Who: Liz and Kid
When: idk some time this week
Where: the Villa
Style: [ probably this because fuck it ]
Status: Closed 8U
[ So.
This pretty much sucks.
Liz has spent the last few days picking up every last crumb, sweeping up every last dust bunny, and reordering everything like she's possessed. Or maybe like she's a certain child of a certain death god. Who knows. The whole thing is just eerie.
At the moment, she's on her hands and knees in front of the couch in the living room with a pair of scissors. She might be snipping string hanging off the bottom of the couch.
Kid your life is hard. ]

[This is probably not the position she wants to be in, when walked in on by anyone, but maybe if it's her neurotic Meister, it's less of a blow to the ego.]
I'm not used to having such meticulous help around the Villa.
[It's not criticism of her work so much as habit that has Kid's golden gaze stoically scouring every visible inch of the room, but in time, his eyebrows lift, his eyes widen. Even his arms unfold to fall at his sides.]
...Actually, you've done a splendid job.
no subject
Than--
[ No Kid your hair. Why. Why does this have to be a thing. Why. Life would be so much better if they could just pain the full circles on. Make it complete and perfect and good and--
She promptly clutches her head and slams her face into the couch cushion to let out a low scream into it. ]

It's only because Kid has probably done the same exact thing to his own reflection that he isn't completely flummoxed by Liz's reaction; he puffs out his cheeks in a moment of pique, and then passes a hand over his hair, suddenly self-conscious, painfully aware of his asymmetrical stripes.]
Oh dramatize. [Kid! Like you don't anyway!!]
You don't have to go so far as to mock me!
no subject
Liz pushes herself up to her feet, takes her hat from where she had set it aside before going thread snipping, and... promptly shoves it onto Kid's head without any warning. ]
I'm not mocking you! Just... leave that on for a while.
no subject
This is further confirmed when he pulls on the brim of that hat, making certain it engulfs those hated lines.]
Never mind.
What ever is the occasion, Liz? I meant it when I said this is rare.

[ :(!!!!!!!! ]
Everything I look at is just wrong and I--
[ Oops hold on gotta fix the cushions on the couch and pull it forward a half an inch. Must have moved it when she hit her head. ]
--have to fix it.
no subject
[Leaning over the back of the couch to stare at her, his fists on his hips, he scrutinizes the Weapon more directly. No, Liz has cracked jokes, but this smacks of sincerity.]
Wrong in a sense that you can't simply leave it alone?
no subject
[ YOU UNDERSTAND. ...Well of course you understand you're Kid. ]
That's it exactly. Fixing it is the only thing keeping me even remotely sane.

VALIDATION.]
2/2
While it's nice that you finally understand the problem around here, the sudden onset leaves me with little choice but to believe you may be under the effects of a curse.
[Which is... disappointing, actually.]
If it gets too much, spend some time reading the book on the second shelf on the left side of our room. It will help, I promise.
[That photo book full of gorgeous, high definition black and white photographs of highly symmetrical structures was a gift from Rin Okumura, and you bet Kid treasures it.]
no subject
Second shelf on the left. Got it.
[ And then she just pauses for a second before looking up at him. ]
So this is how it feels every single day, huh?
no subject
[And here, Kid requires a pop quiz. He prompts with:]
Your opinion on the credenza in the foyer?
no subject
[ Wait. ]
At least I'm pretty sure I did.
[ Hold on. ]
But someone might've bumped it since then.
[ Ran right into it. ]
Or knocked something off.
[ Without even caring!!
There's this tense moment where she just stares at Kid in horror before she promptly turns on her heel. ]
I'll be right back I need to go check.
no subject
They probably even sigh with relief at the same time.]
The answer is 'yes', by the way.
[That's exactly how he feels all the time.]
no subject
I'm sorry.
[ Sincere, if not tinted with a little pity. ]
For a lot of things.
no subject
[And he's spent the last six months here trying to get over it, even if every step forward is often accompanied by a step back.]
The least I can do is spare my friends the trouble.
[His hand alights on her shoulder anyway, because for all that the reaper is often hands-off as a general rule, there are certain things best conveyed with these little gestures.
It's alright.]
You have nothing to apologize for.
no subject
Well, actually...
[ And here's where he just might notice something else a little off about her. Some sort of hesitancy winding its way through her body. ]
...I haven't been completely honest with you since I got here. About status updates from home, I mean.
no subject
I haven't been exactly forthcoming about updates here, either.
[Which sort of makes them even, if in a less than ideal circumstance.]
Let's remedy this, shall we?
no subject
[ There's a tiny smile, and Liz turns to head back into the living room again to have a seat on the couch. She folds her legs underneath her and sits sideways so that she can face him if he chooses to sit at the other end. ]
So do you have good news or bad news, 'cause mine ain't exactly great. So if yours is good, we might wanna start there. Soften the blow a little bit. Maybe.
no subject
However, he slings an arm over the back, the way he does when he's relaxed, at ease in his own skin. It couldn't have been that bad news. Liz would have been likely inconsolable if something terrible had happened to Patti, so he doesn't press her immediately for the details. It's likely about some kind of setback. Perhaps the Kishin got away.
Kid is eager to explain himself, in any case.]
I'm not sure how to begin, I suppose I could say that I've started dating.
[HAHAHA YEAH RI--oh god he is totally serious.]
no subject
[ Do you hear that sound, Kid? That's the sound of Liz's spirit leaving her body. Woooooooooosh.
If it were anyone else she would automatically assume it was a joke but... but Kid doesn't do that. ]
You're what now.
no subject
Dating.
[And, as if aware this is different and probably weird, he stiffly coughs into the fist he raises to his mouth, averting his eyes.]
To be precise, we haven't gone on any dates yet, but we are seeing each other. Maka didn't mention anything to you?
[BUT ISN'T MAKA DATING SOMEONE ALREADY?]
no subject
No she--
[ wait. ]
But. Isn't she seeing that Rin guy? Did they break up?
no subject
[And to make everything even more unbelievable. And confusing:]
I'm dating him, too.
[Liz is now free to vacate her body in shock.]
no subject
[ We're sorry. The Thompson you are trying to contact right now is unavailable. Please leave a message after the beep. Thank you. ]
