The setting didn't seem unfamiliar at first: he was in some kind of alley and the sky was dark. He was sure he'd just been in a place like that. Maybe that was why, at first, he didn't realize the crucial change.

But he had trouble remembering what he'd been doing, moments ago. Why was he wet? His coat was sopping and heavy and--

And Sora didn't wear a black coat.

Roxas froze, forgetting to wonder about the circumstances for the moment, and stared down at his black-gloved hands. Sora wasn't with him; many of the memories were there, but Sora's presence, that person he'd felt himself slipping back into, was gone. He was Roxas again. Just Roxas.

If he didn't know any better, he'd say he felt a sudden surge of joy at that realization. Of course it wasn't real. Still, a tiny smile spread across his face as he stepped out into the plaza, baffled, slightly suspicious, but still glad.

"What the heck is this place...?"

[Roxas looks down, noticing the attention... and then the fact that this dog is soaking wet. This little guy isn't a native either? But-]

H-hey...! You can't eat that.

[sonlight]

Rrr? [No? But the material looks so chewy... Well, if you're sure, bro.

He lifts a paw and bats at the zipper instead, ears perking up at the clinking sound that follows.]

It's- not really a toy either, you know.

[He bends down and stretches out a gloved hand towards the pup. That's what you do with animals, right?]

[What's the point of having such a chewy, clinky coat if you can't do anything fun with it? :(

He hesitates at that hand, sensing Roxas' unsureness, then grins places his own paw in it. Handshake!]

[That is... not exactly what he expected. He gives the paw a tentative shake.]

...you here on your own, too?

Arf! [A quick nod. You looked about as lost (and wet) as he feels right now, so he figured, hey! A kindred spirit!

Also he wanted to play with your coat.]

[The dog seems to understand him. Maybe that's normal for some dogs? This one does look a little unusual.]

I'm- gonna have a look around. If you wanna stick together.

[He's pretty happy to be invited along, if the way he's barking happily as he runs circles around you is any indication.

Let's go, partner!]

J-jeez.

[Roxas straightens, shaking his head with a bit of a smile.]

Well, come on.

[sonlight]

[He runs ahead a bit, tail wagging so hard it's flinging excess bits of water around.

Do you want to explore this way, first? Smells like there might be people... but more importantly, he can also smell food!]

[Good thing Roxas is already wet, so the splashing doesn't really bother him. He's still smiling as he walks after the dog. This little guy is so excited... Kind of reminds him of someone.]

Taking the lead, huh?

[He wuffles at this, circling around to nudge Roxas from behind. You can lead if you want to, bro!]

Hey, I didn't say I minded.

[But he'll go on ahead if that's what you want. Towards some food stalls, apparently.]

[Some food stalls? Some? Boy, this is the goddamn Marketplace, "some food stalls" is only the beginning! There's shops and set-ups for just about anything you could think of, including a curious one that only offers fresh towels? What's up with that.

Anyway, hope you like lots of people. :D]

[Lots of people? No, not so much. "Some" food stalls is probably about as far as Roxas is going. In the Organization they tended to avoid interacting with whole people when they could.

Not half so eager, Roxas spots the place with the towels and heads there first.]

Let's- dry off a little.

[Completely missing the sudden discomfort, Chibi nods in agreement and follows along. The interior is graciously lacking in the hustle and bustle of outside, containing only piles upon piles of folded towels and a sign hanging from the ceiling that says "Help Yourself! (You can do at least this much on your own, right? ♥ )" A bit condescending, but otherwise helpful.

Chibi doesn't seem to pay the sign any mind, instead going over to the nearest tower of towels and promptly trying to tug one out- from somewhere near the bottom. Tower domino effect taking place in three, two, one...]

well your inbox is mistaken

[That... is a lot of towels. Roxas is about to take one for himself when he notices the puppy tugging at the bottom of a pile.]

Hey, you're gonna--

[Roxas moves to stop him, but too late. The towering piles topple over, effectively burying the two of them in towels.]

[Quite the catastrophe, that. Dogtastrophe? Eh, his puns need some work.

Chibi is temporarily trapped, this lesson in cause-and-effect learned the hard way. Fortunately, he has the Celestial Brush handy! One Galestrom later he's free of the impeding cloths; they float casually out the door and bewilder passersby. Once he's able to move again, however, he notices something important is missing...]

Arf?! [Dude! Where'd you go? He immediately starts digging through the cottony mess he made, feeling around for anything human-shaped.]

[Roxas would have thought that, being smaller than him, the dog would have been buried deeper and had a harder time escaping. Apparently this is not the case, although he can't really tell for himself yet. Flailing, he tries to shove the towels off of him and at least succeeds in finding the surface with his hand.]

[There you are! Oh man he is so sorry and he's gonna get you out of there right away and :(

Now that he's found you and there isn't the risk of getting further buried, Chibi paints up another windy pattern. The breeze carts fair chunk of towels off, not enough to get Roxas completely unstuck... But you're exposed from the waist up, at least!]

[It's enough for Roxas to pick himself up and extricate himself from the towels, though he blinks at the dog in surprise.]

What... did you just do?

[Ah... caught him, did you? He looks sort of sheepish, but he'll demonstrate- a whip of the tail and a strong gust of wind harmlessly blows over a stack of towels to the right.]

[All right, definitely not a normal dog. He smiles a little.]

That's pretty neat.

[You really think so? You'd be surprised, but back home most everyone was pretty dismissive of this stuff!

Delighted as he is at the compliment, he's not sure he can show off any of the other brush strokes while they're inside this building. Feeling a little impatient, he tugs at one of the towels and looks up questioningly. Dry off now?]

Oh, right.

[Although flailing amidst a pile of towels probably helped some. But he bends down, picking up one of the towels to dry the pup off.]
