Who: Trunks and anyone
Where: Beach, up on the island, opposite side from the village.
When: Early morning
Style: Action/I don't really care
Status: Open!
[Trunks' evening hadn't been very restful. After Gohan's arrival--and the anger he'd felt--he'd retreated to the island. With the offer of his house for Gohan to use, he hadn't been able to go there to be alone.
His jacket was still damp from dew, he'd slept out underneath the stars for the first time he could remember in quite a while. It hadn't been restful sleep, he'd woken up stiff and sore both in mind and body.
Now with the sun climbing higher in the sky, he was moving up and down the beach, going through exercises with and without his sword. It was calming, familiar--even if he seemed to do it a lot lately.]

He was used to training alone, but doing so with someone else would definitely be helpful, and he had talked to him about it before.]
Sure.

Just swords for now? You look like you're working through something. [He couldn't help but recognize that look.]
I just had a terrible hilarious idea
I just had a bit of a surprise last night.
[He smiles slightly, shaking his head.]
But yeah, that sounds good.
oh really? do tell xD
[He reaches up and unsheathes his twin swords, the motion fluid and familiar as he brings each one down to his side. It's an open, flexible stance. He gives Trunks a nod.] Ready when you are.
/takes it over to Plurk
Trunks' stance isn't nearly as polished, he's mostly self-taught with the sword and it probably shows as he charges, consciously keeping his strength and speed in check to...mostly human levels anyway.]

Although firebenders are considered the aggressive, powerhouse kind of fighters of the four types, Zuko is notably still more oriented toward technique and finesse. It's a blunt kind of finesse, but all the same. He's ready the instant Trunks comes at him, sliding to the side and keeping one blade in a defensive position as he snaps in to attack with the other.]
no subject
Trunks is definitely an aggressive fighter--his only technique with the sword is 'swing at things' and 'block other things'. He's never sparred with someone who was using weapons before, much less two of them, and it's a challenge he wasn't expecting on top of the concentration needed to keep his strength under control so he didn't hurt Zuko accidentally.
That doesn't mean he wasn't up to trying. And it rather effectively drove everything else out of his head, simply because he didn't have the time to think about anything else except his next move--swinging his sword vertically, parallel to his body, to defend against that second blade.]
no subject
There's a ringing clang as the blades hit and lock together, effectively blocked, and then his other sword came around again to follow up in a horizontal slice. Zuko was always someone to push an advantage to the edge.]
IGNORE THE BLOND
Fighting against two blades is a lot different than fighting against someone unarmed, while he may be able to deal with someone punching and kicking at him admirably enough, this is new territory. Something was bound to happen.
Trunks frowns, concentration broken as Zuko's sword smacks right into him. No, he doesn't quite parse that it's a sharp sword, and he should therefore probably be bleeding. Which...he's not.
Yay for having really tough skin.]
IGNORING o7
He stops short, automatically taking a step back and dropping his stance for a moment as he stares.] I thought you would dodge that! [he says loudly in protest.] It didn't even scrape you.
[And he knows how sharp it is.]
Going Super Saiyan in a friendly fight would be so unfair. XD
He has the grace to look sheepish though.]
...I can take a bit of a beating.
[And he's modest too!]
it would be cruel and unusual xD
[Augh, but if Trunks doesn't want to tell him why, Zuko doesn't have reason to push. He tries to respect peoples' privacy when he can, because he wants that for himself. And he isn't upset enough to barge through that right now.]
Anyway, that was pathetic. I can't believe you can be this good and not know how to avoid a hit. [He raises one of them to level it straight at Trunks.] Looks like I am going to teach you something.
lol. Poor Zuko.
I could have avoided it. Swing at me again if you want to see for yourself.
no subject
I told you you could fly, so go ahead. [Zuko's probably getting in over his head, but that's never really mattered to him. This guy is pretty friendly, and he's sure he won't end up seriously hurt out of this, so as far as he's concerned it's time to up the stakes a little.
He doesn't stand around anymore, instead bolting forward with both swords poised to attack.]
no subject
Trunks doesn't really want to leave the ground, though. It's already an unfair matchup with him working in groundbound dimensions, if he doesn't limit himself.
Prepare to be frustrated though, Zuko, because he's making good on that statement and dodging everything you throw at him, biding his time--waiting for an opening, or to determine a pattern to Zuko's movements. He's not trying to overwhelm Zuko with sheer force--although he could.
Finally he starts swinging back, mostly defending. But he's upped his speed--definitely more than that first round.]
no subject
Mostly he's annoyed because he wants to kick some fire at him and can't; their agreement not to is hamstringing him from his best weapon against a flying opponent. But he's also a little satisfied with himself, for pushing his limits and for being so obviously successful at getting Trunks to stop thinking about whatever it was he didn't want to be thinking about.
Eventually Zuko takes several swift steps back into a retreat, holding a defensive position and breathing hard. He glares up at him.] You are unreal, you know that? Am I accomplishing anything here?!
no subject
I've never fought against someone using a sword before. Much less two. It's harder to keep up with than I thought.
[He doesn't know if they're done or not--Zuko's breathing hard, but Trunks is barely winded. That's probably going to be even more frustrating.]
no subject
You don't need to explain, but... fighting you is going to be ridiculous. [It doesn't look like that puts him off any, though.] If you're flying, can I at least use firebending?
no subject
After we're done, if you're still curious, I'll explain.
[As for the firebending...Trunks really doesn't see why not.]
Sure, I'd like to see it anyway.
no subject
It doesn't matter to me. Do whatever you want. [He's honest about that much, at least. There's so much weird going on in his life right now that one more unexplained thing hardly makes a difference.
He shifts, readjusting his stance at the declaration.] Alright, but if you get burned, don't complain to me about it. You asked for it.
no subject
Trunks nods, shifting his own stance. Considering all the explosions he's been at the center, or near to, he's not all that concerned about some fire. Even if he does get burned, he wouldn't complain about it.
His foot digs into the ground as he launches forward, flying just above the sand and spraying it pretty much everywhere with the force of his passing. Still not moving at his top speed, but it's probably still enough to surprise. The force at which he swings his sword is definitely enough to, but he's got enough control to be able to stop his swing if Zuko doesn't block it.]
no subject
That's enough like the way Azula usually fights that Zuko dodges instead of blocking, swiftly pushing off from the ground and hopping to the side. He immediately shifts his weight to the left and throws his right leg forward in a snap kick, but it's too far away to connect, and it's not meant to-- a shot of fire bursts forward toward Trunks.
He's trying to keep the space between them for as long as he can. Zuko has absolutely no problem using every advantage he has, and since Trunks isn't using ki blasts (yet), fighting at a distance will keep him on the defensive.]
no subject
There's a burst of light and wind as Trunks calls up his aura just long enough to avoid getting seriously burned, because he's going straight through the fire burst. He comes out a little singed and smoking on the other side, but any damage he took was superficial.
Frustrated yet, Zuko?
Trunks tries to close the distance between them, feinting left before quickly changing direction--maybe fast enough to flicker out of sight, for only an instant--and coming at him from the right.]
no subject
Zuko is not nearly quick enough to keep the distance when Trunks is going that fast, and turns to cross his swords together in front of him in defense.]
You fight like my sister, [he complains out loud, even as he goes on the offensive again with another kick. That was another trick of Azula's, coming straight at him through fire.]
no subject
Is that supposed to be a compliment or an insult?
[Either way he's laughing. The blast of fire is close, he leaps into the air to avoid it, flipping over Zuko's head before coming back down in a crouch, lashing out to try and sweep Zuko's legs out from under him.]
