Ran was gone.

And he couldn't follow.  He was still trapped here, in a bubble under the ocean where nothing made any sense.  Protected from the ocean by a device that seemed to defy the laws of physics.  Trapped here with only an annoying rival of a thief for company.

What should he do now?

For once the detective didn't have an answer.

And so he had left the house early and found an isolated corner of the park.  He had always done his best thinking while kicking around a soccerball.  And today he had a lot of thinking to do.   And other things to deliberately not think about.

Then explain. I know you have some reason for this.

Well, I decided that I'd lure out Oyaji's killers and a few months later it worked-I got a weird phone call from a pay phone telling me to stand down- the caller assumed I was my Dad, and so needless to say I didn't back down and continued on as normal.

The next night I met him face to face. The guy that-that killed Oyaji is known as Snake and he's working for some super secret organization that seems to be after immortality if their choice in gems is anything to go by.

[Conan opens his mouth to address the sheer idiocy and danger of that particular plan. Someone as smart as Kaito couldn't think of anything better? But the end of that statement changes that. Instead he demands an answer sharply.]

That Organization. What do they wear? How many agents have you met?

A-ah? I've seen quite a few of them. They stalk around the quieter heists because they know I know they're there. I've only ever caught Sanke's name though-I've never seen him in a good light-so his trench coat is either a dark gray or straight up black.

[Of course it wouldn't be that simple. But the similarities were too suspicious to ignore. And Kid had actually been attempting to attract their attention?]

You said one of them had mentioned their goals. What were his exact words?

They're after gem that grants immortality. It's part of a legend so I'm not sure how factual the legend is but this it what I heard-

Pandora is a gem within a gem that glows red under moonlight, when Volley's comet passes then it'll cry tears and make the drinker immortal.

[Immortality. And wasn't that far too familiar for his comfort. Not the story itself. That was obviously a legend. But what were the odds that there could be two Organizations seeking out immortality?]

Have any of them ever mentioned anything else?

[ Kaito stops to think about it for a minute. ]

...They mentioned a boss but didn't say anything about him aside from the fact he was looking for Pandora. Unfortunately, I don't know anything more about them. That's the trouble with secret organizations, they tend to be, you know, secret.

Ah-anyway, What I really wanted to ask was this: Do you want to stay with me an' Aoko? She'd never forgive me if she found out you on your own-somehow, to her, everything's my fault. Anyway, I'll try not to be much of a pain.

...When we get home I will be investigating that group. [Expect him at every heist from now on.]

How kind of you. [Conan takes refuge in sarcasm as he tries to figure out if there was any underlying motive in this offer.]Is it really possible for you not to be a pain?

Oi. I didn't tell you this so you could intrude on my heists. You'd better stay out of my way.

[ He just kind of shrugs at that question. ]

I don't know, that's why I said I'd try to be not much of a pain. Besides, I'll probably be too busy pestering Aoko.

Unlikely. [His tone is dismissive.] Tell me, how exactly did you intend to get this Organization arrested?

[He sighs.]

I'll put up with it. [As annoying as this arrangement might be, he would feel better being able to keep an eye on this guy's activities.]

I plan to find Pandora and destroy it. If they keep showing up at heists, eventually, Nakamori-keibu will notice.

[ He raises an eyebrow at that response. Well.. it's not like Kudo would ever just 'agree' to this kind of arrangement. ]

As a word of caution- Aoko is one of those types of people that are always right. So keep that in mind.

[....Conan is judging your plan, Kaito.]

Have you considered making contacts with other departments? And have yo0u collected any evidence against this group?

[He smirks.]

Ah, what a person for you to be friends with.

Of course I don't have evidence! If I did, do you think I'd keep to myself when they've already proved their not above murdering someone? You think I want what happened to my dad to happen to some other kid's dad!?

[ He catches himself raising his voice and just coughs. ]

...Besides... If something were to happen to The Kaitou Kid, I'm sure a certain detective wouldn't rest until he found the truth.

[Conan's voice suddenly becomes very controlled. He was not happy about this revelation.]

Do you mean to say that you intended for me to find out this after your death? When it would be far too late for me to do anything but find justice for the both of you?

It's not in my plans to die detective. It was one of those-'if it happens' kinda thing.

I'm involving myself now. [His tone is blunt and still slightly outraged.]

What? No. They're my heists. No one is supposed to get hurt at my heists.

My heist. My Responsibility. I don't stick my nose in your business.

[...Was he serious? Conan could well remember all the times this guy had decided to involve himself.]

[ Those times don't count. They were for his benefit. Selfless act of kindness, yes. ]

....Fine. But don't interfere with my heists or I'll make your life difficult.
