i've got something to tell ya [closed]
Who: Liz and Kid
When: idk some time this week
Where: the Villa
Style: [ probably this because fuck it ]
Status: Closed 8U
[ So.
This pretty much sucks.
Liz has spent the last few days picking up every last crumb, sweeping up every last dust bunny, and reordering everything like she's possessed. Or maybe like she's a certain child of a certain death god. Who knows. The whole thing is just eerie.
At the moment, she's on her hands and knees in front of the couch in the living room with a pair of scissors. She might be snipping string hanging off the bottom of the couch.
Kid your life is hard. ]

[ Sorry she just. There are so many things about this that aren't right. But... ]
I'm sorry I'm just... y'know. More than a little stunned. But happy for the three of you! As long as you're all happy, I mean.
[ She... guesses? ]
no subject
[Go on, Liz, tell him like it is.]
I meant to tell you sooner, but the last few days have been busier than expected.
no subject
[ There's a slight pause as she thinks about how to say this but... well, hell, there's no soft way to say this. ]
I just didn't think... you had it in you? I mean, let's be honest, Kid... you're not really the dating type.
[ Basically you could hit the Lust chapter of that stupid book and never transform at all. ]
no subject
There's a lot to that story, and some of it would only inspire more questions, but the kinds that Kid can't answer with confidence because he had only learned of them second-hand. Even third-hand.
So it's after some silence before he attempts to explain.]
Of course not. I am, after all, a grim reaper.
[That he will undoubtedly live to see them play out the last of their days is a fact of which he is keenly aware.]
The fondness I have for them both defies quantitative explanation. I should be worrying about it, not entirely understanding something that effects me greatly, but the knowledge that they feel the same about me results only in a profound sense of calm.
no subject
All of the love, none of the making out.
She can get behind that.
Yeah.
Yeah, okay.
Once that seems to settle in her mind, she actually relaxes a bit and nods. ]
I really am happy for you, Kid. Even if I think Maka needs to spill her secrets.
[ Two boyfriends it's not fair. ]
no subject
Try not to break too badly when they're inevitably caught napping in a pile together or kissing. You can have physical intimacy and affection without it being sexual--and it's still romantic.
Mindblowing, huh.
Still, Kid's relieved when Liz seems to ease into the matter.]
Secrets? What secrets?
no subject
[ she wants to kiss and nap with someone too gosh. ]
That's all.
no subject
Is this a general source of woe, or has someone in particular caught your eye?
[Kid, don't tease her about this, it's not nice and... okay, admittedly, kind of exactly what a guy friend would be doing, ugh.]
no subject
I'm so not even bothering to answer that.
[ RUDE
she's not actually mad tho ]
no subject
Then, what about this news you were going to share with me?
[Bad news, she said.
Can't have been about Patti. He wrinkles his nose with sudden distaste.]
Excalibur didn't show up, did he?
no subject
[ Thank you for the subject change though, Kid. Even if it's going to be an awkward one. ]
Okay. So... we're all on the moon, right? And we're fighting Chrona, who's decided that it's time to swallow the Kishin. Or merge with it. Or whatever.
[ Pause. Wait. ]
--Wait, did you know that much yet?
[ Hell of a time to ask him now. ]
no subject
Maka doesn't, I don't think, but please go on.
no subject
[ Note to self: Don't bring up what Crona's up to. ]
The Kishin took over. He sort of has a lot to say. And... a pretty good portion of it has to do with you and... really, the whole Death family.
Mostly because he's... kind of a part of it.
[ AWKWARD AS HELL PAUSE. ]
Kid, he's... he's your brother.
no subject
Maka believes that they can still reach that unfortunate child and, indeed, if not for her unwavering courage he would have thought Crona's situation entirely hopeless. But Maka trusts that their souls will reach through the Kishin's deep shadow of Madness--]
...
[There's a tumble backwards through his most recent memory, to recollect what she had just said.]
What? What was that? My...
[A burst of static might best describe how well Kid processes this new piece of information. That has to be a joke. It's an awful one. He should scoff.
But Liz is serious.]
Brother? That's not possible!
no subject
I wish this was an awful joke I'm telling you, but it's not.
[ sigh ]
I'm sorry.
no subject
No! I won't believe it!
[He's on his feet before he knows it, and by the end he's yelling so loud it makes him bend forward.]
That can't be true! Father would never-- something that revolting could never--
THAT'S INSANE!
no subject
Liz is moving almost instantly to sit in front of him, her hands coming out to take a firm hold of his. She will go coddle your soul so help her god. ]
Kid. Kid. Look at me.
[ And then she's squeezing his hands, trying to ground him somehow. It'd be so much easier if Patti were here... ]
Just at me, alright? Just focus right here.
1/3
He wasn't ready to find out the antithesis of everything he is just so happens to be more closely related to him than he could have ever possibly imagined.
There's no Black*Star here to remind him that the battle needs to be won, so to stuff the cyclical nosedive of his thoughts. He argues, hotly, as if volume alone might make it true:]
The Kishin's lying, can't you see? He's lied to you!
[But at least he looks, like she tells him to, and the certainty in her gaze is more effective a persuasion than words.]
2/3
...
[His gaze darts to the right; Kid's thinking about it, starting to draw connections, little things that lend veracity to her certainty. It darts to the left, next, and he's coming to conclusions.
None of them are comforting.]
3/3
And he makes exactly the sort of sound any child might be expected to make, when faced with a calamity they can't yet understand.]
Why?
no subject
[ Just gonna slide off the couch so they're on even ground, here. ]
I don't know. I don't know a lot of things, really. But I do know this: you may be related, but that doesn't make you brothers. Patti and I are sisters not because we have the same parents, but because we're there for each other when we need it most. We save each other.
...And ever since you saved us, you've become our brother. Okay? Blood isn't everything.
no subject
But it doesn't get worse, that noise didn't turn into screaming, which means he hasn't sunk further. That he's listening.
Maybe he can't fully appreciate what she's said yet, but he will later, when he's calmed down enough to try to take a more rational look at a revelation that's shut him down.
Blood isn't everything.
He's heard something like that before.]
no subject
When she sees her friend (no, boyfriend) in the state he is, she collapses next to him, out of breath but still clearly concerned. It takes her a moment to see that Liz is there, though it only causes more questions to pop up in her mind.]
K-Kid?
[This is embarrassing to do in front of Liz, but--Maka brushes aside his fringe and touches the hand covering his head.]
no subject
He was worried, even if his slower steps didn't quite show it. Kid had sounded absolutely frantic, like Rin had at the start of the curse when he woke up to find his vision compromised by an ability he didn't know how to shut off. Though there was something else about Kid's tone Rin picked up even from the second floor - disgust, disbelief, all with so much vehement emotion and force behind it that was impossible to ignore. Kid could be over-dramatic, but whatever was going on sounded pretty damn genuine.
With Maka ahead of him, she got to Kid first, leaving Rin to trail in behind scratching his messy hair and looking down at Kid with obvious concern as he tried to wake up enough to register more than 'something is wrong'. He looked to Liz for answers, though, thinking Kid might not be in any state to answer himself.]
What's goin' on... ?
no subject
Why didn't his Honorable Father tell him of the Kishin's true origins?
Why would he have such a dangerous, appalling monster for a child?
If the Kishin is just like him... can he trust himself to not fall again into madness when he finally matures as a grim reaper?
How could Madness and Fear be born of Order?
The touch of Maka's hand on his prompts his fingers to lift, cover hers, and then clasp it, dragging it from his head until he could press the heel of her palm against his mouth. Gradually unfolding until he's just sitting, trying to convince himself that it's for the sake of this family, too, that he'll become a god worthy of the perfect world he's dreamed of, worthy of the people he would make it for.]
I'm sorry. [His murmur comes from behind Maka's hand, now.] I shouldn't have raised my voice at you.
[Kid's not going to lie and claim he's alright, either.]
