[It had been quite some time since Sola had been outside.

He'd spent the past week puttering around Signless and Psiioniic's place, first refusing to come out of the room they'd let him use, then slowly working up to joining them on the couch for tv or at the table for meals when he was feeling a little more able to be social. He hadn't said much, merely grew more bold as far as seeking out contact went, content to ensconce himself between the two trolls and ask the occasional question concerning whatever was being watched, staying away from any mention of anything uncomfortable.

So it's far from the norm when Sola comes up to Signless out of the blue one morning and asked this:]

Is... it alright if I stay here for good?

[He nods, following Signless without a second thought (Ion, that's bad, you shouldn't follow strangers - especially not ones with pointy teeth! you're lucky it's Signless).]

[Come on, now, Signless might have pointy teeth, but he's about the least intimidating person in the bubble!]

[He's quiet, though, on the walk back to the hive, lost in thought. Once there, though, he guides Ion in, calling from the door.]

Sola? You have a visitor!

[Sola hears Signless come in from across the apartment; Hylian hearing is nifty like that.]

Did you find my bottle? I forgot to tell you it was on the nig-

[As the replica rounds the corner into the front room, he freezes as he sees Ion. That wasn't what he expected.]

[Ion marches right up to Sola with his jaw set and...]

[...promptly hugs him around the waist.]

I missed you.

[Awwwww, so cute! Signless is just going to fade into the background. If the kids need him, he's there. If they don't, he'll be in the living room with Psii, watching Judge Judy or some equally terrible daytime tv show.]

[ There is absolutely nothing wrong with Judge Judy. It gives him something to listen to while he fiddles with his SFC.

And Signless joining him gives him a comfy mutant-warm pillow to lean up against while he does so. ]

[Sola turns a nice shade of pink at Ion's hug, arms stuck at his sides.]

U-umm... you're not mad?

Why would I be angry with you, Sola?

[He has to hide his face in the other boy's tunic, not wanting Sola to see him looking so sad.]

I'm just glad that you're back...

'cause... I didn't tell you...

[The Hylian worms his arms out of the hug in order to put them around Ion in turn.]

I didn't want you to be mad 'cause I promised and then I did it anyway a-any.. and I'm really sorry...

[Sola hides his face in Ion's hair, trying very hard not to cry. He's honestly pretty tired of crying at this point but for some reason he can't seem to help it.

Stupid feelings.]

[Ion's had a little while to work out why Sola wouldn't tell him, and that's the conclusion he's come to. It doesn't surprise him to hear it. He rubs at Sola's back.]

It's not your fault. You were... you were upset. I should have noticed that you were that upset. I'm just relieved that this happened here, in Vatheon, that you didn't disappear forever...

I guess I am too.

[He takes a deep breath, calming himself. It's easier here, knowing Signless and Psiioniic are just in the other room. Amazing what a difference a few floors can make.]

At least Izaya is happy now, right?

[Even if I can't see him.]

I think he is.

[Ion looks up at him, trying to keep his expression one that's no deeper than curiosity.]

Do you not want to see him?

I can't.

[Sola draws away at that. There had been several talks on the reasons why Izaya wasn't a good influence. Sola still didn't fully understand it, but if Signless was right Izaya hadn't done what he'd done out of a want to help, but instead for a more destructive purpose. Sola still maintains that Izaya wouldn't have done it if he didn't think it would work, and it had for one of them, but maybe... they both needed help. Maybe Izaya didn't know it was wrong either. Even so, Sola is uncomfortable thinking fondly of someone who prompted him to kill himself, much less seeing him.

Of course, in his stubborn childish way, he can't admit any of it as his own hesitance.]

Signless and Zelda were really mad when I told them what he did. I don't want anyone to fight.

...I see.

[Ion lets out a breath.]

I don't think that there is a reason to be angry with him. After all, he did the same thing you did - he must be hurting. But... I don't want anyone to fight, either.

[He puts on a smile for Sola, patting his shoulders.]

I'll watch after him. And you, as well.

I don't know if Signless told you, though, but... I'm staying here. Won't that make it hard?

I have time to visit both places, don't I? Besides, this is not that far.

[...though Ion is going to miss being able to crawl into Sola's bed if he gets lonely.]

[Sola's ears perk up and he smiles at Ion.]

Maybe Signless will let you move in here too! It's great! Psii makes things fly around sometimes and we watch weird shows about humans doing weird things!

[Ion hesitates, then shakes his head.]

I can't leave Izaya and Laharl. That doesn't mean that I can't stay the night sometimes, but I won't move out entirely.

[He doesn't bring up the word "abandon", but he's thinking it.]

Oh...

[Aww, Ion, just look how droopy his ears are.

Though he perks back up a little after a moment.]

I guess that's good that you'll be there for them. I don't know about Laharl, but Izaya really needs it. Just.. don't let him tell you to do anything, okay?

[Ion pokes at his ears to try and get them to point back upwards. Smile, Sola!]

I won't. Why do you say that, though? Did he tell you to do it?

[At Ion's hands on his ears, Sola lets out a very loud yelp and backs up, turning bright red and clapping his hands over them.]

U-u-umm. Y-yeah, kinda..

I'm sorry, I forgot!

[Right, Sola's ears are sensitive. He shouldn't touch them.]

What did he say...?

He said that if we died that Zelda and Shizuo would realize they loved us.

[Sola looks down a bit with a small smile on his face.]

It worked for Shizuo, so he wasn't wrong, but..

[The smile fades.]

I was really scared. I didn't know if I would come back, and then I did but Zelda...

[He shakes his head, letting that just sit.]

I don't want to talk about it.

[The fact that Izaya would manipulate people's emotions like that is distressing, but not enough to make Ion angry with him. Wanting to be loved - it's not an evil thing, even if the action taken to gain that love is wrong.]

We don't have to talk about it, then.

[He holds out the small bag with Sola's things finally.]

I brought your things for you. Don't worry, I didn't forget anything.
