than you would. [ Looking for that bird now~! ]
