Dualscar was pretty disoriented as he arrived in the plaza. He fell to his knees, choking on his gasps, his gills opening with a popping sound and his fins stiff with terror as he scrabbled at his own, unmarked throat.

The last thing he remembered was getting his throat ripped out by the Grand Highblood's teeth. It took a few moments for his body to realize that he actually could breathe, and that he wasn't dying horribly.

"Just curious. It seems like a good idea, and also something you have some experience in."

"That's the idea." He settles back. "I don't suppose you'll consider joinin up, after all."

"I'm not much of a combat specialist, I'm afraid. I can defend myself when I have to, but I prefer nonviolence."

"You wwon't evven fight to protect your home and the ones you lovve?" Dualscar asks pointedly, searching Signless' face.

Signless puts down his teacup, and looks Dualscar full in the face.

"I would give my life for the ones I love. I've done it before, and I'd do it again."

"So I thought," Dualscar returns, lip lifting in a smirk.

"You think love is a weakness." Signless says it as a statement, not a question.

[devwocean]

Dualscar freezes at the direct question, his fins flattening a little. "Lovve isn't a wweakness, but it creates and revveals wweaknesses," he says carefully. "I'vve got nothin' against a torrid and passionate lovve affair."

"I'm afraid we're going to have to disagree there, Dualscar." Signless smiles disarmingly. "You see, while I admit that love does sometimes expose weaknesses, it more than makes up for it in the strength it grants in their place."

"It exposes wweaknesses to the other one," Dualscar growls, sitting back and scowling down at the coffee table. "Each a you are expected to be wweak and vvulnerable to one another. I don't do that."

"Why not? If it's with someone you care about and trust, letting them know your weaknesses and help you through them only makes you stronger."

[devwocean]

"Maybe that's true, but I'vve nevver met anyone like that."

[withoutasign]

"Well, don't close yourself off to the experience. You might enjoy it, should you get the opportunity."

[devwocean]

He shrugs. "I doubt it's wworth the risk."

[withoutasign]

"You'd be surprised."

[devwocean]

"Wwe'll nevver knoww."

[withoutasign]

"I guess not."

His tea finished, Signless stands up. "I suppose I'll head back now, give you time to get yourself situated."

He inclines his head, smiling faintly. "I'll see you again soon, then."

"Goodbye, Dualscar. If you need anything, I'm right down the hall."

And with that, Signless lets himself out.
