[Fox was still unsure as to how exactly he got roped into this. Gilbert wasn't even being that insistent about it. Excitable, maybe. Perhaps he just had a longing for these kinds of things. His life had been pretty quiet in this city, and when it came down to it that was unusual. Nice, sometimes, but if he was being honest with himself, there was a lot that he was missing.

Since the hadn't exactly specified a meeting point, he just waited for the human to show up by the coral.]

Yeah. I mean, unless there's some freaky machine hidden underneath that coral shell, I'm guessing there be some magic at work here... [Gilbert walks up close to the coral, staring at it intently] Sadly, magic's not my, er, forte. Know anyone who knows about it?

I'm not going to say magic, exactly. Just that we might be coming at this too...literally?

[Or maybe he did mean magic. Who could know.]

Maybe it just doesn't work like we would expect it to.

What, like, bizarro science? I guess... [the longer Gilbert stares at the coral, the more mysterious it seems. Ah, how were they going to solve this puzzle?!]

I guess the main thing is we've gotta find out how the dream function's managing to transmit to everyone's blackberry whatever thingy. It has to use some sort of radio wave, or something, and it has to be transmitted by something for that to work. [Gilbert starts to pace] So. First question. How are the dreams being transmitted? Is it purely science? Or is it magic? Or a mix of the two? Bizarro science? Ahh, this is making my head hurt...

Well, what about the island? I heard that there's something different about it all of a sudden. Maybe that's a correlation?

Eh? It's different? [Gilbert hadn't noticed. He was sort of oblivious like that at times]

I haven't taken the time to check it out for myself, but that's what the word is.

Hmm...well maybe we should check out the differences first. Maybe it'll give us clues on what this is. If it's nothing, then we can come back here and try to figure out how to mess with the network.

[Fox nods]

I don't see how staying right here is going to get us anywhere. Not right now, at least.

Yeah. Okay! We have our first clue! This is sort of exciting - time to investigate the island's mysterious differences!

[The elevator seems normal enough. Maybe his...partner's enthusiasm was starting to get to him, because Fox had to admit that this was sort of exciting. Even if other parts of him were screaming about what a bad idea this all probably was.

He clicks open the door.]

Thanks! You know, this'll be my first time up on the island [Gilbert's been too busy exploring the shops and stuff to bother with it. Best to save the good stuff for last!]

Really? Well I guess you won't have much to compare it to, then.

[Fox adjusts the control, closing the door and beginning the machine's ascent]

Yup. So you'll be super useful in this part of the investigation, since I'm guessing you have been up here.

More than me, so still useful. What's this island like, anyway?

Well, it's a tropical island. There's some kind of village, but it's abandoned. And there's a lighthouse, but I've never seen that up close.

Ooh, a lighthouse? That sounds fun to explore. But, tropical... [Gilbert and tropical weather did not mix. His skin was very susceptible to sunburn]

The village is a little weird, but the island is a nice place otherwise. And it's a break from the city.

Like a holiday island away from our nice little prison cell, huh? [chuckles]

No, more like a yard.

[The elevator arrives at the top, and the doors open onto a scene that is...not quite an island paradise.]

Uh...

...hm. [Gilbert slowly turns to look at Fox] So, island, huh?

I guess. The rumors were right? Not much to confirm there...

Nah, this looks interesting. I mean, the dreams started happening when the island turned into...weirdoville, so maybe if we sniff around here, we'll find a clue about it all!

This place looks huge.

[He gestures to the buildings, visible beyond the village.]

I could take us weeks to find what we're looking for.

Probably, but [Gilbert smirks] that looks like a city over there. And in cities, there're communication towers, right? That give off signals and radio waves...so how weird is it, that the dream function of the blackberry crops up when a city appears on the same day? I say we just look for some communication towers, poke about a bit, and call it a day. Wouldn't hurt to look, right?
