[Things were probably peaceful, as peaceful as they can be in Vatheon, until there was a sudden splash from the fountain where a very soaked man in a bathrobe and an equally drenched and miserable cat now sat.

The cat swam over to the edge of the fountain and hopped out onto the side before shaking herself and proceeding to try and make her fur behave.

Johnny, however, was still. It was like a tidal wave had overrun his brain as thoughts and feelings and memories came rushing back. The plan to escape, his 'love letters' to Charley, the message hidden in the Sudoku puzzles...it all seemed dull and distant. The replicas...he had clones wandering around in the world and he'd never known. Those poor bastards who got stuck with him as an original.

And there was Mailer. That probably pissed him off the most: knowing that the fact he'd let himself be used by that man just to get his guard down was now pointless...]

I need a shower...

[He finally looked up, debated about getting out, decided against it, and moved to the edge of the fountain where he folded his arms and laid his head down on them. If he got out now, he'd just drip everywhere and the heavy robe would make things miserable.]

As soon as you're dry, Minea, will you go get me a towel. I'm afraid I can't move till then. I suspect public indecency would be frowned upon if I tried to change.

[The vampire watched his cat, his thoughts still going over everything and sorting things into place. He was tired. He'd never felt so tired...of everything. Of life. Everything always went wrong. He was always loosing things or left helpless as they were stolen from him. He was always lying...and he was tired.

But that wasn't the case here...was it? No...not anymore. Things were different. He wanted to live..and he wanted to tell the truth...most of the time. Here there were no skeevy priests, no monsters, nothing actively trying to destroy him and those he loved.

He sighed.]

When did everything change, hmm? Why didn't I notice? Ah well. Something to fret over later.

[Fai's expression turns a touch more serious though as he watches Johnny very closely.]

How was your return home?

[His expression falters a bit, but his smile doesn't leave.]

I've had worse.

You should have seen me the last time I left and came back~ I was all bloody and torn up on the inside, that was a bad day.

[Fai gives Johnny a little squeeze. He saw that frown so he knows what that means. He won't push the subject though.]

Let's go home so you can be rested enough to spoil me later~

[He kissed Fai's forehead in thanks before taking the other vampire's hand.]

Sounds like a plan to me~

I think I could sleep for a week, but I'll limit it so I can spoil you appropriately~

You better~ I don't want to wait that long.

[Fai starts to pull Johnny towards their home.]

Do you need anything before we go?

[Johnny follows willingly and just shakes his head at the question.]

No...luckily I just ate, everything else can wait a little.

Mmm....how's your brother been? He's still okay, yeah?

He's doing well. He might have been a little disappointed when I postponed the house hunting..[Fai just hadn't felt up to it.]

But I'm sure he'll be happy to see you're home.

Mmm~ I'll be happy to see him~

Maybe I should make a cake for the both of you~

[He's silent a moment and then his hand tightens a bit around Fai's]

I am sorry I left...I thought I wouldn't anymore.

I would never turn down a cake~

[Fai's smile brightens at the mention of cake but then becomes more somber as he looks up at Johnny.]

It isn't exactly something we can control..you don't have to apologize.

I know but I...

[He sighed. Fai knew a lot...and it wasn't like he could lie to the other vampire.]

I was dead. I died the last time I went home...and I guess I thought, maybe, that would mean I could stay here. I mean, what does a dead guy have to go back for?

[He smiles a bit and keeps his tone light.]

Buut it turns out I'm not. Not anymore. I don't fully understand it, but...I don't want to go back.

It's good that you aren't dead..I know sometimes it might not seem that way. I don't know that any of us are allowed to stay here forever...alive or dead..so you just have to enjoy it while you are. That's all we can do.

[Fais smile turns playful again.] but if you leave and come back again, I might not forgive you. My heart can't handle being toyed with in such a way~

[He smiled, grateful for the distraction, and hummed]

Ahh~ Well, then, I suppose I ought to be on my best behavior~~

I certainly don't want to disappoint, least of all you, my dearest Fai~

Good. You better not disappoint me! Or I will quit and move out as punishment.

[Fai pulled him inside the apartment once they finally reached it.]
