[There aren't very many good places in Vatheon to get away from everyone. Not that Lloyd is trying to avoid anyone, but it's usually a good idea to go someplace out of the way when training with new mana techniques - and that's exactly what he's doing today. He'd found a good stretch of beach that was, for the moment, unoccupied - probably because of the chill in the morning air discouraging casual beachgoers. There might be more people in the afternoon, but he'd no doubt have called it quits long before then.

So, while he still has the beach to himself, time to get to work! Drawing both his swords, the teen in red runs through a basic warm-up before settling into a familiar routine. Without calling on his own inner mana, he goes through the motions of the techs he thinks are closest to what he's trying to achieve. Demon Fang, Tempest, Beast, they all involve molding mana around his blades. If he can just keep it there, instead of unleashing it...

Anyone passing by this particular stretch of beach will either see a teenage swordsman hard at work training himself - or they'll pass by just in time to get blasted by mana and sand from one of Lloyd's failed technique attempts.]

[It won't be more than a minute before Lloyd notices his teacher standing off to the side. He drops out of his stance, straightening up, and wipes the sweat from his brow. Then he smiles and lifts a hand, still holding a sword.]

Hey, Professor! What're you doing here?

[grandhealer]

[ Raine nods in acknowledgment before taking a few steps over to her student. ]

Hello Lloyd. I'm currently taking a walk on the beach while reading a few notes I have taken. And you are here practicing your sword techniques?

[redcladidealist]

Yeah!

[Lloyd grins. He likes when she takes an interest in things he likes, and this is no exception.]

Someone told me there might be a way to use my mana to make my swords stronger. Well, he called it ki, but I figure it's the same thing. I'm trying to make a new technique to do that.

[grandhealer]

[ And she likes it when Lloyd can actually provide her information. It makes him not all that hopeless! ]

Interesting. Can you tell me more about ki and why you thought that he was the same thing as mana?

[redcladidealist]

A guy named Gohan called it "life energy." Didn't Genis say mana was more important to life than water? That everything was made from it? And another guy, Vegeta, actually used it when we were sparring. The stuff he did looked a lot like some of your magic, only he didn't have a mana circle when he did it.

[grandhealer]

[ Raine nods her head in response to Lloyd's question. ]

Interesting. So their world's energy is much like our energy back home. However, there are some distinct difference such as no energy circle when performing magic. So have you been able to work your mana the same way as their ki yet?

[redcladidealist]

I'm not sure he was using his ki like magic. I think he was using it more like one of my techniques, just without any weapons. I haven't figured out how to do it myself yet, but I think maybe I could. Vegeta thinks I can, too. He's going to help train me, just as soon as I figure out how to keep my swords from breaking.

[Yup, he's worried about his swords breaking in a spar with Vegeta. That... probably doesn't bode well for what he's getting himself into.]

[grandhealer]

I see. If you learn more about ki I would love to learn more about it. [ Also a chance for you to learn some more things Lloyd. AND SPEAKING OF THINGS ] It's good that you've been focusing on your training and swordmanship. However, what about your other studies?

[redcladidealist]

[A look that can be described as nothing short of a deer in headlights flashes across Lloyd's face.]

O-other studies? Um, what do you mean?

[grandhealer]

[ ... Sigh. Lloyd. ]

Your academic studies. Just because you are in a different world from our own it does not mean you can simply forget about them.

[redcladidealist]

I didn't forget! I just... uh... I didn't bring any of my homework here! Or my text books! Yeah!

[Hey, it's not a lie!]

[grandhealer]

There are plenty of books that can be used to textbooks here. But no matter. I happen to remember what you have last learned so we may continue from there.

[ And guess what some of the papers she has with her are! ]

[Lloyd gives those papers a look of pure dismay.]

Aw man, you're gonna make me study here? But what if we go home and I don't remember anything?

[grandhealer]

[ Aw Lloyd you don't even know what's on them yet! Spoilers: It's math. ]

Of course. What happens when you arrive back home does not matter. You are currently here in Vatheon and need to continue your studies. If you happen to not remember anything upon returning back home then you will simply have to relearn the material.

[Spirits... being crushed...]

But if I already learned it, I shouldn't have to learn it again! Come on, Professor! Give me a break!

[Whine whine whine. Not that he expects it to do any good.]

[grandhealer]

No, you shouldn't. However, if you forget then you'll forget that you have learned it in the first place. How long have you been here in Vatheon?

[ Nope. It's not. You'll be getting the homework and there is nothing you can do about it! ]

[Lloyd winces. He already knows how well this answer is going to go over.]

Since... January.

[Five months. Five months without studying.]

[grandhealer]

[ A-yup. You probably already know what's coming Lloyd. ]

That is more than enough time for a break. It's time for you to begin studying again. Perhaps even review a few things that you more than likely have forgotten.

[ Luckily she also a few pages of review in her notebook as well. SHE'S ALL PREPARED. ]

[SHE KNOWS HER STUDENT TOO WELL.

The teen lets out a small groan of misery.]

How do you even know I've forgotten anything?

[grandhealer]

[ OF COURSE. You've been her student for years! ]

I'm certain that you have. Do you even remember the last thing you have learned?

[redcladidealist]

Er... wasn't it about what things basilisks are weak against. It was earth, right?

[grandhealer]

[ ... Siiiiigh. ]

You are partially correct. We were last talking about basilisks. However, basilisks are strong against earth.

[redcladidealist]

Oh. Oh, right! That's what I meant! I meant basilisks are strong against earth! Because, uh, because they can petrify you, right? If they can turn someone to stone, then it's gotta be a strength.

[See, Professor? He's not completely fail. He just... needed a reminder.]

[grandhealer]

[ Oh Lloyd. Then a review would be a perfect reminder! ]

Correct. Now can you name me one other monster that can petrify you?

[redcladidealist]

[Oh, hey, he's got this one! Funny how it's easy to remember a monster when it turns one of your friends into stone.]
